Over 100 paintings by artists based in Scotland in the early 19th Century, many influenced by the ground-breaking masterworks of James McNeil Whistler. A group of primarily Scottish artists (mainly William York Macgregor, Joseph Crawhall, George Henry, Edward Atkinson Hornel, Sir John Lavery and Arthur Melville), the Glasgow Boys were active around the turn of the 20th Century. Though they painted in a number of different styles, they are connected by their rejection of classic Victorian painting. Inspired by the luminous techniques of James McNeil Whistler, they harnessed Impressionistic brushwork and livid realism in their work, trying new methods and everyday settings to create stunning works of art. With over 100 images, and broad introduction, this is a fine addition to Flame Tree's ever-increasing series on painting and illustration, Masterpieces of Art.

Having noted the absence of happiness in human life, a group of scholars began to look for a way to attain this happiness. They could put their hands on the core of happiness by means of physical laws, so that they could reach it by following such a set of laws! However... Can worldly scientific laws, however great they may be, control happiness, make it surrender to them, and allow itself to be harnessed by their reins?! Are they able to help people actually taste happiness, so that the Earth will become a garden of paradise?! How great this achievement would be, if only they could do it! ungekürzt. Dahmer vs. Gacy (directed by Ford Austin) suggests the premise that DNA from serial killers could help the military develop an advantage in warfare: a cold, killing, human machine composed of evil DNA. This "Franken-warrior" would make modern warfare much more manageable. The problem is that live clones or "reproductions" of the original serial killers have to be kept in prison on the military facility while their DNA is being harnessed for this "higher purpose"! All havoc is wrought when an accidental laboratory fire allows two of those remorseless killers to escape on a killing spree. You know who those killers are! ungekürzt. Language: English. Drawing on a wealth of his own research and the work of other Lincoln scholars, Shenk reveals how the sixteenth president harnessed his depression to fuel his astonishing success. Lincoln found the solace and tactics he needed to deal with the nation's worst crisis in the "coping strategies" he developed over a lifetime of persevering through depressive episodes and personal tragedies. With empathy and authority gained from his own experience with depression, Shenk crafts a nuanced, revelatory account of Lincoln and his legacy, and in the process unveils a wholly new perspective on how our greatest president guided America through its greatest turmoil. ungekürzt. Verdi’s Falstaff repays careful study with real pleasure. It is opera’s happiest irony that the great Italian master should cap a career - distinguished for its blood-and-thunder tragic masterpieces - with the greatest comic opera in the Italian repertory. The genius of Shakespeare is harnessed (in a miracle of compression) by master-librettist Boito to give the 80-year-old Verdi a superb libretto, on which he lavished more wonderful tunes than most composers manage in a lifetime. Falstaff is the last great Italian comic opera and a worthy end to the tradition.PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your My Library section along with the audio.
