Nick Prince just wants to go drown his sorrows at the Safari Club and pine for Beth, his lost college love. But before he can do that, his job with the U.S. Census Bureau requires him to face down reluctant respondents in the remote forests of Oregon, who repel him with everything from pit bulls to shotguns. When a chance encounter in the tiny town of Elwood lands him in the midst of a loopy polygamist clan, it sets off a wild, wacky race to save himself, his job, and his bleeding heart. You won't know whether to laugh or cry as Nick struggles to sort out the multiple warrants and women that stand between him and his sanity. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Brian Allard. For this book, author Diane Conway approached a police officer, a waitress, a politician, a lawyer, a cab driver, and many others, and asked them each the same question: "What would you do if you had no fear?" The results, chronicled in this book, were both surprising and enlightening. Her respondents told her their secrets, their long-hidden dreams, and their fears. Their dreams included quitting mind-numbing jobs, applying to medical school, buying tickets to South America, finding true love, quitting drinking, or having an affair. The distance between dreaming and doing, according to Conway, is surprisingly short. In What Would You Do If You Had No Fear? her fresh voice and "Studs Terkel in drag persona" challenge readers to stop, open their hearts, and truly live. Included are self-tests, quizzes, growth exercises, and inspiring quotes for realizing one's fear-free potential. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Pam Ward. First published in 1994, Winners and Losers is based upon a two-year study carried out in Manchester. Using a wealth of research material gathered from 1000 respondents from seven ethnic minority groups, it details the social, cultural, and religious priorities of these groups, and through this, their involvement with sport and physical recreation. A major theme of the book is that all those involved in the promotion of sport and recreation facilities in whatever context should recognise that ethnic minority groups are different, and their differences need to be understood, respected and accepted. It is important for the providers and the ethnic minority groups to learn about each other and understand the motives which underlie each other's responses and recognise the limitations which define the boundaries of the possible for both sides. This book is a must read for scholars and researchers of education, and multiculturalism.

In 2000, the citizens of California passed Proposition 22, which affirmed a legal understanding that marriage was a union between one man and one woman. In 2008, the California Supreme Court held that the California Constitution required the term “marriage” to include the union of same-sex couples and invalidated Proposition 22. Later in 2008, California citizens passed Proposition 8, which amended the California Constitution to provide that “only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized by California.” The respondents, a gay couple and a lesbian couple, sued the state officials responsible for the enforcement of California’s marriage laws and claimed that Proposition 8 violated their Fourteenth Amendment right to equal protection of the law. When the state officials originally named in the suit informed the district court that they could not defend Proposition 8, the petitioners, official proponents of the measure, intervened to defend it. The district court held that Proposition 8 violated the Constitution, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit affirmed. Language: English. Narrator: uncredited. At first, the marriage seemed to be fitting of a storybook fairy tale, but relationship troubles pushed both man and woman to the edge of sanity. Unfortunately for Elisabeth Anne “Betty” Broderick’s former husband and new wife, it ended in murder. In the early morning hours of November 5, 1989, the calm of a seemingly typical Sunday morning was shattered by the ringing of gunfire. The shooting occurred in the home of one of Marston Hill’s most prominent medical malpractice attorneys, Daniel Broderick III. By the time police respondents arrived at the scene of the crime, there appeared to be no evidence of forced entry. However, what waited for them in the bedroom would be something that would be etched in their minds forever. The 44-year-old lawyer was lying in a pool of blood on the floor with a bullet hole in his back. His new wife, 28-year-old Linda Kolkena-Broderick, was found spread on top of the couple’s bed with wounds in her head and chest, the bedsheets and pillows drenched in her blood. There was only one suspect, Daniel’s ex-wife, Betty Broderick. ungekürzt.
