Brother Fish , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 1907min
From the author of The Power of One comes an inspiring human drama and war story of three lives brought together and changed forever by the extraordinary events of recent history. Inspired by real events, Bryce Courtenay's new novel tells the story of three people from vastly differing backgrounds. All they have in common is a tough beginning in life. Jack McKenzie is a harmonica player, soldier, dreamer, and small-time professional fisherman from a tiny island in Bass Strait. Nicole Lenoir-Jourdan is a strong-willed woman hiding from an ambiguous past in Shanghai. Larger than life, Private Jimmy Oldcorn was once a street kid and leader of a New York gang. Together, they reap a vast and not always legitimate fortune from the sea. Narrated by celebrated, award-winning actor Humphrey Bower. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Humphrey Bower. Life in a Broken World , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 203min
The world is constantly changing, faster now than ever before. Christians offer our faith as the means to discover purpose and to offset the dysfunction and corruption of the world, since we can’t fix it. If what we believe truly offers the answers to the questions of life, then our faith must be more than telling people to be better and do better. Our faith must be able to step into the chaos, just as Jesus did, offering hope and grace, not condemnation. Or to put it another way, does it really matter what you believe? Can faith help us navigate a culture so easily offended by differing opinions? Is it sturdy enough to stand against the uninhibited expression of hatred? Are we simply supposed to be nicer? Social Media has become a world filled with people yelling at each other for nothing more than a differing thought. The rapid changes have given us the illusion we are better while magnifying our dysfunction. Jesus entered into a similar mixture of humanity. The world was no less broken in that time than it is now. We think we are better now but in truth, we are not. That is really all we have to offer the world, the admission that we too, are broken. That is the path he invited us to follow. It is also the great difficulty of faith - admitting we are not as good as we think we are. In this admission, this confession, is not a one and done event. It is the path of God’s invitation and design for life. It is not a try harder and do better path. It is a learning path. A path of repentance and ongoing discovery of life. If you are looking for a Hallmark, let’s all be nice story and life will be wonderful, this is not it. If like me you are tired of the pretense and think there is more to faith than just trying to be nice, perhaps God will pull back the curtains to help us discover the truth about his provision for our need that enables our faith to flourish in times just like this. Welcome to life in a broken world. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Steve McCoy. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/206004/bk_acx0_206004_sample.mp3. Gendered Politics in Sophocles' Trachiniae (eBook, PDF)
This is the first book-length examination of the notion of gendered politics in Sophocles' Trachiniae. Making use of feminist theory and tackling the political nature of the categories of identity, culture and sexuality, Seferiadi brings the interpretation of Sophocles' play up-to-date with the most recent scholarly developments. She discusses the play in the light of its Amazonian and monstrous background and touches upon topics such as marriage and the exchange of women; reciprocity within a corroded system of gift-exchanges; and the dynamics of female silence and the 'impaired' hegemonic masculinity. Contributing to the topic of rape in the ancient world, this book focuses on sexual violence and the intertwinement of marriage and rape from the perspective of tragedy. With an Amazon being placed within the civilized arrangement of an oikos, the play negotiates the position of the female and advocates the need to expel the monstrous sexualities from the polis. Differing from previous analyses, this study is a reminder that female subjectivity was less foreclosed than is often tacitly assumed.- Shop: buecher

Patristic Perspectives on Luke's Transfiguration (eBook, PDF)
Peter Anthony explores how visionary elements in Luke's Gospel had a particular influence on early interpretation of the Transfiguration, by examining the rich hermeneutical traditions that emerged - particularly in the Latin West - as the Transfiguration was first depicted visually in art.Anthony begins by comparing the visual and visionary culture of antiquity with that of the present, and their differing interpretations of the Transfiguration. He then examines the Transfiguration texts in the synoptic gospels and their interpretation in modern scholarship, and the reception of the Transfiguration in 2 Peter, the Apocalypse of Peter and the Acts of Peter, Tertullian and Origen. Proceeding to look at interpretations found in the Greek East and the Latin West, Anthony finally discusses the earliest visual depictions of the Transfiguration from the sixth century onward, drawn from a wealth of different art forms. Anthony concludes that early commentators' and artists' understanding of how we see and visualise, and therefore, how the Transfiguration was apprehended, is closer to that of the writers of the New Testament than many modern interpreters' is.- Shop: buecher

Dirty Old Man , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 123min
Roy Corwin, a simple man, widower, retired. A long life lived with a purpose, but don't ever call him a Dirty Old Man. Roy loved Halloween. He treated it as the most special night of the year, next to Christmas Eve. Decorations, spooky stories, kids dressed as ghosts and goblins running from house to house collecting enough candy to satisfy any sweet tooth for a year. That's what he thought until this year. Roy, a decorated Vietnam veteran, lives alone in his childhood home in a neighborhood where the only other occupied house belongs to a drug lord. Two foes united by differing memories of Halloween, a visit from a lost friend. Years, of savagery in the jungles of a foreign country, struggling with the loss of his wife, and living with the stigma of a slanderous dark story from his past, have pushed him to the brink on this All Hallows Eve. Roy is taking back his self-respect. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Michael Soma. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/095122/bk_acx0_095122_sample.mp3.
