The Caterpillar and the Wild Animals: An East African Folktale, Hörbuch, Digital, 11min
Award-winning storyteller Bill Gordh (Film Advisory Board Award of Excellence winner, National Association of Parenting Periodicals Gold Award winner) presents this folk tale live with no script, accompanied only by his own dynamic banjo playing. Caterpillar is small but has a big voice. When Rabbit goes out and leaves her door open, Caterpillar decides to play a trick on rabbit. It crawls inside rabbit's house and slams the door. When rabbit returns, she gets scared because she sees scratchy marks on the ground and her door is closed. She asks who's in her house. The caterpillar answers in its big voice, "It's me, the Long One." It frightens Rabbit. Along comes Lion. Lion offers to help and knock on the door and asks, "Who's in Rabbit's House." With its big voice the caterpillar replies, "It's me, the Long One." The Lion is frightened and runs off and hides. The same thing happens with Elephant and Rhino. Rabbit is about to give up. Little Frog hops up and offers to help. Rabbit thanks Frog, but suggests it is too small. Frog asks for a chance. Frog has been watching all day. After it knocks and hear the caterpillar's loud reply, Frog rolls up a leaf into a megaphone and makes a loud sound threatening to jump all over "the Long One". The little caterpillar throws open the door and comes running out showing that it is just a little caterpillar. The big animals laugh at the joke. Caterpillar is still frightened. Frog hops up and shows its megaphone trick. Language: English. Narrator: Bill Gordh. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/adbl/017041/bk_adbl_017041_sample.mp3. McNally's Folly, Hörbuch, Digital, 201min
Archy McNally, South Florida's premiere sleuth-about-town created by Lawrence Sanders, strikes again - in a deliciously daffy caper that takes a decidedly deadly turn. When the Palm Beach Community Theater needs a director for its production of Arsenic and Old Lace, Archy tosses his megaphone into the ring. After all, Hollywood legend Desdemona Darling will lend her considerable talents to the production. While resident grande dame Lady Cynthia Horowitz wants a little of the spotlight to fall on her latest live-in hunk, Buzz Carr, she has no intention of letting Buzz rehearse all day with the actress, who, like Lady C, has made marriage a cottage industry. For poor Archy, there's more drama backstage than onstage, and plenty of confusion everywhere, especially with the fuzzy-headed Binky Watrous serving as stage manager. When an actor takes a sip of prop wine and drops dead, the Palm Beach police suddenly take a special interest in the local theater scene. In a play filled with murders, only Archy can separate the actors from the genuine article, and bring down the curtain on the latest and most enjoyable of McNally's follies. Language: English. 100 Things I Meant to Tell You: Rants, Rhymes, & Reportage from the Original Grumpy Old Man , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 374min
Arthur Smith is a "national treasure", extremely well-loved, with more than 45K Twitter followers. An anthology of Arthur Smith’s uniquely varied written work, this is Arthur's first book for many years. 100 Things I Meant to Tell You brings together 100 stories, poems, and articles gathered over a colourful lifetime making a living on the comedy circuit. In 2005, Arthur turned down a Perrier Award for Lifetime Achievement, saying, “They wanted to tell me I was old and cool; well, I know that already.” Currently the popular host of BBC Radio 4 Extra’s Comedy Club, he has travelled all over the British Isles and the rest of the world performing and reporting on a range of subjects as diverse as flotsam and jetsam in Holland (in a series for BBC 1’s The One Show) and more recently, goat yoga in Ipswich, but never before has he corralled all these wonderful stories into book form. Some humorous, some anecdotal, some nostalgic, and some extremely poignant, the stories include the time Arthur was arrested for "breach of the peace and possession of a megaphone", the time he hitched a lift from a nun and heard his own voice (imitating Leonard Cohen) playing on her car radio, the fight he had with Billy Connelly, his flight in a Tiger Moth, and - in verse - his hatred of Teletubbies. Covering a huge range of subjects and emotions, tales of hilarious, chaotic antics are juxtaposed with gentle, bittersweet stories about love affairs that ended badly and his mother’s journey into dementia, making this a cornucopia of delight for Arthur Smith fans everywhere. ungekürzt. It's Your Ship: Management Techniques from the Best Damn Ship in the Navy , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 384min
The story of Captain D. Michael Abrashoff and his command of USS Benfold has become legendary inside and outside the Navy. Now Abrashoff offers this fascinating tale of top-down change for anyone trying to navigate today's uncertain business seas. When Captain Abrashoff took over as commander of the Benfold, a ship armed with every cutting-edge system available, it was like a business that had all the latest technology but only some of the productivity. Knowing that responsibility for improving performance rested with him, he realized he had to improve his own leadership skills before he could improve his ship. Within months he created a crew of confident and inspired problem-solvers eager to take the initiative and take responsibility for their actions. The slogan on board became "It's your ship," and Benfold was soon recognized far and wide as a model of naval efficiency. How did Abrashoff do it? Against the backdrop of today's United States Navy - Benfold was a key player in our Persian Gulf fleet - Abrashoff shares his secrets of successful management including: See the ship through the eyes of the crew: By soliciting a sailor's suggestions, Abrashoff drastically reduced tedious chores that provided little additional value. Communicate, communicate, communicate: The more Abrashoff communicated the plan, the better the crew's performance. His crew would eventually call him "Megaphone Mike", since they heard from him so often. Create discipline by focusing on purpose: Discipline skyrocketed when Abrashoff's crew believed that what they were doing was important. Listen aggressively: After learning that many sailors wanted to use the GI Bill, Abrashoff brought a test official aboard the ship-and held the SATs forty miles off the Iraqi coast. From achieving amazing cost savings to winning the highest gunnery score in the Pacific Fleet, Captain Abrashoff's extraordinar ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: D. Michael Abrashoff.
Auszeichnungen:ADC Award, 2019, New YorkiF Design Award, 2019, HannoverA' Design Award, 2019 Como/ItalyEcon Megaphone Award, Shortlist, 2019, BerlinIndigo Design Award, 2019, AmsterdamGerman Design Award, 2019, FrankfurtBest Book Award, 2018, Los AngelesBerlin Type Award, 2018, BerlinRed Dot Design Award, 2018, EssenADC Award, 2018, BerlinJoseph Binder Award, 2018, ViennaInternational Design Award, 2018, Los AngelesInternational Creative Media Award, 2018, MeerbuschStiftung Buchkunst, Shortlist, 2018, Frankfurt- Shop: buecher
