Megan's School Trip: A Spirit Guide, a Ghost Tiger, and One Scary Mother!: The Megan Series, Book 3 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 62min
Megan is a 13-year-old girl who realises that she has psychic powers that others do not have. At first she tried to talk to her mother about them, but with disastrous consequences, so she learned to keep quiet about them. However, some people did offer to help, and an animal showed a special friendship, but they were not alive in the normal sense of the word. They had passed on. Megan has three such friends: Wacinhinsha, her Spirit Guide, who was Sioux in his last life on Earth; her maternal grandfather, Gramps; and a huge Siberian tiger called Grrr. Wacinhinsha is extremely knowledgeable in all things spiritual, psychic, and paranormal; her grandfather is a novice dead person; and Grrr can speak only Tiger, as one might imagine, and most of that, of course, is unintelligible to humans. Megan's school goes on their annual trip, but first the headmaster has to decide where. There is a vote, and two places are chosen, one of which Megan really wants to visit! She uses her psychic powers to fully examine the location and get the most information from it. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Alexandra Laurence. The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus: Summary & Analysis , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 30min
This is a summary and analysis of "The Myth of Sisyphus". "The Myth of Sisyphus" is a 1942 philosophical essay by Albert Camus. The English translation by Justin O'Brien was first published in 1955. In the essay, Camus introduces his philosophy of the absurd: man's futile search for meaning, unity, and clarity in the face of an unintelligible world devoid of God and eternal truths or values. Does the realization of the absurd require suicide? Camus answers: "No. It requires revolt." He then outlines several approaches to the absurd life. The final chapter compares the absurdity of man's life with the situation of Sisyphus, a figure of Greek mythology who was condemned to repeat forever the same meaningless task of pushing a boulder up a mountain, only to see it roll down again. The essay concludes, "The struggle itself [...] is enough to fill a man's heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy." The work can be seen in relation to other absurdist works by Camus: the novel The Stranger (1942), the plays The Misunderstanding (1942) and Caligula (1944), and especially the essay "The Rebel" (1951). ungekürzt. Sleeper , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 450min
He quickly faced the door as the elevator started up. Just before it reached the fifth floor, he heard the static of the guard's walkie-talkie. An unintelligible message crackled. The elevator slowly came to a stop. The door crawled half open when he leapt out of the car. He raced to the door of ICU and looked back in the corridor. The guard had not gotten off the elevator. Allen breathed deeply. He was running scared, but from what? He had done nothing-or had he? When seven-year-old Angela Harris is rushed to a hospital emergency room in an unexplained coma, Dr. Ben Allen, the young pediatrician assigned to her case, welcomes the diagnostic challenge. His enthusiasm turns to frustration when confronted with the child's overbearing father, her phlegmatic mother, her doting but senile great-aunt, a knife-happy surgeon, and a hospital administrator who values fund-raising above patient care. Consumed by his efforts to save Angela before she falls victim to her mysterious illness, Allen must do so in the face of a series of events that threaten to end his budding career. ungekürzt. A Rare Recording of Navajo Code Talker Dan Akee, Hörbuch, Digital, 5min
Dan Akee was part of the Navajo code talker units of the US Marine Corps that relayed radio and phone messages in their native dialect during World War II operations. The method was fast and indecipherable to enemy eavesdroppers, as Navajo is an unwritten language of extreme complexity - with its syntax, tonal qualities, and various dialects - making it unintelligible to anyone without extensive exposure and training. It has no alphabet or symbols, and is spoken only on the Navajo lands of the American Southwest. By one estimate, at the time of World War II, the Navajo language was understood by fewer than 30 non-Navajos. Approximately 400 Navajo code talkers took part in every assault the US Marines conducted in the Pacific from 1942 to 1945. They served in all six Marine divisions, Marine Raider battalions, and Marine parachute units, transmitting messages by telephone and radio in their native language. The code was never broken by the Japanese, and its security has been credited with contributing significantly to the capture of Iwo Jima in 1945. The following are two recordings from code talker Dan Akee. Language: English. Narrator: Dan Akee. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/live/000580/bk_live_000580_sample.mp3. Golf Rules: How to Not Win a Tournament , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 130min
There are only 34 official rules of golf, but it takes more than 20,000 words to make them unintelligible enough so that most golfers cannot understand them properly...so this book doesn't even try. Instead, Golf Rules: How to NOT Win a Tournament lays out many of the ways that pro golfers and others have found to be the correct way to receive penalty strokes and/or get disqualified. Included are numerous bone-headed mistakes that golfers you'll recognize have made, plus humorous golf quotes, an index of the actual rules, some history about the game, plus the author's allegedly witty comments about the game - including his suggestion for designing a perfect game of golf in which no errors (either intentional or unintentional) can be made. This book is an excellent gift for any golfer in the family (or the ex-family), and is a perfect listen for any plane or train trip. Written by Gene Grossman, author of the popular Peter Sharp Legal Mystery Series. When listening to this book, one will understand why Gene sees so many mysteries in the game of golf. ungekürzt. She's a good soul in search of honest fun.Josh Im has known Hazel since college, where her zany playfulness proved completely incompatible with his mellow restraint. From the first night they met-when she gracelessly threw up on his shoes-to when she sent him an unintelligible email while in a post-surgical haze, Josh has always thought of Hazel more as a spectacle than a peer. But now, ten years later, after a cheating girlfriend has turned his life upside down, going out with Hazel is a breath of fresh air.Not that Josh and Hazel date. At least, not each other. Because setting each other up on progressively terrible double blind dates means there's nothing between them...right?- Shop: buecher

Science in the Forest, Science in the Past (eBook, ePUB)
Science in the Forest, Science in the Past: Further Interdisciplinary Explorations comprises of papers from the second of two workshops involving a group of scholars united in the conviction that the great diversity of knowledge claims and practices for which we have evidence must be taken seriously in their own terms rather than by the yardstick of Western modernity. Bringing to bear social anthropology, history and philosophy of science, computer science, classics and sinology among other fields, they argue that the use of such dismissive labels as 'magic', 'superstition' and the 'irrational' masks rather than solves the problem and reject counsels of despair which assume or argue that radically alien beliefs are strictly unintelligible to outsiders and can be understood only from within the system in question. At the same time, they accept that how to proceed to a better understanding of the data in question poses a formidable challenge. Key problems identified in the inaugural workshop, whose proceedings were published in HAU: Journal of Ethnographic Theory (2019) and in HAU Books (2020), provided the basis for asking how obvious pitfalls might be avoided and a new or revised framework within which to pursue these problems proposed. The chapters in this book were originally published in Interdisciplinary Science Reviews.- Shop: buecher
