  LAURA JONES, cello Laura Jones is a native of Brandon, Manitoba, and it was at Brandon University that she started her formal music education. She completed a Bachelor's degree at the University of Toronto, and went on to receive her Master's Degree in Performance at the University of Michigan. Now living in Toronto, she enjoys a busy and multi-faceted career on both modern and period instruments. Laura has been a member of the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra since 1989, as well, she is the principal cellist of the Nota Bene Period Orchestra, and has also performed with Opera Atelier and the Aradia Ensemble, with whom she has made several recordings on the Naxos label. As a chamber musician, she performs regularly as a member of the Windermere String Quartet on Period Instruments, Talisker Players Chamber Music (with whom she has appeared at both the Elora and Ottawa Chamber Music Festivals), and L'Intemporel Baroque Ensemble. Her performances on viola da gamba with Isabel Bayrakdarian, the Toronto Consort, and the Toronto Chamber Choir have been recorded for broadcast by the CBC, as was the inaugural concert of the Windermere String Quartet Concert Series. Laura has had the privilege of collaborating with her father ever since she began playing the cello, this recording is a celebration of their life-long musical relationship. LAWRENCE JONES, piano Lawrence Jones was born in 1936 on a farm near Ninga, in Southwestern Manitoba. After lessons with his mother and with Bernice Pettypiece, he studied on scholarship with Lorne Watson at Brandon College. On moving to Winnipeg, he studied with Filmer Hubble, completed a BA degree at the University of Manitoba, and won a scholarship to continue his studies at Yale University (MusM). In 1961 he joined the expanding faculty of Brandon College, and continued there as a professor of piano and music history. Studies at the University of Iowa led to a DMA degree in 1985. From 1987 to 1992 he served a term as Dean of the School of Music at Brandon University, followed by six months as a Visiting Fellow at the University of Southampton. Though he retired in 1997, he continues as a part-time teacher at Brandon University. His teachers included Ellsworth Grumman (Yale), Bernhard Weiser (University of Minnesota), Adele Marcus (New York), John Simms (Iowa), and Kendall Taylor (London). He has served as an examiner for Western Board of Music and Conservatory Canada, and adjudicated across Western Canada. He has given solo recitals on CBC Radio, and for several years was pianist for renowned violinist Francis Chaplin.
