"Fabulous CD....as if the selection of these classics isn't enough, you will be seduced by the styling these two talented women give to each. What one does with her voice the other does with the piano. You'll be forced to choose a new favorite each time you listen. All I can say is 'How can they really top this?' We're already looking forward to their next collaboration." Jim Perry Carroll and Matthews started working together a little more than a year ago, combined their varied backgrounds and compiled a jazz album with a fresh take on several standards and brought back some rarely-recorded extraordinary tunes. They were elated when renowned bassist Steve Gilmore, who learned his trade from the likes of Ray Brown agreed to play on the album along with a stellar group of musicians including Steve Ferry on drums, Victor Payano on saxophone and Don Johnson on trumpet. Sharon Carroll is a classically trained vocalist and theatre actress who started dabbling in jazz in her college days with gifted pianist Jeremy Beck from New York City's Rural Free Delivery Band (also available on CDBaby). She spent a number of years doing professional theatre, on-camera work, directing and teaching. Sharon is a graduate of Troy University, was a finalist in the Savannah Onstage vocal competition and she is a member of Actor's Equity Association. Using her three octave range she has performed roles such as Maria in The Sound of Music at the Springer Opera House, the State Theatre of Georgia, Kathie in the operetta, The Student Prince in South Florida's Golden Apple, and Luisa in The Fantasticks at Seaside Repertory Theatre under the direction of Kim Moore from the Sullivan Street cast. Other favorite roles are Catherine in Proof, Olivia in Twelfth Night and Babe in Crimes of the Heart. She now performs in the Florida Panhandle with Ms. Matthews and a host of talented regional musicians. She also sings with the Swing Set Big Band and the Swing Shift Jazz Band. Amanda Matthews is from Atlanta, Georgia where she was a frequent guest with the Jerry Lambert Trio at the Ritz Carlton, she performed at Callenwolde, Atlanta Symphony Showhouse, Fox Theater, and was the keyboardist for the Atlanta Braves Band. In 2001, she made her European debut, performing both classical and jazz concerts in Bad Aussee, Austria. She has a degree in piano performance from Georgia State University. She moved to Panama City, Florida in 2005 and is the music teacher at Northside Elementary School. She is active in the Gulf Jazz Society, performs at local venues, and teaches jazz improvisation at the summer piano camp at Gulf Coast Community College. She has two solo piano CD's, 'Classical Piano' and 'Illumination.' Sharon and Amanda recently appeared at the annual Jazz By The Bay Festival and were honored when asked to perform with acclaimed Atlanta trumpeter and vocalist, Joe Gransden.

The self-titled debut album from the band Octoberbabies is set to be released on October 5, 2010. Octoberbabies was formed in Sacramento, California, by singer/songwriter Keith LaMar in 2008. While a number of session musicians contributed to the album, LaMar is the band's sole songwriter and permanent member. Fans of power-pop bands with a penchant for catchy melodies, like Weezer, Franz Ferdinand, and The Lemonheads, should find Octoberbabies appealing. LaMar previously released two solo albums under the name Keith Pyle (his birth surname): ...and everything's a blur (2004) and Peace And Quiet (2005). Both of LaMar's previous albums enjoyed moderate success on college and indie rock radio. The latter garnered positive reviews in The Sacramento News & Review and Muse's Muse, and spawned three tracks that aired on Sacramento's 100.5 FM "The Zone" (KZZO) and 91.5 FM (KYDS). Both albums are available on iTunes, Amazon, and CDBaby.

This album has not yet been reviewed, but listeners of previous efforts (Prisoner of the Shadows and Old Vienna) have drawn comparisons to Bach, Elgar, and an obscure Russian composer I never heard of.....that isn't too meaningful, since I don't read music and have had very little formal training. There are reviews of the previously-mentioned CD's on CDBaby, which may be helpful in determining whether you want to take a chance on Anachronicity....I think you should. Scott Shumaker.

Things change, that's a factor of life. Sometimes they change for the better, sometimes for the worse, and sometimes for both things at once. There are fewer amateur musicians who can actually play the piano or some other instrument nowadays. There are fewer opportunities for live bands to get started, because most have been replaced by DJ's playing records. On the other hand, the dictatorship of the big record compamies has been broken. No longer can they set the standards, or determine the kind of music that will be made. No longer can an executive or A&R man simply refuse to listen, because he is overburdened, or because he thinks the music is not commercially viable. In the past there was no way anyone could produce his own music. It had to be done commercially. The coming of the cassette tape, and then the CD burner has ended that. Now anyone who has the determination and the talent, and can put out the necessary time and money. Can do it all himself, and large numbers are doing just that. This gives us an unprecedented opportunity to hear new music. It also poses a problem. With the table so full, how do we make a choice? Thankfully we have online marketing services such as CDBaby which make things possible. One can choose a genre, or a location, or some composer whose music you like and their search engine will give you a list of CD's to choose from. You can then listen to two minute clips of music from whicgever CD you choose. I should say here that CDBaby does not make judgements on the music. Anyone who sends them five copies of a CD, and their $35 fee is in. I should also say that from my experience, the quality of the music is high, pretty amazingly so. It seems that everyone wants to put thier best foot forward. Besides, the amount of effort that it takes discourages those who are not committed. The sheer volume of the selections is intimidating, CDBaby alone has nearly 30,000 CD's for you to choose from. Choosing a category, such as Rock, Jazz, Classical, Mood Music, New Age, Piano, Guitar, etc. Does cut things down to a more manageable extent, however. How much of this music will last, and how much will simply disappear is a question. Much depends on pure chance, and much depends on ordinary people's response to it. There is no one here to tell you what is 'good'. You will not have heard the music on the radio. It will not appear on Billboard's charts. You will, have to use your ears and make up your own mind. I will say this though, music which is strange to your ears needs to be listened to more than once. Your best bet is to listen to a lot of the music. Make a list of your favorites and listen to them again. You might even buy a few records that you liked particularly well. A New Day has dawned for music, In our time, right now, Freedom is here! Let's make full use of it.
