Max Planck: The Life and Legacy of the Influential German Physicist Who Pioneered Quantum Theory , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 82min
There are many feel-good fictitious stories surrounding history's most brilliant minds, and one of the most famous involves Max Planck, a friend and contemporary of Albert Einstein. The story is said to have unfolded some time during Planck's national lecture tour in Germany in the autumn of 1918. An unnamed chauffeur escorted Planck to and from the varying universities and learning institutions on his agenda, day after day. But rather than wander off for a snack, sit down with a good book, or doze off in his chair in the back of the auditoriums, the chauffeur leaned forward with a keen ear and diligently filled the pages of his journal with notes. After about a week or so, however, the chauffeur began to grow restless, for the traveling professor had been tasked with delivering a lecture on a certain subject, thereby making his classes more or less identical. The following day, the curious chauffeur approached his employer and boldly suggested, “Professor, I have heard you give the same lecture on quantum mechanics so many times that I now know it by heart. It must be very boring for you, so for tonight, why don't we swap roles? I'll deliver the lecture and you sit in the audience and wear my chauffeur's cap."Intrigued, Planck agreed. Prior to entering the next lecture, the pair, now disguised as the other, arranged themselves in their respective positions and proceeded with class as normal. In an era prior to mass media and the worldwide web, such a ploy could easily be executed if done correctly. And so, the chauffeur, as it turns out, would not disappoint, and he delivered the lecture like a certified professional. The chauffeur's presentation carried on without a hitch until one of the spectators threw him off guard with a scrupulously investigated, complex question about quantum mechanics. Most would have broken down into a shivering and sweaty pile of nerves, but the chauffeur, without missing a beat, silenced him with this response: “I'm s ungekürzt. Language: English. Leipziger Disputation

Playing with Color: Music from Argentina & Brazil
BeloSom, the vibrant four-hand piano duo, was formed by Brazilian pianist Patricia Guadagnoli and American pianist and conductor Lee Hagon in 2012. "Belo som", meaning "beautiful sound" in Portuguese, reflects the goal of the pianists to share beautiful music from all over the world and from many different time periods, using the vast array of sounds available through the versatility of the piano. BeloSom has played much of the well-loved four-hand piano literature, including Ravel's "Mother Goose Suite", Rachmaninoff's Suite for four hands, Brahms' Hungarian Dances, Dvorak's Slavonic Dances, Liszt's "Mephisto" waltzes and Hungarian Dances for four hands, works by Poulenc and Saint-Saens, Mozart sonatas, and everything in between. While BeloSom's roots are in the classical tradition, Patricia and Lee share a passion for the music of Latin cultures. In addition to playing varied and virtuosic classical, romantic and modern four-hand piano repertoire, the duo also explores lesser known works by composers from Latin countries, particularly Argentina, Portugal, Brazil, Spain, Italy, and Cuba. Patricia and Lee also create their own four hand arrangements to fuse the character of Latin genres with their classical style, while also utilizing more modern, inside-piano techniques. Patricia and Lee are available for commissions, or to create an arrangement of your composition, or a specific piece you would like arranged for four hands. Please get in touch with us on the contact page to get more information. Strings have a beautiful sweet sound that reminds listeners of romance. Many of these pieces, such as Pachelbel's Canon in D, are very familiar to most audiences, because they have appeared in so many movies. The Four Seasons String Quartet was named after the famous 'Four Seasons Concertos' by Antonio Vivaldi, who was an 18th century Italian violin master and composer. Vivaldi was known as the 'Red Priest' because of his red hair, which was unusual for Italians. Vivaldi lived in Venice and taught music at an orphanage for girls. His orchestra became the most famous in all of Europe. He was inspired by Georg Handel who composed operas and music for the court of the King of England. J.S. Bach was inspired by Antonio Vivaldi's violin concertos to compose the first keyboard concertos for his prince and patron in Germany. This music was once enjoyed only by Kings and Queens and their courtiers, but is now available to the public. So give yourself 'The Royal Treatment' by purchasing 'The Wedding Album' CD performed at your request by the Four Seasons String Quartet.
