Zwischen The Cure, Jugendradio DT64 und den Anderen BandsOur Darkness erzählt die Geschichte von Wavern und Gruftis in den Achtzigern ? hinter der Mauer, in der DDR. Denn auch hinter den Eisernen Vorhang drang die Musik von The Cure, Anne Clark, Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division und vielen anderen. Ihr Markenzeichen: Melancholische Musik, ausladende Frisuren und schwarze Kleidung. Aus geschmuggelten Bravos und dem Jugendradio DT64 suchten sich Jugendliche in der DDR ab Mitte der Achtziger ihre Informationen zur Waver- und Grufti-Jugendkultur zusammen, bastelten sich in vielen Stunden ihre eigenen Interpretationen des Outfits und schufen sich eine eigene kulturelle Heimat. Auch die zahlreichen Anfeindungen durch Faschos und den DDR-Sicherheitsapparat konnten die Ausbreitung dieser Jugendkultur nicht stoppen. Turbulent und legendär war am 4. August 1990 das erste Konzert von The Cure in der Noch-DDR: ein Höhepunkt dieser Jugendkultur. Mit dem ersten von Gruftis organisierten Wave-Gotik-Treffen im Mai 1992 in Leipzig schließt sich der Kreis.
