Entries A-J. The Devil's Dictionary was begun in a weekly paper in 1881 and was continued in a desultory way at long intervals until 1906. The author hopes to be held guiltless by those to whom the work is addressed: enlightened souls who prefer dry wines to sweet, sense to sentiment, wit to humor, and clean English to slang. A conspicuous and, it is hoped, not unpleasant feature of the book is its abundant illustrative quotations from eminent poets, chief of whom is that learned and ingenius cleric Father Gassalasca Jape, SJ, whose lines bear his initials. Ambrose Bierce disappeared in Mexico in 1913. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Jack Chekijian. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/mike/001731/bk_mike_001731_sample.mp3. A BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation by Hattie Naylor. This play was inspired by a newspaper article written by Emile Zola in response to the Dreyfus Affair of the 1890s, when a Jewish army officer was persecuted and wrongly imprisoned by the French military and judicial establishment. Louis Gregori gives a right-wing and nationalistic perspective on the events that led him to believe that the murder of the guiltless Dreyfus was the correct and only action. Starring Mark Heap as Louis, Kathryn Hunt as Dominique, with Graeme Hawley, Conrad Nelson, Paul Mundell, and Jonathan Keeble. Directed by Pauline Harris. Language: English. By the light of day, the world seems pleasant and safe. We tell ourselves we are the top of the life chain, the ultimate evolved species. When the sun sets and menacing eyes open, the lie is over. Our laughable dominance over the earth fades behind the veil of night. Beneath quiet and gloomy skies, rotten fingers claw upward from the cold ground. Coffin lids squeal. The lunatics in dank cells cackle the hymns of hell. Torturous nightmares rage in innocent minds devouring hope and sanity. Blades of vengeance harvest false justice among the guiltless. And the claws of forgotten beasts kill without reason. They Come at Midnight...to feed...and to bring us to our knees in serve to their dark masters. At the final toll of the bell, the wicked hunt begins, and there is no hope for our survival. Everette Bell brings us twelve tales of screaming terror in the tradition of scratchy radio dramas, black and white drive-in movies, and low budget video cassettes. Feel the breath of death on your neck as you read the tolling tales of the midnight hour of doom. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Andrew Wehrlen. Research has shown, truly so, that the average human being thinks over 10,000 thoughts in one day, such as: I can do it; I cannot; I hate you; I am a failure; God cannot forgive me; I cannot forgive myself; it is too difficult; it is possible; it is impossible; this land is useless; this job is useless; you are a wicked boy; you are a thief; I am good for nothing, etc. Now, how many of those thoughts are centered on God's word? Another discovery I made from the Holy Scriptures was that wars are won and lost in Heaven and on Earth by words that come from the heart. Which of those words coming out of our hearts is centered on God's word? Which aren't? Win life's battles daily using the 12.4.3 plan, which will help us dwell on God's word and take our thoughts, corresponding words, and actions captive daily. Here are twelve (12) scripture-packed, mind-renewing declarations to fuel a daily victorious Christian lifestyle - manifesting in fearless, healthy, joyful, loving, hate-free, peaceful, Spirit-filled, guiltless, sinless, high self-esteem, faith-driven, and vision-accomplishing living. The 12.4.3 plan is: 12 minutes; four declarations; three times - a plan that helps you and me to be committed to spending a minimum of 36 minutes of your God-given 24-hour day being in prayer mode by praying through the Win Life's Battles Daily guide. The 36-minute plan is spread such that every six hours of the day, you knock on Heaven's doors for a minimum of 12 minutes. All it takes to pray and confess through the entire 12 declarations with the Bible references is 36 minutes, which is 12 minutes maximum per session. If we can keep the discipline of declaring and praying through the Word for 21 days, a habit will be developed that will help us stay connected to the Throne Room for life and it will be difficult to break the habit afterwards. This action will renew our minds; our confessions and our actions will begin to line up with t ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Lucie Carole. Eric Hage of the Metroland says of the Sense Offenders: Albany band the Sense Offenders play ballsy, macho rock that is lead by the vocal growl and songwriting sensibilities of the undeniably talented Tom McWatters. 'Razor's Edge' opens up the album with an ominous rumble that builds into a booty shaking, hard rock scrum upheld by the slashing power chords of guitarist Eric Halder and the precision clatter of drummer John Brodeur. But it's McWatters' feral, bluesy howl that truly marks this territory as serious business. 'Loaded with my Love' mixes things up a bit by offering more of a rock&roll, not hard rock, attack that lands somewhere closely in the neighborhood of 1970's Elvis Costello or Rockpile. Mostly though, this album is supreme 'cock rock', finely executed with balls to match. Few people could drop lines like 'it's cold outside so come in soon/join the revival in my bedroom'(from 'Stiff Breeze') and be taken seriously. But McWatters, with that dirty howl and all of that heavy artillery behind him (and some righteous organ), pulls it off quite well. Sure, this is dead serious 'rawk', but one also gets the sense that the Sense Offenders are having a whole lot of fun living it up like Free or Bad Company did back in the day.-Erik Hage, Metroland, Albany NY Our bio: The Sense Offenders are a favorite on the Albany club scene, thanks to the strong soulful vocals of Tom McWatters, and a commitment to performances that leave rooms full of tired, sweaty bodies in their wake. Behind McWatters is a group of sought-after, multitasking musicians: his brother Matt McWatters, a talented songwriter and singer in his own right, on bass, the fiery guitar leads of Eric Halder, who also leads his own classic rock influenced trio, Charmboy, Terry McClain, leader of rock misfits Guiltless Cult, on keys, and John Brodeur, of Maggie Mayday and Helctor on Stilts, on drums. The songs of the Sense Offenders' self titled debut CD range from aggressive chest beaters like 'Razor's Edge' and 'Rebel Anthem' to funk flavored rockers like 'Stiff Breeze' and 'Lord Humongous', with the occasional anthemic ballad 'Dear Mrs Whitman', and Elvis Costello influenced pop tune, 'Loaded with my Love', thrown in for good measure. The Sense Offenders came together in August 2005, and we released our self title debut disc in september 2007. We've since shared the stage with bands like Cracker, Mohair, Super 400, and the Fireflies. You're next. If you can handle the stiff breeze, the Sense Offenders want to give it to you, hard.
