Ballades-Impromptus-Preludes
When Wolfram Schmitt-Leonardy's recording of the Preludes was first released in 2011, critics reached for the superlatives:'In his recording of Chopin's 24 Preludes, Wolfram Schmitt-Leonardy achieves a fusion of impassioned ardor and classical textual rigor... the best of Schmitt-Leonardy's Chopinadds up to a stimulating and compelling listening journey well worth traveling, even if you've heard these works hundreds of times.'(Jed Distler, Classics Today). Now the Preludes have been recoupled with new recordings of the Ballades andImpromptus, made in January 2015 and also made available within the latest version of Brilliant Classics' Chopin Edition (94660). With their more intricate structures and longer-form narratives, these works also respond to the sureness of touch and steady pulse that make Schmitt-Leonardy particularly acclaimed for his Brahms. Hebuilds the Ballades patiently and with awareness of the extrovert spirit identified by one of Chopin's contemporaries as 'animated by the strangeness of the Romantic world, sung in a melancholy tone, in a serious style, simple and natural in its expressions.'This latest release from one of the finest German pianists of his generation is sure to receive wide critical attention, not only inhis home country but internationally. Schmitt-Leonardy (b.1967) can boast among his teachers and mentors such luminaries ofthe piano world as Ciccolini, Ponti and Weissenberg. Critics such as Peter Cossé, Ingo Harden, Knut Franke, JeremySiepmann, Gregor Willmes, Ates Orga and others have praised his interpretations as 'astonishing, exquisite, electrifying, dazzling brilliant, as well as grippingly independent'.He is 'a virtuoso to the Russian manner born, but with a Classicist's sense of proportion, a multi-hued tonal palette which abjures only the ugly, and a propulsive rhythmicvocabulary which keeps you listening every note of the way.'This 2CD set contains the complete 4 Ballades, Impromptus and the Preludes Op. 28.The names of these genres were not invented by Chopin, but he gave them a wholly new, original and personal meaning and content. The Ballades are full bodied works in a free narrative form, building up the tension and drama from the contemplative lyrical beginnings to the highly passionate conclusions. The Impromptus are in free A-B-A form, and are a fusion ofthe Nocturne and Ballade style. The Preludes Op. 28 are the romantic answer to Bach's Preludes, each short piece a gem of refined and distilled emotions.Wolfram Schmitt-Leonardy is one of the finest German pianists of his generation. The recording of the Preludes received a 9/9 on Classicstoday, Jed Distler wrote: "he achieves a fusion of impassioned ardor and classical textual rigor... the best of Schmitt-Leonardy's Chopin adds up to a stimulating and compelling listening journey well worth traveling, even ifyou've heard these works hundreds of times". "astonishing, exquisite, electrifying, dazzling brilliant, as well as grippingly independent" (Ates Orga).- Shop: odax

Tsunami Project: Sky in the Morning
Creative Music Alliance is a circle of musicians active on the creative music scene in Atlanta, Georgia, all of whom are recording artists and many of whom had come into association with each other via Julie Dexter's Ketch-A-Vibe Tea Room. Responding with great enthusiasm to collectively contribute their talent, time, and energy via a recording effort to provide relief funding for victims of the December, 2004 Indonesian tsunami, these 17 musicians - Julie Dexter, Mausiki Scales, Kinah Boto, Venuseven, Ede Wright, Takana Miyamoto, Kebbi Williams, Russell Gunn, Jerome Crichton, Shanti Om, Fhena, Ali Barr, Anton Harris, Dashill Smith, Khari Simmons, Immanuel Zechariah - under the direction of Mamaniji Azanyah, have produced a compassionate and timeless tribute: Tsunami Project: Sky In The Morning CD. It is with a profound sense of gratitude, not merely for the excellence of each individual contribution but above all, for the highly enthusiastic response - without any hesitation - to rise to the challenge of this occasion. It is always a humbling experience to work in the midst of such awesome talent, and yet the patience, sensitivity, graciousness and sincerity demonstrated by everyone made it a most pleasant event. Some gems worthy of remembrance: Venuseven instantly creating angelic sounds from abstract concepts... and the absolute wonder that brought tears to Fhena's eyes and directed pen to paper when Julie and Shanti lifted their voices alongside Ingrid and Dee... Kinah Boto's casual announcement one minute before the recording was to begin: "Oh yeah, I just spoke to Kebbi this morning. He got back in town yesterday. You want me to call him? Russell Gunn's brilliance... Ede Wright's response to the role of the guitar: "Oh, you want ME to be the Tsunami!" Ben's response to Kebbi's sudden appearance, transcendent solo and sudden disappearance: "WHO was that cat!!!? To which Alex calmly responded: "Oh, you don't know Kebbi? (laughter...) Takana's absolutely humble, "Was that okay?" after rendering track upon track of keyboard work for which this language has no appropriate superlatives! Khari Simmons (Electric Bass), who came prepared to make a contribution and waited patiently until obligation to another studio date forced his departure. Finally, there are certain experiences which can only be attributed to the hand of Divine Providence working through Divine Inspiration to effect Divine Blessing. This Tsunami Project: Sky In the Morning is without doubt such an experience. Peace, Love, Blessings, Mamaniji Azanyah.- Shop: odax
