In October 2003 Patti Digh's stepfather was diagnosed with lung cancer. He died 37 days later. The timeframe made an impression on her. What emerged was a commitment to ask herself every morning: "What would I be doing today if I had only 37 days left to live?" The answers changed her life and led to this new kind of book. Part meditation, part how-to guide, part memoir, Life Is a Verb is all heart. Digh identifies six core practices to jump-start a meaningful life: Say Yes, Trust Yourself, Slow Down, Be Generous, Speak Up, and Love More. So I'd like to share a particular methodology from that workshop that permits you to complete a whole well-thoroughly considered and expert book in a shockingly brief timeframe. We should both arrange to complete our first books this year to showcase our master status to the world. Here are a few tips from the workshop I'm utilizing as I compose my book. Let these systems be your aide too. (Coincidentally, a great deal of this guidance proves to be useful for a written work venture.) The main thing you ought to do before you significantly think about composing as a book is to get your head straight. You need to develop your confidence in yourself. You need to trust that you can compose and that you can be a specialist in your field. Figure out how to perceive negative considerations and activities and supplant them with positive ones. In the event that you believe, "I'm not a specialist," promptly stop and say, "I am a specialist. I have the learning and preparing I have to position myself as a specialist, and I know more about my theme than the normal individual." ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Trevor Clinger. This book traces the role of Budapest building managers or concierges during the Holocaust. It analyzes the actions of a group of ordinary citizens in a much longer timeframe than Holocaust scholars usually do. Thus, it situates the building managers' activity during the war against the background of the origins and development of the profession as a by-product of the development of residential buildings since the forming of Budapest. Instead of presenting a snapshot from 1944, it shows that the building managers' wartime acts were influenced and shaped by their long-term social aspiration for greater recognition and their economic expectations. Rather than focusing solely on pre-war antisemitism, this book takes into consideration other factors from the interwar period, such as the culture of tipping. In Budapest, during June 1944, the Jewish residents were separated not into a single closed ghetto area, but by the authorities designating dispersed apartment buildings as 'ghetto houses'. The almost 2,000 buildings were spread throughout the entire city and the non-Jewish concierges serving in these houses represented the link between the outside and the inside world. The empowerment of these building managers happened as a side-effect of the anti-Jewish legislation and these concierges found themselves in an intermediary position between the authorities and the citizens.

Is corporate investing in the arts and culture within communities good business? Written by an expert on the topic who ran the Corporate Art Program at Johnson & Johnson, the book sets out the case for business patronage of the arts and culture and demonstrates how to build an effective program for businesses to follow. As companies seek new ways to add value to society, this book places business support of the arts in a corporate social responsibility context and offers a new concept: Corporate Cultural Responsibility. It discusses the issues underlying business support of the arts and explores new avenues of collaboration and value creation. The framework presented in the book serves as a guide for identifying the key attributes and projected impact of successful and sustainable models. Unlike other books centered on the relationship of art and commerce, this book looks at the broader and global implications of Corporate Cultural Responsibility. It also usefully sets the discussion about the role of philanthropy and corporate social responsibility and the arts within an historical timeframe. As the first book to link culture to community responsibility, the book will be of particular relevance to corporate art advisors and auction houses, as well as students of arts management and corporate social responsibility at advanced undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
