Obwohl sie als Gegenspieler zu den Insekten ein wichtiges Glied funktionierender Nahrungsketten sind, die den ökologischen Zustand unserer Landschaften maßgeblich mitbestimmen, ist über ihre Verbreitung, ihre Ökologie und ihre Populationstrends wenig bekannt. Vorliegendes Buch will Naturfreunden, Landschaftsplanern, Behördenmitarbeitern und Arachnologen gleichermaßen die Spinnenfauna Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns vorstellen und den derzeitigen ökofaunistischen Wissenstand als Grundlage für Naturschutz und Landschaftsnutzung und für weitere Forschungen zur Diskussion stellen. Dazu wurden über 51 000 Datensätze aus fast 50 Jahren Spinnenforschung in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ausgewertet und Angaben zu Biologie und Ökologie der Arten, ihrer Verbreitung und ihrem Gefährdungsstatus gemacht. Zahlreiche von hervorragenden Naturfotografen beigesteuerte Abbildungen komplettieren das Werk und zeigen die Schönheit und Vielfalt der einheimischen Spinnenfauna.Vorliegender erster Band behandelt den Großteil der insgesamt 21 Spinnenfamilien, während der zweite Band den artenreichen Radnetz-, Strecker-, Baldachin- und Haubennetz-Spinnen vorbehalten ist. Although they are a critical link in the food chain - as natural predators to insects - and have a decisive influence on the ecological state of our landscapes, little is known about their distribution, ecology, and population trends. This book aims to present the spider fauna of Mecklenburg- Western Pomerania to nature lovers, landscape planners, officials, and arachnologists alike and to discuss the current state of eco-faunistic knowledge as a basis for nature conservation and landscape use as well as further research. For this purpose, more than 51,000 data sets from almost 50 years of spider research in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania were analyzed providing information on the biology and ecology of the species, their distribution, and their endangerment status. Numerous images, contributed by first-class nature photographers, complete the work and show the beauty and diversity of the native spider species. This first volume deals with the majority of the total of 21 spider families, while the second volume is reserved for the species-rich orb-weaver, long-jawed orb weaver, sheet-web weaver, and cobweb spiders

    Several thousand ethnic Germans in Romania, (the so called Volksdeutscher) were drafted into the Waffen-SS in 1943. With these new troops Himmler built up the new 11th Waffen-SS Division. To fill the ranks Division Nordland also took over battalion strength units from Danmark and Norway, though ninety percent of the division were Volksdeutsche from Romania. They were first used incombat in Croatia, the Oranienbaumer, Estonia, and Latvia. After the Soviet attack in Pomerania they fought in Berlin and were destroyed there.
