There is a deep, rich vein of spirituality running through The Scribe, a novel that resurrects the life of Luke the Evangelist. After the crucifixion of Jesus, in its immediate aftermath, a young widower and member of the Sanhedrin becomes disillusioned with the high priests and begins to adopt a Christian way of thinking. Forced to leave Jerusalem, he finds himself in a time that heralded the birth of the gospels. The novel follows an array of characters both factual and fictional: Mary, the mother of Jesus, Jesus himself, the gospel writers, a mystical figure known as the Seer, and the Santos brothers, a seagoing pair from Hispania, among others.Set against a background of countries that made up the ancient world, The Scribe shines a beacon of light on a period of history that changed us all forever. ungekürzt. The Gospel of Nicodemus, otherwise known as the Acts of Pilate (Acta Pilati) is not assumed to have been written by Pilate, but rather to have been compiled from the official acts which were preserved in the praetorium at Jerusalem. The original is said to have been written by Nicodemus in Hebrew. The work gained a wide readership in the Middle Ages, with its popularity shown by the number of languages and versions in which it exists. Currently, there are known copies in Greek, Coptic, Armenian and Latin. These Acts are composed of three sections. The first section relates to the trial of Jesus and is similar to Luke 23. The second part regards the Resurrection. Then, in the third part, Christ's Descent into Hell (Descensus ad Infernos), for which there is no known Greek text. In it, Leucius and Charinus, two souls who are raised from the dead after the Crucifixion, tell the Sanhedrin the circumstances of the descent of Christ into Limbo. ungekürzt. Language: English. Lazarus and Y'shuah (Jesus' Hebrew name) grow up like brothers in the hills of Galilee. Both apprentice to their fathers as builders and carpenters until tragedy forces them to support their families. Lazarus refuses to believe his friend could be the Messiah of the Jews. He moves with his sisters to Judea and works alone until he suffers a crippling injury. His sisters learn that Y'shuah has become known in Galilee as a healer and teacher, so they summon him. Lazarus suffers an agonizing death. Four days later he hears his friend's voice calling him to come out of the tomb. His resurrection makes Lazarus a marked man. He is sentenced to die by the Sanhedrin Court for speaking about the miracle, but is offered a reprieve if he will keep silent. Lazarus sees Jesus crucified and in desperation flees to Galilee, where he is captured by a ruthless man-hunter. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Cameron Beierle.
