Corpse Suzette: Savannah Reid, Book 11 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 486min
Despite New Year's resolutions to avoid irritating houseguests and nerve-wracking cases, California P.I. Savannah Reid finds herself playing host to her assistant's cranky cousin - in town for an unwanted makeover at a local spa - before the Christmas fudge is even gone. But when the spa's renowned plastic surgeon goes missing, murder's on the menu. And for Savannah, it's in for a penny, in for a pound.... Voluptuous and proud of it, Savannah can't understand why any woman would diet in pursuit of beauty, never mind go under the knife. She likes herself just fine the way she is...and so does her detective buddy, Dirk. Too bad her houseguest isn't as content. Abigail is livid that her cousin, Tammy, won her an extreme makeover, complete with plastic surgery, at Emerge, San Carmelita's new luxury spa. Abigail's daunting enough when she's ranting about social pressures and medical butchery, but when she suddenly puts on a cooperative smile Savannah gets really nervous.... There's barely time to worry about it when Dirk brings her in on his latest case. One of Emerge's owners, renowned plastic surgeon Suzette Du Bois, is missing. And quicker than you can say Botox, Sergio D'Allessandro, Suzette's business partner and ex-husband, hires Savannah to find Suzette before the cops do. As she broadens her search, Savannah begins to realize that some of the employees at this temple of perfection harbor serious inner flaws. There's Myrna Cooper, Emerge's receptionist, whose permanently surprised expression proves she fears aging almost as much as she despises her bosses. And publicist Devon Wright, Sergio's not-so-secret lover, was overheard threatening Suzette just before the doc disappeared. Add to the mix Jeremy Lawrence, Emerge's disgruntled and aggressively ambitious style consultant, and the picture is far from pretty. When one of the suspects turns up dead, Savannah's had enough. She'd love nothing more than to wrap up this case, kick out her guest, and ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Dina Pearlman. She Tricked Me into It , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 30min, (USK 18)
The aggravation and tension of sibling rivalry explode in the most pleasurable way. It's so hard being the youngest one in the household, especially when picked on by the sassy, teasing older female living in the bedroom just next door. Lauren's always sticking her nose where it doesn't belong, ranting and raving, taunting and tormenting, and he wishes she never became part of the household at all. Life would be better without Lauren always in his business and giving him a hard time; he couldn't possibly learn to actually appreciate her presence or all the things his older sib could teach him. That would take some monumental event - first-time experience - his young mind can't possibly fathom... until it happens. When his parents go out for the evening, Lauren's usual harassment begins. She invades his room, pokes around on his computer, and asks all kinds of questions about the girl at school he likes. The only thing he can count on from Lauren is her incessant invasion of his privacy and her keen ability to embarrass the heck out of him. Her questions are annoyingly personal, her lack of shyness shocks him nearly to death when she suddenly appears from behind the shower curtain all wet and fully revealed, and when she discovers just how uncomfortable and inexperienced he is when it comes to the opposite sex, Lauren goes on a full rampage, intending to teach him a thing or two. He doesn't want to learn; Lauren can't possibly have anything good to teach him - or show him. But when she takes it upon herself to force a lesson on female upper anatomy, he can't help his bodily reaction. And Lauren, of course, knows just how to deal with that too. It may just be all a big game to her, but he is the ultimate winner. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Me. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/025826/bk_acx0_025826_sample.mp3. And How Are You, Dr. Sacks?
The untold story of Dr. Oliver Sacks, his own most singular patient. The author Lawrence Weschler began spending time with Oliver Sacks in the early 1980s, when he set out to profile the neurologist for his own new employer, The New Yorker. Almost a decade earlier, Dr. Sacks had published his masterpiece Awakenings--the account of his long-dormant patients miraculous but troubling return to life in a Bronx hospital ward. But the book had hardly been an immediate success, and the rumpled clinician was still largely unknown. Over the ensuing four years, the two men worked closely together until, for wracking personal reasons, Sacks asked Weschler to abandon the profile, a request to which Weschler acceded. The two remained close friends, however, across the next thirty years and then, just as Sacks was dying, he urged Weschler to take up the project once again. This book is the result of that entreaty. Weschler sets Sackss brilliant table talk and extravagant personality in vivid relief, casting himself as a beanpole Sancho to Sackss capacious Quixote. We see Sacks rowing and ranting and caring deeply; composing the essays that would form The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat; recalling his turbulent drug-fueled younger days; helping his patients and exhausting his friends; and waging intellectual war against a medical and scientific establishment that failed to address his greatest concern: the spontaneous specificity of the individual human soul. And all the while he is pouring out a stream of glorious, ribald, hilarious, and often profound conversation that establishes him as one of the great talkers of the age. Here is the definitive portrait of Sacks as our preeminent romantic scientist, a self-described clinical ontologist whose entire practice revolved around the single fundamental question he effectively asked each of his patients: How are you? Which is to say, How do you be? A question which Weschler, with this book, turns back on the good doctor himself.- Shop: buecher

The Looters , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 681min
From the author of The New York Times number one best-selling novel The Carpetbaggers comes the story of Madison Dupre, a young and ambitious art curator who is fixated on reaching the top of the rarefied world of priceless antiquities - an insular playground of the mega-rich, the super-privileged and even the occasional money launderer. This glamorous world is also a world of unimaginable ugliness and ego. As curator of the prestigious Piedmont Collection, Madison is a rising star who knows how to ruthlessly play the game. She's there to win, no matter what it takes. When the crown jewel for the museum comes up for auction, the death mask of an ancient queen known as "The Whore of Babylon", she's determined to acquire it - and does, during a highly charged auction with the world watching. During the celebratory press conference, a mysterious Iraqi erupts, claiming Navy Seals and Hussein's Republican Guard looted the mask from the National Museum during the fall of Baghdad. Though dismissed as the ranting of a lunatic, Madison and her employer understand the gravity of the accusation: If true, Madison committed a felony by buying stolen goods and lost a fortune. Madison quickly realizes she's being framed. But by whom? Why? And when the Iraqi is murdered, Madison becomes the prime suspect. Grasping that she's been betrayed by "friends" and is now being stalked by killers, she runs - determined to clear her name. Madison finds herself on an international odyssey spinning in a vortex of deceit and falls into the arms of a mercenary who just might be able to keep her alive as she fights for her life. Assassinating Adolf Hitler: The History of the Failed Conspiracies and Attempts to Kill the Nazi Dictator , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 100min
Like other totalitarian leaders, Adolf Hitler kept an iron grip on power in part by making sure nobody else could attain too much of it, leading to purges of high-ranking officials in the Nazi party. Of these purges, the most notorious was the Night of the Long Knives, a purge in the summer of 1934 that came about when Hitler ordered the surprise executions of several dozen leaders of the SA. Nonetheless, for the most part Hitler enjoyed great popularity among both the members of the Wehrmacht and ordinary Germans during his rule over the Third Reich between 1934 and 1945. To many, he appeared to be the spirit of a revived, powerful Germany, shaking off the hardship and humiliation imprudently inflicted by the victorious western Allies at the end of World War I. His strangely magnetic, ranting speeches struck a chord with millions, creating iron loyalty in many of those who followed the commands of his dictatorship. From the very beginning, however, others held a different view of the newly constituted Third Reich's Fuhrer. Though the concept of tyrannicide remained so foreign to German culture that the word only appeared in the national language after World War II, as the war progressed and Germany's fortunes faltered, more individuals and groups plotted the death of Hitler. The climax of these efforts took place on July 20th, 1944, but Hitler himself recognized his eminence and notoriety as factors making him the target of assassination attempts years earlier. Though his own stated figure of seven attempts to kill him falls on the low end of the actual number of quietly thwarted plots, the Fuhrer knew he was a target and deliberately acted in an elusive fashion. Most assassination schemes against the German dictator centered on the use of bombs to kill him. Such attacks, of course, theoretically increased the chances of killing Hitler, since a blast would create a far larger "fatal area" than a bullet or even a spray of bullets from a su ungekürzt.
