The Field Researcher's Handbook: A Guide to the Art and Science of Professional Fieldwork , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 231min
Field research, the collection of information outside a lab or workplace setting, requires skills and knowledge not typically taught in the classroom. Fieldwork demands exploratory inquisitiveness, empathy to encourage interviewees to trust the researcher, and sufficient aptitude to work professionally and return home safely. The Field Researcher's Handbook provides a practical guide to planning and executing fieldwork and presenting the results. Based on his experience conducting field research in more than fifty countries and teaching others a holistic approach to field research, David J. Danelo introduces the skills new researchers will need in the field, including anthropology, travel logistics planning, body language recognition, interview preparation, storytelling, network development, and situational awareness. His time as a combat veteran in the US Marine Corps further enhances his knowledge of how to be observant and operate safely in any environment. Danelo also discusses ethical considerations and how to recognize personal biases. This handbook is intended for researchers in a variety of academic disciplines but also for government, think-tank, and private-sector researchers. The book is published by Georgetown University Press."David Danelo has produced an insightful, step-by-step guide to professional fieldwork that artfully underscores the importance of the craft." (Tracy Dahlby, University of Texas at Austin)"This book empowers readers with a clear path forward in their pursuit of knowledge." (Patrick Van Horne, Co-author of Left of Bang: How the Marine Corps' Combat Hunter Program Can Save Your Life)"David Danelo is an extraordinary field researcher who has lived in the world about which he writes so eloquently. Travel Tales Monthly: No. 6 DEC 2014 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 164min
The December 2014 issue, number six, of Travel Tales Monthly bookazine samples drug tourism--the quest to achieve the sorts of brain states that travelers avidly seek out for the purposes of recreating, vegetating, meditating, cogitating, experimenting, exploring, or seeking enlightenment and personal growth. Tales such as "Snake Wine", "The Full Moon Party", and "Magical, Mystical Marrakesh" illustrate how travelers wander the world to experiment or explore by ingesting, injecting, imbibing, chewing, eating, snorting, and smoking a variety of drugs, substances, plants, and even "medications" in order to morph from the normal, oft boring, mundane, ordinary, conscious waking state into the brainless or the superconscious in an attempt to achieve various mental states of being that range somewhere betwixt and between the mindless and the mindful. It is one thing to dabble in a limited way with substances at home; it's another matter altogether to venture into a vast world of the exotic--a world that is a veritable candy store of magical, mystical drugs and substances that are there simply for the taking. Some travelers are lured to the hypothetical, mysterious, so-called blue pill or red pill. Not only can they choose one of these pills to satisfy their exploring, their inquisitiveness, their mental journeys piled on top of their physical travel journeys; they can choose both as well as a panoply of other substances. But what are the consequences of doing drugs and substances in a foreign land? In one of our featured stories this month, "Snake Wine", our traveler toys dangerously with drinking, willy-nilly, a concoction of blood and venom of a deadly poisonous snake in a Taiwan night market. ungekürzt. What the Fireflies Knew
TARGET CONSUMER: For fans of coming-of-age narratives and of authors such as Jacqueline Woodson, Jesmyn Ward, Asha Lemmie, Abi Daré, Celeste Ng, and Harper Lee. A coming-of-age novel told from the perspective of eleven-year-old KB, as she and her sister try, over the course of a summer, to make sense of their new life with their estranged grandfather after the death of their father and disappearance of their mother After almost-eleven-year-old Kenyatta Bernice's (KB) father dies of an overdose and the debts incurred from his addiction cause the loss of the family home in Detroit, she and her teenage sister, Nia, are sent by their overwhelmed mother to live with their estranged grandfather in Lansing. Over the course of a single, sweltering summer, KB attempts to get her bearings in a world that has turned upside down-a father who is labeled a fiend; a mother whose smile no longer reaches her eyes; a sister, once her best friend, who has crossed the threshold of adolescence and suddenly wants nothing to do with her; a grandfather who is grumpy and silent; the white kids across the street who are friendly, but only sometimes. And all of them are keeping secrets. Pinballing between resentment, abandonment, and loneliness, KB is forced to carve out a different identity for herself and find her own voice. As she examines the jagged pieces of her recently shattered world, she learns that while some truths cut deep, a new life-and a new KB-can be built from the shards. Capturing all the vulnerability, perceptiveness, and inquisitiveness of a young Black girl on the cusp of puberty, Harris's prose perfectly inhabits that hazy space between childhood and adolescence, where everything that was once familiar develops a veneer of strangeness when seen through newer, older eyes. Through KB's disillusionment and subsequent discovery of her own power, What the Fireflies Knew poignantly reveals that heartbreaking but necessary component of growing up-the realization that loved ones can be flawed, sometimes significantly so, and that the perfect family we all dream of looks different up close.- Shop: buecher

After the Storm
The title track 'After the Storm' was inspired by the tragic devastation to the people and city of New Orleans caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The music aims to paint a picture of the period during the end of the storm and as it disappears into history. The piece begins with a rhythm and tension depicting the storm itself which then evolves into a state of sadness. The real beauty of the piece is the following section which brings a sense of hope that better days are ahead. There are several pieces on the album that express themes from the Hurricane Katrina Tragedy such as 'Hope', 'As the Sun Rises', and 'Loss.' There is no scientific doubt that music can affect one's mood and well-being. There is also no doubt that emotions are direct responses to music. Yet, we don't know exactly why we have an emotional connection to musical sounds. Some theories state that music may have been a crucial part of early human behavior and can be traced back to the most primitive parts of the human brain. In essence, music is a component of our being. As a committed student to the study of affective emotions, guitarist/composer Tony Margiotta infuses emotional charges within his musical creations. Emotion is what inspires him to write music, and to serve all those who have a desire for musical pleasure. A pleasure that brings them not only an inner peace on earth, but also to a world of imagination beyond consciousness. After many years of musical evolution, Tony has created a genre of music that seeks universal appeal. Sophisticated, yet never overstated, his music blends many influences including jazz, rock, world, and new age. Beyond style, his music possesses feelings of inquisitiveness, passion, and reflection. Tony's melodies are thematic and are intended to create memorable images like an evocative photograph or a brilliantly colorful painting. His music has been described as ethereal, smooth, relaxing, worldly, and fitting for soundtracks. But the most critical aspect of his music is to evoke an emotional response from the listener. Through his emotionally drenched compositions, Tony attempts to break through the passive surface of society and affect it's people to feel and dream in ways that unveil the nakedness and essence of humanity. The music of Tony Margiotta is a shared experience that reaches out to the global community. Considering himself a musical servant, Tony's mission is to provide a soundtrack for people's lives. The experience awaits you.- Shop: odax
