Wind of Change
Through the making of this CD I have learned a very important truth - And that is - That life is in fact a wonderful journey and not a destination - With many twists & turns and peaks and valleys. Through which we learn many valuable lessons. I know now that patience is truly a virtue and that when one door closes another will be opened for us. No matter what our plans may be in this walk of life - there is only One True Plan and that is the plan that our Dear Lord has laid out for each of us. So for this wonderful journey I thank Him and give Him all the praise and glory. To all of those that I have met along the way and those whom have walked with me I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I was born on Chanute AFB in Rantoul Illinois where my father served in the United States Air Force. The one thing I remember about Illinois was the tornado that tore through our neighborhood. I was very young & I remember hanging onto my Mothers leg as she looked out of the window. Fortunately the tree that fell landed on my parent's car and not our house. I also remember my Dad playing his candy apple red electric guitar and singing. My Mom had a pair of candy apple red high heels that matched my Dads guitar. I discovered those a few years later when I was a little older. I guess that is where I got my shoe fetish from and my love for music & singing! My Dad was sent to Vietnam for a year and my Mom, sister & I lived for a year with my Grandparents in Virginia. What great memories! They lived in the country so that was new to me & my sister. We had so much to do. After my Dad returned we moved to Maryland where my Dad was stationed at Andrews AFB. We lived there until I was eight years old. We actually lived there for 5 years - Longer than anywhere. I remember the drive-in movie theatre across the street that my sister & friends used to watch from our yard or from our bedroom window and if we were real quit you could actually hear what they were saying. It was a good thing that the Movies were mostly 'G' rated back then! This was the only place where we had the chance to live next to family. I had two sets of Aunts & Uncles that lived there along with my cousins. My Brother was also born there. I remember all of our family gatherings with aunts & uncles (my uncle played the guitar & sang too) & cousins where playing music seemed to leave a warm feeling in my heart. Those were special times in my life! During Dads 20 years of service my mom, brother, sister & I moved with him from place to place just about every 3 years until I was in high school. We lived in Japan (Itazuki AFB), Okinawa (Kadena AFB) & upstate New York (Plattsburg AFB). I would not trade those life experiences for anything in the world however my fondest & most cherished memories were the times that we spent visiting our family in Southwest Virginia - helping my Grandmas in their gardens, picking blackberries, stringing green beans, churning butter, watching my Grandma's can & make jellies & jams & making biscuits was so special to me. I believe I even slopped the hogs & attempted to milk a cow! Family is the most precious gift one can possess. The song 'The Whippoorwill' & 'I Do Love You' were inspired by my Grandparents. Since coming to Galax, VA (Bluegrass & Old Time Music capitol of the world) in 1985 I have had the opportunity to meet some of the most wonderful & talented people in a community where music truly is the Heart & Soul. For those friendships & all of their inspiration - I am so grateful & thank them from the bottom of my heart - These are original songs about Life, Love & Hope - Some Bluegrass, some Country and some Inspirational. Short Wave
My musical destiny was predetermined. I was born to share my music with you, the world. I have always known my destiny. The Beatles put me on the path I am traveling. My first used guitar cost $5.00. I am self-taught. Along the way I bought a Gibson Hummingbird and realized that song writing and composing were a part of me to share with the world. My release of this album is for you. Yours truly, FA ----------------- About... Paul & Short Wave, by Tim Gettig Paul Goss produced the title song to his album, Short Wave, shortly after some devastating hurricanes hit Florida in 2004. The song takes you into the drama experienced by those in the midst of the storm, as they temporarily lose contact with their loved ones outside of it's path. Paul has always captured contemporary issues to present with his keen insights into human nature. Other themes include political and economic issues, civil and human rights issues, as well as, common love relationships. Moral and ethical overtones blanket the whole of his creation. Paul offers a kind touch and acceptance of life as it confronts him. Regularly Paul is asked to entertain personally amongst the houseboats and yachts at the Marina where he docks his 50' houseboat. Evenings pass with thick music and fun, as the boats rock and roll on the Tennessee River. Paul plays for hours until well into the night, when most pass a good tip and note they'll be back again soon. These nights seem to go on forever. When his family reunions grasp his time, he entertains them around the pool under the soft, warm nights in Florida. Paul has a gift of entertaining both young and old alike. All dance together with happy smiles sharing their deep felt emotions of enjoyment and camaraderie. Old people dance as though they are young again, and the young dance with them as though they are on stage themselves appreciating Paul's rhythms and fancy stringing. If it's Beatles or Dylan or Black Crows that you like, Paul seems to have combined each into his own evolved attractive and pleasant grass roots rockin' style. The issues he chooses to write about remind one of the early days of rock-n-roll when most artist used their talents to promote their own political judgments and common sense suggestions. Paul packs so much into his songs, listening to them a dozen times provides a dozen new insights in the issues or stories he tells. His songs seem to get better the more you listen to them. Guided Imagery
A CD of 21st century chamber music compositions, Guided Imagery is a showcase of recent works by composer and pianist, Dan Campolieta. Dan's musical interests range from historically informed early music, to the most avant-garde, and everything in between. Having trained as both a classical organist and jazz pianist, his style of composition often fuses elements of both genres. -------------------------------- Guided Imagery (2011) started as an idea to write a work for my good friend and singer, Marques Jerrell Ruff, and to set the poetry of another beloved friend, Linda Beher, to music. Linda's poems are timeless, and she has the amazing ability to sit still, observe, and beautifully recount the simple moments of life. She handed me a stack of over fifty unpublished poems in the summer of 2010, and if I had the stamina I would have set all of them. I picked eight, which I thought told a story and which follow the changing of seasons. Linda's poetry takes the reader to a dream world full of vivid imagery through the use of metaphor, yet at it's essence is about commonplace human to human interactions, drawn from her own experience, or through the general human experience. I have decided that instead of looking at each poem as it's own "universe," I would set up a tonal landscape that would fit the entire work, and then use subtle changes in tonality and texture to follow the changes in mood within, and between, each poem. From the first measure, the piece takes on a minimalist tone. The piano part consists of a series of slowly progressing ostinati. I chose the oboe, an instrument with a long history in the Western classical tradition, to contribute to the piano osinati, and at times soar above the texture as a solo voice of it's own. The human voice presents the poetry in a speech rhythm often unrelated to the strict rhythmic patterns in the piano, but always agreeing in mode/scale. The voice part is, in a sense, a diatonic, chant-like recitation of the poetry while the harmonic landscape in the background reflects the underlying mood of the passage. I had more fun writing Seven Sketches for Clarinet Trio (2010) than almost any other piece I have written. As the title implies, each short movement is but a sketch of musical material. Each little piece is a flare that sparks and ends before any of the motifs develop. By restricting myself to make several musical statements, each less than three minutes, the challenge came in stringing them together to create a work which holds together. Pulling from classical, bebop, Latin, tango, and funk styles, the piece has the effect of walking through the hallway outside of practice rooms in a music school, sampling little snippets of music coming from each room.
