Krejcir: Business As Usual , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 469min
A powerful Czech multimillionaire, Radovan Krejcir fled his home country shortly after his arrest in 2005 on charges of fraud. He arrived on South Africa’s shores in 2007, travelling under a fake name with a false passport, and avoiding extradition through pay offs. Krejcir fast began to make a name for himself within South Africa’s underworld, but it was the murder of Teazer’s boss Lolly Jackson in 2010 that brought his name to public attention. After three years and 10 more deaths, Krejcir was finally arrested on charges of kidnapping and attempted murder. Yet it seems that even a jail cell is not enough to subdue the criminal kingpin: it is just business as usual. In Krejcir, Angelique Serrao reveals why we have not yet heard the last of the worst crime boss South Africa has ever seen. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Sarah Jane Woodward. The Four Just Men , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 256min
When Foreign Secretary Sir Philip Ramon receives a threatening, greenish-grey letter signed 'Four Just Men', he remains determined to see his Aliens Extradition Bill made law. A device in the members' smoke room and a sudden magnesium flash that could easily have been nitro-glycerin leave Scotland Yard baffled. Even Fleet Street cannot identify the illusive Manfred, Gonsalez, Pioccart, and Thery, the Four Just Men dedicated to punishing by death those whom conventional justice can not touch.Edgar Wallace was a soldier, poet, war correspondent, reporter, author, and playwright. He wrote more than 170 books, which have been translated into 28 languages, and sales of which have exceeded 50 million copies. Over 160 films have been made from his books, more than any other author. He was working on the original screenplay for King Kong when he died. In the 1920s, one of Wallace's many publishers claimed that a quarter of all books read in England were written by him. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Walter Covell. The Four Just Men , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 271min
Edgar Wallace’s classic vigilante detective series The Four Just Men – involving four wealthy and resourceful individuals determined to take the law into their own hands – has maintained its popularity for over a century. It began with The Four Just Men in 1905, and was followed by five other books recounting further adventures, the Walter Ford film (1939), and a TV series (1959-60). In this, the opening volume, the mysterious Four Just Men punish by death those who are beyond the reach of the law. When Foreign Secretary Sir Philip Ramon’s proposed Aliens Extradition Bill threatens the safety of a Spanish resistance leader, the men warn Sir Philip that he must either withdraw the legislation or face death. This is a gripping novel in which the police struggle to protect Ramon and capture the men against the fast approaching deadline. Sino-British Negotiations and the Search for a Post-War Settlement, 1942-1949
The book is a systematic study of the China-Britain relationship during the 1942-1949 period with a particular focus on the two countries' discussions over both the 1943 Sino-British treaty and the discarded Sino-British commercial treaty, the future of Hong Kong, and the political status of Tibet. These were dominated by two underlying themes: the elimination of the British imperialist position in China and the establishment of an equal and reciprocal bilateral relationship. The negotiations started promisingly in 1942-1943, but, by 1949, had failed to reach a satisfactory settlement. Behind the failure lay a complex set of domestic considerations and external factors, including the powerful infl uence of the United States. Even after seven decades, the failure still has a contemporary impact. Recent Sino-British disputes over the Hong Kong Anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill Movement and incessant Indo-Chinese confl icts and skirmishes over their unsettled borders all attest to the enduring legacy of the years 1942-1949 as setting the scene for subsequent Sino-British and Sino-Indian relations. From this perspective, the history has never left us.- Shop: buecher
