In 1865, a party of engineers toils in the Wyoming hills on a survey as dangerous as it is difficult: preparing the way for the Union Pacific Railroad. Soon he will marry beautiful Allie, a girl he rescued after her wagon train was raided by the Sioux. But Neale is outraged when he discovers corruption among the railroad construction companies. And when Allie is kidnapped by ruffians, he loses his will to succeed. Neale’s challenges heighten in Benton, a construction camp full of stragglers, parasites, and desperadoes. Coconut Cowboy , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 555min
Channeling his inner Easy Rider, Serge Storms saddles up for his most epic, lethal, and hilarious road trip ever as he revvs off to find the lost American dream...starting in the Florida Panhandle. Obsessed with the iconic '60s classic Easy Rider, encyclopedic Floridaphile, lovable serial killer, and movie buff extraordinaire Serge A. Storms devises his wildest plan yet: finish the journey begun by his freewheeling heroes, Captain America and Billy, tragically cut short by some shotgun-wielding rednecks. Setting a course for the Florida Panhandle, Captain Serge - with Coleman literally riding shotgun - mounts his classic motorcycle and hits the highway in search of the real America: the apple-pie-eating, freedom-swilling moms and pops of Main Street USA. But the America he finds in the rural burgs dotting the neck of the peninsula is a little bit different...and a whole lot weirder than anything Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper encountered. In a state where criminal politicians are more common than gators, Serge and Coleman discover one particular speed-trap locale so aggressively inept at corruption that investigators are baffled about where to start. Expect nothing less than madness, mayhem, ingenious homicides, and mind-altering pharmaceuticals when Serge and Coleman's path intersects with the Sunshine State's hyper-dysfunctional rusticity. Where's Jack Nicholson when you need him? ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Oliver Wyman. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/harp/004871/bk_harp_004871_sample.mp3. Dream Sutra: Perceiving Hidden Realms , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 359min
This audiobook chronicles the experiences of many people who were helped and healed, guided and communicated with by the dreamer within themselves - their spirit or astral body. The unifying thread between these many people was that they had a common Guru - someone who could travel out of the body at will, heal people and even provide insights into their future. The greatest attribute of this Guru was that he also molded his disciplines into Gurus, thereby attaining a universal status of a Mahaguru, i.e a teacher of Gurus. The fact that even 25 years after his death, this Mahaguru still communicates with and guides his devotees and disciples via their dreams lends itself to deepening our exploration of the spiritual realms as well as of after-death existence. The anecdotal content dotting this audiobook's landscape enables you to recognize the power of the dream language so that metaphorical leads into the metaphysical. The question is - are you ready to believe in the power of dreams? This audiobook will:Allow you to analyse various types of dreams and realise the reality of your subtle body.Experientially validate out-of-body, inter-dimensional travel.Ponder on whether destiny can be altered in the dream state and if dreams hold clues to the future.Guide you on dealing with dreams of death and the deceased.Explore the possibility of exhausting karmas in the dream state. ungekürzt. Native American Tribes: The History and Culture of the Mound Builders , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 80min
There being one of these [mounds] in my neighborhood, I wished to satisfy myself whether any, and which of these opinions [regarding the identity of the Mound Builders] were just. For this purpose I determined to open and examine it thoroughly. (Thomas Jefferson) In the 18th century, when Europeans first came upon the giant mounds and earthworks dotting the North American landscape, they couldn't imagine that the Native Americans they came into contact with were capable of producing such advanced technology and masterful engineering. In fact, when President George Washington sent adventurer and military strategist Rufus Putnam to survey the land at the convergence of the Ohio and Muskingum Rivers in southeastern Ohio for settlement, Putnam reported that he'd discovered an impressive walled earthwork complex near present-day Marietta, which was obviously the breastwork of an ancient fortress built by some long-forgotten ancient civilization. Like others of his time, Putnam couldn't conceive that indigenous Americans had at one time reached an advanced level of cultural and technical sophistication. As detailed by Thomas Jefferson in his 1783 book Notes on the State of Virginia, the future American president began to excavate a mound near Monticello, his Virginia estate, around 1780. He noted, "I determined to open and examine it thoroughly. It was situated on the low grounds of the Rivanna [River], about two miles above its principal fork, and opposite to some hills, on which had been an Indian town. It was of a spheroidical form, of about 40 feet diameter at the base." ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: James Weippert. Adaptation: Book I , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 495min
Carmella was still a teen when the Motherships first appeared dotting the skies over the Earth. For years the world tried to normalize while the silent Motherships hovered. And then they arrived, promising that they meant no harm. But within 10 years, 80% of the world's population would be wiped out. Including everyone that Carmella loved. The "blobs" took those that survived to another planet called Earth Two. But Carmella was an Earthling and she would kill the hated monsters that had destroyed her world before she would allow them to take her. Carmella settled into a lonely existence on the now desolate earth - all alone except for her wolf. And then she sees it hiding, watching her - maybe to capture her and remove her from the only thing that she can still call her own - her world. But Bilal is not like the other Centaurians. He is fully aware that he will never be like the humans that he's grown up with. Earth is the only home he knows and he feels that he is just as much an Earthling as any human. Shunned by his own kind, Bilal travels the Earth trying to capture an essence of the life that he could never be a part of and a world that would never accept him. When he sees the black woman living all alone, his curiosity gets the best of him. He cannot stop himself from watching her and secretly growing more attached to the human. Bilal's quest to become human brings him to a decision that will forever change the course of human-kind. In an attempt to ease the woman's loneliness - or perhaps a need to recreate himself - Bilal impregnates the woman with his Alien DNA. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Steven Jay Cohen. Bibi , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 1126min
A deeply reported biography of the scandal-plagued Israeli prime minister, showing that we cannot understand Israel - its history, present, and future - without first understanding the life and worldview of the man who leads it Benjamin Netanyahu is embroiled in numerous scandals, all of his own making, and may soon be ousted from the office he has held longer than any prior Israeli Prime Minister outside of David Ben Gurion. But Bibi, as he is known by friend and foe alike, is no stranger to controversy. For many in Israel and elsewhere, he is an embarrassment, a threat to democracy, even a precursor to Donald Trump. He nevertheless continues to dominate Israeli public life - and he may yet survive his current crises, the most challenging of his career. How can we explain Netanyahu's rise, his hold on Israeli politics, and his outsized role on the world's stage? In Bibi, the Haaretz journalist Anshel Pfeffer argues that we must view Netanyahu as representing the triumph of the underdogs in the Zionist enterprise. Born in 1949, one year after the state of Israel itself, Netanyahu came of age in a nation dominated by liberal, secular Zionists. Yet Netanyahu's grandfather and father bequeathed to him a brand of Zionism integrating Jewish nationalism and religious traditionalism, and he identified with the groups at the margins of Israeli society: right-wing Revisionists, orthodox, Mizrahi Jews, and small-time professionals living in the new towns and cities dotting the Israeli landscape. Netanyahu cultivated each faction individually and then fused them into a coalition that has frequently proven unstoppable in Israeli politics. Netanyahu is also a child of America, where he spent many years as a young man, and where he learned the techniques of modern political campaigns as well as the necessity of controlling the media cycle. The product of the affluent East Coast Jewish community and the Reagan era, Netanyahu's politics a ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Paul Boehmer. Anguilla Travel Adventures , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 180min
The continually expanding popularity of Anguilla, especially with the rich and famous, has caught everyone by surprise. After all, at first glance Anguilla looks to be nothing special. It is a long, narrow, flat island, 16 miles long by three miles wide, with constant droughts and a notable absence of the lush rainforests, beautiful mountains, rushing rivers, or deep canyons that normally provide all the activities tourists clamor for. But Anguilla's trump card is its beaches. Spectacular even in this region, where above-average beaches are the norm, Anguilla's wide swaths of sparkling white sand and bright turquoise waters teeming with tropical fish are indeed something special. It is a point well taken by island planners and developers, who have built luxury resorts on those beaches. Many of those resorts quickly qualified as prime hotels of the world. Properties like Cap Juluca, CuisinArt, and Malliouhana are routinely ranked on the top of the best lists in Caribbean Travel Life, Conde Nast Traveler, and Travel and Leisure. Besotted visitors have created a market for luxury villa and home sales that have developers madly working to provide choices for them. Covecastles and Altamer were among the first individual-owner villas; their units are sold and are now available for vacation rentals. They have since been joined by other impressive developments, among them the St. Regis Temenos, the Viceroy, and Cerulean, and there are a number of private individual villas dotting the landscape all over the island. These new homes not only add to the available rooms for visitors but also provide a significant boost to the local economy. This is the best guide to Anguilla, excerpted from our extensive guide to all of the Leeward Islands, complete with details on where to stay, where to eat, nightlife, and all activities. ungekürzt. Languedoc-Roussillon: Carcassonne, Narbonne, Montpelier, Nîmes, Perpignan: Another World Travel Adventures , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 251min
The Languedoc is a hidden jewel of Europe; the most discriminating tourists are delighted to discover it. The area has many of the same traits that endear people to neighboring Provence: a warm coastline, outdoor markets, picturesque hillside villages, gourmet dining, and vineyards dotting the landscape. Yet Provence is the one with the reputation that causes tourists to flock there. Provence's popularity is largely thanks to books such as A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle. Make no mistake. The Languedoc-Roussillon is as enchanting, if not more so, as its trendier neighbor. Perhaps it's a crisp, dewy morning that inspires you to make a dawn stroll to a bakery. Maybe you catch a whiff of some intangible, indescribable smell reminiscent of a mountaintop in the Languedoc. It could even be a dream in which you were there, only to wake longing to return. The Languedoc has a certain immeasurable quality to it. Fond memories cling to you well after you return home. The Languedoc can suit almost any traveler's tastes. It is not densely populated, and there are many rural outposts for anyone who desires a retreat from the bustle of the big city. Those who prefer to be in the thick of things, however, have the option of visiting the region's larger cities, such as Carcassonne, Montpellier, or Perpignan. There are beaches, mountains, valleys, and the Canal du Midi. There are medieval villages, ancient Roman ruins, Cathar strongholds, and stately cathedrals. Any visit must feature a sampling of the local cuisine, which is delectable. The ancient village of Carcassonne has many features to be commended. The best feature is La Cite, the old fortified city that is entirely surrounded by ramparts. Inside, there are museums, cafes, and souvenir shops selling medieval tapestries and Cathar figurines. Montpellier, in the Herault, is the capital of the Languedoc. It is also home to a 13th-century medical school and museums devoted to medicine. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: James Sasser.
