“What are the causes of the famine? The main reason for the catastrophe in Russian agriculture is the Soviet policy of collectivization. The prophecy of Paul Scheffer in 1920-30 that collectivization of agriculture would be the nemesis of Communism has come absolutely true.” (Gareth Jones)Famine - one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse in the Book of Revelation - continues to be one of the most crippling and destructive scourges of humanity. This inexorable affliction, traumatically fatal in the worst-case scenarios, has terrorized every single continent at some point throughout history, some more so than others. Perhaps the most famous was the notorious Irish Potato Famine of 1845, during which a noxious, fungus-like microorganism known as the “Phytophthora infestans” destroyed half of Ireland's potatoes and three-fourths of the crop in the following seven years, resulting in the deaths of 1.5 million and the forced migration of some two million citizens. The catastrophic Bengal Famine of 1943, which was precipitated by a dreadful cyclone and tidal waves the previous year, led to the deaths of an estimated seven million Bengalis. Among some of history’s famines, the Holodomor’s death toll is considerably lower than others, such as the the Chalisa and South India Famines between 1782 to 1784, which killed roughly 11 million people altogether, or the Chinese Famine of 1907, which claimed up to 25 million lives in northern China. The Holodomor, however, which ravaged Ukraine between 1932 and 1933, was not a natural occurrence, but a ghastly man-made famine brought about by Stalinist policies. When Ukraine was incorporated into the Soviet Union, communist ideology was enforced on every part of society, religion was effectively prohibited, and dissenters were sent to the Gulag prison camps. The church was an early target for the communists, as many buildings and religious icons were vandalized and believers were mocked. As awful ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Daniel Houle. Distinguished British historian Geoffrey Parker spent 15 years writing this ambitious history of the tumultuous 17th century, when nations were in the grip of what was known as the General Crisis. First published in 2013, Global Crisis reveals that freak weather was a key reason why the people of the 1600s lurched between droughts, famines, and countless wars. Plunging temperatures in the Little Ice Age combined with bad political decisions spelled disaster for people, places, and societies worldwide. Parker dubbed this a "fatal synergy" between climate change and arrogant rulers that made the crisis worse and last longer. Parker draws together historical records, groundbreaking science, and case studies to provide an epic account of how human affairs are inexorably tied to the environment - and adds urgency to the contemporary international debate on climate change. ungekürzt. They call it by a single name, but the beast has many heads and a thousand faces. It is the face of greed, the face of arrogance, the face of tyranny, of destruction, fear, aggression, and domination. Those whom it touches are destroyed and all who embrace it are devoured. Matthew 24, 6-7: And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in diverse places. This book is dedicated to those who have fought for us, laying down life and limb to save us from ourselves. They stand guard between the best and worst of mankind, both of which reside within each of us equally. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Mike Jackson. What if everything you have been told about the timing of the Rapture is wrong? The Bible teaches that Christians are not appointed to suffer wrath. But what if the first few years of the Tribulation are not God's wrath, but the wrath of Satan and the Antichrist? Revelation chapter 6 clearly says that God's wrath begins at some point after the midpoint of the Tribulation. That means Christians will be here for the first four or five years. In Wrath, the first in a three-book series, D. R. Roquemore follows a fictional family in Texas who discovers the truth about the Rapture. Their story begins a few months before the start of the Tribulation period and follows their attempts to survive the rise of the Antichrist and the subsequent wars and famines. ungekürzt. Jones grew up intending to be a minister, but after he was ordained and had his own church, he decided it was more important to go out and feed the needy, not just preach to people about being saved. He started by shipping surplus American wheat to Haiti, which led to developing a child-sponsorship program. For the last 28 years, Jones, his family and his staff have organized enormous relief efforts for some of the world's worst crises-Ethiopian famines, the Bosnian war, the Murrah building bombing, 9/11 and Katrina. Although Jones structures this as a memoir, starting with his idyllic boyhood in Bowling Green, Ky., and his first experiences preaching, his real focus is on the development of his organization Feed The Children. Even without its prominent endorsement from Rick Warren (The Purpose-Driven Life), this inspirational story should reach a wide audience. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Chris Fabry.
