A 51-year-old pub landlord from Hammersmith, a DJ from Lambeth, a prize-winning novelist influenced by Charles Dickens, and Iain Sinclair, a young British intelligence officer: just four of the 10 contenders in 2018’s truly fabulous Ultimate Londoner competition. With a five-million-pound prize pot and an awards ceremony on the top floor of the Gherkin, it’s the last word in up-to-the-minute kudos. Or perhaps not. To begin with, no one has the faintest idea where it came from or how it garnered so much publicity. And not even the "candidates" themselves know how they were selected. For John Mordred, the intelligence officer, its unsolicited exposure is profoundly unwelcome. So far, so irritating. And inconvenient. But then the candidates start dying. As Mordred investigates, the truth slowly emerges. And it’s stranger and more shocking than anyone could possibly have imagined. The Ultimate Londoner: For whom will you vote? ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Howard J Davey. The counterterrorism battle shifts to Southeast Asia in the second explosive Superhawks thriller from Mack Maloney, best-selling author of the Wingman series. A terrorist cell with direct links to al-Qaeda's leader captures Singapore's Tonka Tower Hotel, one of the world's tallest skyscrapers. The terrorists contact dozens of news organizations so the world can witness its destruction. News copters surround the building just as the Superhawks enter - rappelling from military choppers, guns blazing, disarming the terrorists' bombs seconds before they detonate. It would seem that kudos are due, but the Superhawks are supposed to be top secret. The Pentagon bigwigs are steamed and send in a team of Navy SEALs to wrangle with the Superhawks. But al-Qaeda is hatching a new plot involving Stinger missiles. Can the Superhawks stop it in time? Or will the sprawling American military bureaucracy trip itself up before they even have a chance to try? ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Charles Lawrence. Since 1998, Steve Balderson has made 17 feature films. Looking back on these years of productivity, Steve has crafted a volume of invaluable perspective, tips, how-tos, and general philosophy about making independent films, no matter the budget, no matter the location.Balderson worries little about who he will offend. Instead, he focuses his attention on what it takes to be a productive filmmaker in an industry that is risk-averse and locked in a world where rigid process seems more important than creativity. This Kansas-born outsider has garnered awards, critical acclaim, and rave reviews globally, including one from Roger Ebert, who called him “brilliant.” His film Casserole Club is in the US Library of Congress permanent collection; Firecracker won numerous accolades in film festivals around the globe. And it goes on and on...These kudos notwithstanding, the real potency of this book is how Balderson’s beliefs about making films and working with people - whether they be Oscar-winning actors and Grammy-winning musicians, or the waitress “extra” in the restaurant - have been the fuel for this remarkable collection of successful motion pictures. Listen to it, and then, go make your film! ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Steve Balderson. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/215081/bk_acx0_215081_sample.mp3. Nicolette Scott is an archaeologist whose knowledge of early airplanes has won her kudos as an expert, a reputation for ignoring authority, and a job at the Smithsonian. Shortly after she begins working there, she is thrilled to be included in the museum's latest project. E-Group, a large pharmaceutical company, is equipping an expedition to a remote region of Alaska, where a Japanese "Val" bomber plane was shot down during World War II. It's a gamble, but the money is being provided, and if the small group of experts can locate the plane and somehow bring it back to Washington, it will be a coup - and a boost for Nicolette's career. Not long after the search begins, Nicolette is shocked to discover that there is a darker reason for E-Group's generous sponsorship. The expedition's real goal reaches all the way back to the great Spanish flu epidemic of 1918 - 1919, grimly nicknamed "the Spanish Lady," which killed millions around the world. The virus of this flu still exists in those few victims who are preserved in frozen ground - and once the pharmaceutical company learns that three World War I veterans searching Alaska for gold had died of the disease near the Val, they will do everything in their power to get their hands on the bodies. Unless Nicolette risks her own life to defuse E-Group's nefarious plan, the lives of hundreds of millions will be at stake. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Angela Brazil. A Lambda Literary Award winner1978: In a snowy Pennsylvania forest, Reid, a studious high school distance runner meets Everett, a privileged and capricious charmer. As their lives become intertwined, Reid is swept up in Everett’s adventurous world. When a near-fatal accident changes both their lives, Reid and Everett’s determination to keep their love alive faces obstacles of family, time, and distance.Praise for the book:"'Every Time I Think of You is a rare combination of delicacy and power, a story of 'the unbearable weight of first love' told with both innocence and urgency by its wise and charming adolescent narrator. It rekindled faded memories of the intensity of youthful desire - the mystery, the promise, the excitement, the disappointment. Intelligent, subtle, and compelling, Jim Provenzano’s novel is, most of all, audacious." (Andrew W. M. Beierle, author of First Person Plural)“The coming-of-age story gets a welcome and much needed shakeup in Jim Provenzano’s graceful and surprising novel about falling in love. Always going where you least expect it, the story is, by turns, heartbreaking and arousing, comic and introspective, familiar and altogether new. These are characters you’ll remember long after the last page." (Michael Thomas Ford, author of Full Circle and The Road Home)"Every Time I Think of You captures the joy of finding love for the first time, with all the sweetness, comedy, and tragedy that experience inevitably entails. And it does so with the audacity and brutal honesty to admit that, yes, even the broken and imperfect among us deserve to experience everything that life has to offer. Kudos to Provenzano for daring to show that disability and sexuality aren’t mutually exclusive, and that crips can be just as good in bed (or elsewhere) as their non-disabled counterparts.” (Ray Aguilera, former editor of Bent Voices) ungekürzt. (Karen Holt, O Magazine)"When asked, 'Betty, you never remarried! How can you live alone?' my answer is simple: my golden retriever, Pontiac, is my saving grace." (Betty White, actress and author)"Perhaps because my older sister was a collie, I am never more myself than when in the presence of a dog. Kudos to Allen and Linda for sharing the myriad ways dogs bring joy, healing, and gratitude into our lives." (Wendie Malick, actor and advocate)"These heartwarming stories of dogs and the women who love them solidify the fact that the animal-human bond is so unique and necessary for enhancing one's life. This is a unique book and fascinating story, where seven developmentally challenged adults go camping in the wilds in National Parks. The story is seen through the eyes of Dave, who somewhat volunteers to go along on the insane 10-day trip, and soon discovers he is the challenged one from his corporate world. He has little patience for anybody, including himself, and consistently thinks about losing Ray in the woods.Other than Dave, and Rachel the leader, the seven adults are aliens when it comes to camping, and learning how to get along with nature and each other and be exposed outside of their protected institutions. It is very entertaining and a joy to read for anyone who wants an escape from their lives, to be exposed to those with disabled minds and bodies, and with many side-splitting laughs. It slowly draws you into the characters and leaves you craving more. Praise for Camping with Aliens: LOVED IT! This is such a fun read. The plot is structurally sound and nimble. With top-notch writing and pitch-perfect pacing, this engaging, upbeat story is both enjoyable and informative. It'll tickle your funny bone and open your eyes. I didn't want it to end. Delightful! It's a wonderful concept! I personally worked with this population of special individuals for many years. Their personalities are as unique as any number of individuals and they have their way of doing things. I love the concept of the book because putting these special needs in one situation would be a very entertaining scenario. Kudos to the author for arriving here I think it has potential for any numbers of options.
