The Truth of the Line (eBook, ePUB)
Nicholas Hilliard (1547-1619) was a trusted member of the court and favourite of Queen Elizabeth I. He illuminated various charters and legal documents as well as painting portraits of the queen and many of his contemporaries. From the 1580s onwards HIliard portrayed the queen either as Cynthea - Virgin Goddess of the Moon, or as the perpetually young Astrea - Virgin Goddess of the Golden Age. These miniature portraits reinforced the idea that England's queen was, and would remain unmarried. However, is there more than propaganda regarding the queen's chastity behind these portraits of Elizabeth I? This novel tells Hilliard's own story through some of the portraits he created for his patrons and interprets the symbols and emblems these paintings contain. From the time he was introduced to Elizabeth I in 1572, I explore the great events that happened between 1572 and 1588 as seen through his eyes. The title is a quote from Hilliard's draft treatise of 1598, but is it purely a reference to his extraordinary ability to capture his sitter's likeness? His portrait of a young man holding a hand coming from a cloud (in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London) has long puzzled historians and art historians, and I am but one in a long line of those who have theories as to the meaning behind the motto, Attici Amoris Ergo. I believe the answer also lies in comparing this portrait with Hilliard's portrait of Elizabeth I painted in 1572 and the many he created of Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester - for that you can go online and look at the portraits for yourself. These are listed at the back of the book. As a great friend of mine who is a forensic scientist, said, "You can't beat genetics!"- Shop: buecher

Die hyperaktive Leistungskursvariante in Sachen Math-Rock, Math-Core, Progressive oder wie auch immer du es nennen magst. ROLO TOMASSI will release their third studio album - 'Astraea' - on November 5th. The new album will be released by Destination Moon Records, the band's own label that has already released records by bands including Holland and Kappa Gamma as well as last year's Eternal Youth ROLO TOMASSI anthology album. The band, which was originally founded in Sheffield and is now based between Nottingham and Brighton, will tour the release across the UK and Europe from October (all tour dates below). The band will be touring across the UK in October, including a London show on Halloween, and will follow it up with a European tour in November. The band will also be touring across the world in 2013 with a number of major headline shows and exciting support shows. 'Astrea' is the band's first album since Nathan Fairweather and Chris Cayford joined the band at the end of last year, and was recorded by Jason Sanderson. Jason was the man behind the band's debut album 'Hysterics', and has worked with a host of other bands including 65 Days of Static and Brontide. 'Astraea' will hopefully cement Rolo Tomassi's place as one of the most exciting and expansive bands in the British rock community. The album includes some of the most direct, heaviest tracks the band has ever written including album opener Howl and Echopraxia, which sees the band at their most technical, as well as a number of songs that showcases the band's melodic progressive side including Illuminare, which highlights the lighter beauty of Eva Spence's vocals. The band will also release Ex Luna Scientia ahead of the album. TRACKS: 01. Howl 02. Ex Luna Scientia 03. The Scales of Balance 04. Remancer 05. Empiresk 06. Prelude II (Echolalia) 07. Echopraxia 08.
