An audacious, darkly glittering novel set in the eerie days of civilization’s collapse, Station Eleven tells the spellbinding story of a Hollywood star, his would-be savior, and a nomadic group of actors roaming the scattered outposts of the Great Lakes region, risking everything for art and humanity. One snowy night Arthur Leander, a famous actor, has a heart attack onstage during a production of King Lear. Jeevan Chaudhary, a paparazzo-turned-EMT, is in the audience and leaps to his aid. A child actress named Kirsten Raymonde watches in horror as Jeevan performs CPR, pumping Arthur's chest as the curtain drops, but Arthur is dead. That same night, as Jeevan walks home from the theater, a terrible flu begins to spread. Hospitals are flooded and Jeevan and his brother barricade themselves inside an apartment, watching out the window as cars clog the highways, gunshots ring out, and life disintegrates around them. Fifteen years later, Kirsten is an actress with the Traveling Symphony. Together, this small troupe moves between the settlements of an altered world, performing Shakespeare and music for scattered communities of survivors. Written on their caravan, and tattooed on Kirsten's arm is a line from Star Trek: "Because survival is insufficient." But when they arrive in St. Deborah by the Water, they encounter a violent prophet who digs graves for anyone who dares to leave. Spanning decades, moving back and forth in time, and vividly depicting life before and after the pandemic, this suspenseful, elegiac novel is rife with beauty. As Arthur falls in and out of love, as Jeevan watches the newscasters say their final good-byes, and as Kirsten finds herself caught in the crosshairs of the prophet, we see the strange twists of fate that connect them all. A novel of art, memory, and ambition, Station Eleven tells a story about the relationships that sustain us, the ephemeral nature of fame, and the beauty of the world ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Kirsten Potter. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/rand/003939/bk_rand_003939_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.

The reality behind reality TV! Hollywood's favorite mom-star tells it like it is. Tori Spelling is the first to admit that the "reality" behind her popular television show, Tori & Dean, isn't always real. Not even Star magazine could invent the true chaos that happens behind the scenes. Luckily, Tori is famously honest and self-deprecatingly funny when it comes to her personal life - she's always "Spelling it like it is". Life is never boring at Tori's house, but since the release of her New York Times best-selling memoirs sTORI Telling, Mommywood, and Uncharted terriTORI, things have been especially unpredictable: Finding out she was pregnant with her third baby after nearly vomiting live on the Home Shopping Network Trying to hide her fourth pregnancy so soon after giving birth (as her stylist said, "Who would be that crazy?") Being rescued from a paparazzo by a mom lynch mob Stalking her celebrity neighbor And then there was allowing cameras to film every personal detail of her life - from the most challenging time in her marriage to the only time in six years when she really felt as though those cameras invaded her privacy. Tori shares these stories and many more with the usual humor, candor, and down-to-earth charm that her fans love. She also writes openly about her biggest challenges: terrifying health problems; her guilt over missing baby Hattie's early months because she was in the hospital on bed rest; her struggles (and failures) to live within her means after growing up in opulence; the discovery that she has a lot in common with her late mega-producer father, Aaron Spelling; and how she fell in love with Dean all over again. (Hint: it didn't happen at their vow-renewal ceremony.) After years of revealing her everyday antics on-screen, Tori's life is still full of surprises. Slowing down long enough to enjoy them? Now that's a ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Tori Spelling. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/adbl/016687/bk_adbl_016687_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.

Here's an offbeat and hilarious story of voyeurism, obsession, and relationships, both real and imaginary, from the best-selling author of High Maintenance and Going Down. Since she was 13, one of the few things New York novelist Rebekah Kettle has been able to count on is the thrill of seeing a new movie by world-renowned filmmaker Arthur Weeman every fall. Now 33, the humor and poignancy of Weeman's singular movies have inextricably merged with her own memories, to the point that she has begun writing him letters under the guise of her 13-year-old self, and her teenage admiration has become a full-blown obsession. So when Rebekah steps back and takes stock of her life, she isn't happy with what she finds: she's unlucky in love, hopelessly stalled in her work, and unable to get over the past. It's time for Rebekah to take action. She starts a relationship with Isaac Myman, a quirky paparazzo with whom she's suspiciously compatible. And she befriends Mrs. Williams, an eccentric older woman who needs her companionship. It seems things are looking up. But, just as unexpectedly, Rebekah discovers that Mrs. Williams' apartment has the most coveted view on the Upper East Side: straight into Arthur Weeman's town house, where she can watch the object of her obsession's life displayed like a silent movie. Weeman has always been a fixture on the rumor mill, but Rebekah has been his staunchest defender - until she sees the evidence for herself and has to ask herself some questions. Does she give her new love a chance at the scoop of a lifetime, a photo of the compromised Weeman, or does she remain loyal to the man whose films have defined her life? Riotously funny and astonishingly moving, Little Stalker is a bold, daring, twisted, and lovable novel that could have come only from a literary voice as sharp and original as Jennifer Belle's. ungekürzt. A grim picture. Joseph Creed is a paparazzo, one of that un-illustrious band of photographers whose sole purpose in life is to chase and harass celebrities for candid shots, preferably of the seedier kind. Creed, himself, is a sleaze of the first order, but good at his job; nothing will stop him getting the right shot. He's a coward, a liar and a would-be blackmailer. He's also a womaniser and a divorcée. He looks a little like the actor Mickey Rourke (and is aware of it). After the funeral ceremony of a major Hollywood actress, he photographs a man of ravaged appearance desecrating the grave. Creed himself is observed and there follows a series of horrific events designed to intimidate him into handing over the film. The person he has photographed bears a remarkable resemblance to a man hanged in the 1930s for murder and the mutilation of children. Creed eventually discovers his antagonists are the Fallen Angels of Europe, whose origins can be traced to Biblical sources. Their powers are waning, the centuries and the evil they have perpetrated have taken their toll. The demons are weary. Endlich!
