Magick and the Bible: Is Magick Compatible with the Bible?: Bible Magick, Book 1 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 39min
This is volume one of the Bible Magick series. In this book we will discuss magick and some of its uses in the Bible. Often we are told that magick and the teachings of the Bible don't mix. We are warned time and time again that if we use magick we are breaking God's law. In this book, I will show you clearly that magick has been used in the Bible by divine command. This book is not a book on how to perform Bible magick, but rather that there is such a thing as Bible magic and that's it's okay to use the Bible for magical purposes. In future volumes, I will go into Bible magick practice itself. This book will serve as background that you will need before starting a biblical magic practice. Using the Bible for magick, although fairly common, is quite controversial. There are clear passages in the Bible that state magick of all kinds is forbidden. Yet, there are so many instances that God himself commands his followers to perform magickal acts. I am not talking about miracles, but He is actually commanding them to preform magick that you would find amongst other magicians of the day. In this book we will examine a few of these occurrences. We will also discuss why the Bible writers forbade magick as well. You won't want to miss that chapter. Let us begin. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Resheph. The Cooper Union Address: The History of the Speech That Helped Abraham Lincoln Win the Presidency , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 138min
Includes excerpts from the speech Includes reactions to the speech from newspaper reports and audience members "It is surely safe to assume that the [39] framers of the original Constitution and the [76] members of the Congress which framed the amendments thereto, taken together, do certainly include those who may be fairly called 'our fathers who framed the [g]overnment under which we live'. And so assuming, I defy any man to show that any one of them ever, in his whole life, declared that, in his understanding, any proper division of local from federal authority, or any part of the Constitution, forbade the [federal government] to control as to slavery in the federal territories." (Abraham Lincoln) "[O]ne of the most happiest and most convincing political arguments ever made in this [city] ... No man ever made such an impression on his first appeal to a [New York] audience." (Horace Greeley) After the Lincoln-Douglas debates made Lincoln a nationally recognized politician, Illinois papers began to mention Lincoln as a Republican candidate for president in 1859. Lincoln was humbled, though a bit dumbfounded. He thought himself more suited for the Senate, where he could orate and discuss ideas. Moreover, there were Republicans of much greater national prominence on the East Coast, particularly William Seward. Lacking any administrative experience, Lincoln wasn't sure he would enjoy being president, but even being considered was a great honor, and he quietly thought the idea over. In fact, Lincoln was still not considered a real option for the nomination until he delivered a speech at New York City's Cooper Union in February, 1860, just a few months before the Republicans' convention in May. ungekürzt. American Legends: The Life of Nat Turner , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 83min
In American history, there are few people as controversial or consequential as Nat Turner, who was one of millions of slaves in the South before the Civil War but ultimately led the nation's most notorious slave uprising. In August 1831, Turner led a rebellion that terrorized Virginia for several days, killing dozens of whites and freeing slaves as his band moved from plantation to plantation. The Richmond Enquirer reported, "A fanatic preacher by the name of Nat Turner (Gen. Nat Turner) who had been taught to read and write, and permitted to go about preaching in the country, was at the bottom of this infernal brigandage. He was artful, impudent and vindicative, without any cause or provocation, that could be assigned." Even after the uprising was put down, Turner evaded capture for a few months, and after he was captured, his "confessions" were taken down and published before he was executed. Virginia would put a total of 56 slaves to death for the uprising. The repercussions of Nat Turner's rebellion across the South cannot be overstated. The fear imposed by the uprising led states across the South to enforce even tougher codes on slaves; since Turner had been taught to read and write, states forbade slaves from being taught to read or assemble, and in the aftermath, whites also treated blacks even worse, with an estimated 200 blacks being killed in an outbreak of violence. But while Turner was demonized by whites and held out as a stereotype of what a typical slave might do if given the chance, he was lionized among other slaves and free blacks as providing an example "when the first should be last and the last should be first." The polarization helped harden opinions on both sides, paving the way for future events like John Brown's attempted rebellion at Harpers Ferry in 1859. American Legends: The Life of Nat Turner examines the life of one of America's most famous slaves. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Kila Kitu. Charlotte Perkins Gilman Classics Collection: The Yellow Wallpaper, Herland, and The Crux: (Annotated) with a Historical Introduction and a Study of Themes , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 811min
Unique to this title are: A historical introductionA study of the themes present in The Yellow Wallpaper, Herland, and The CruxYou may of course skip all of it and go straight to the main title if you do not want any spoilers and come back later to the beginning. Charlotte Perkins was born in 1860 in Connecticut. When she was a child, her father abandoned his wife and children, and she spent the rest of her childhood in poverty. Since her mother was not able to support the family, her aunts played a big part in her upbringing. Her schooling was erratic, and she attended seven different schools in just four years, finishing when she was 15. To prevent her children from getting hurt as she had been, her mother forbade them to make strong friendships or read fiction. Despite that, Gilman spent a lot of time in the local library studying ancient civilizations on her own. In her best-known work, The Yellow Wallpaper, Gilman writes about different kinds of oppression that women were exposed to at the time. Women were patronized and treated as mentally weak and fragile. They were believed to be prone to many “nervous conditions” and particularly hysteria. Herland is a utopian novel from 1915, written by feminist Charlotte Perkins Gilman in which exists an isolated society composed entirely of women, who reproduce via parthenogenesis (asexual reproduction). The result is an ideal social order: free of war, conflict, and domination. The Crux tells the story of a group of New England women who move west to start a boardinghouse for men in Colorado. It is an important early feminist work that brings forward complicated issues of gender, citizenship, eugenics, and frontier nationalism. Enjoy this timeless classic collection! ungekürzt.
