Lumberjack: A Real Man, Book 1 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 118min
He hasn't been with a woman in five years. She hasn't been with a real man...until now. Vivian I've had enough of the crap that goes along with living in the city. So I packed for a weeklong vacation in the mountains. Isolation in a cabin for the next seven days sounds like a good way to recoup and get my life back in order. After getting lost while hiking, I stumble upon a cabin that has me questioning whether to ask for help, or if I should brave staying the night in the woods. Jake I left everything behind years ago after the woman I was with betrayed me. Now I work as a lumberjack and live my life as a recluse. Being celibate for the last five years says a lot about my self-control, but I'm a man and have needs, and not giving into what I really want is hard as hell. But I can't let myself get close to anyone, not even for a few hours. Getting close is how I got screwed over before. As soon as I see Vivian, I know I have to have her. It's been forever since I've had a woman. Because of a storm rolling in, she'll have to stay with me overnight. We could do a lot of filthy things in that time. I pride myself on my control, but when it comes to Vivian, I don't know if I can keep my hands to myself. I know I can't. I have needs, and it's clear Vivian's in need of a real man to help her unwind. I can certainly help her in that department. Warning: If you're looking for a sappy, pull-your-heartstring kind of audiobook...this isn't it. If you want a short and dirty story featuring an all-around alpha hero who hasn't had a woman in years, and a heroine who'll find out what it's like to be with a real man...this might be for you. ungekürzt. Maker of Shadows , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 468min
Jack Mann, the author of Maker of Shadows and seven other novels starring Gregory George Gordon Green, known to most as "Gees" was actually a pseudonym for E. Charles Vivian, a well-known British author of supernatural, western, and detective novels. Making the Vivian pen-name even more interesting was the fact that it too was a pseudonym of Charles Henry Cannell, who wrote books, many about series characters, under numerous pen-names.Born in 1882, Cannell died in 1947. At the time, he had written over 80 books, ranging from westerns (as by "Barry Lynd") to lost race adventures The City of Wonder, Fields of Sleep. His Gees's novels were so popular that several of them published in hardcover in England were later serialized in Argosy magazine. As a young man, Cannell served as a British soldier in the Boer War. Afterwards, he worked for several years as a reporter for The Daily Telegraph newspaper. Deciding to become a novelist, Cannell switched to writing fiction in 1907.The "Gees" series were Vivian's most popular novels. The stories featured a young, somewhat naive, British detective Gregory George Gordeon Green, known as "Gees" and delve into his various cases, most of which involve the supernatural. In this story, Gees is recruited by Margaret Aylener, the head of a major Scottish family. Margaret has been battling most of her life against Gamel Macmorn, supposedly the descendent of foreign invaders who enslaved and murdered the Scots. No one in the area knows how old Macmorn really is, as he seemingly possesses the power to regenerate himself at certain times after which he returns to his home as "his son."Gees battles Macmorn and his ancient Druidic magic in a duel for the soul of Margaret Aylener's daughter, Helen. The evil Macmorn is not known as Maker of Shadows for nothing, and Gees find out just how true that menacing title really is. But Gees commands powers of his own… Read by Milton ungekürzt. Rock My Soul
Digipack. Vivian Vance Kelly was born into music - a grandfather sang Rhythm & Blues and gospel, a grandmother was a member of powerhouse gospel group The McCauley Singers, her father is the noted blues singer and guitarist Vance Kelly, and she herself was singing in church by the age of 4. She may have been interested in hip-hop as a youngster but soon she was working with her father. When he felt she was ready, she honed her talents with him in the blues clubs of her native Chicago and then refined them on the international stages of Europe. So, not only does she have a firm grounding in the music - and the slightly unconventional blues story means she can easily add individual, distinctive touches - but she also has a good understanding of what the blues is about: as she says, "what the blues means to me, it is the soulful tale of one's own experience, to which many people can relate. When someone can relate to a certain blues song, it makes a person get a certain joy as if the artist wrote it just for them. Blues is the mother of many types of music in America and is today still much alive." Certainly it is whilst Vivian is around. But Vivian is no hidebound traditionalist - maybe the audacious blues reworking of Hank Williams' country staple 'You Win Again' reveals that from the outset! - and here she displays all the influences of the confident, young, modern African-American blueswoman: "I chose the materials for my CD because they are situations that have been turning points in my life. What I mean by that, I have lived these songs, and after the experience, I've tried not to repeat it again. That is how the songs have been the turning point in my life. I would say that all of the songs are my favourites". The song selections are indeed revealing. Let's look at a few: Bobby Bland's 'Further On Up The Road' was one of the earliest hits of this most influential of soul-bluesmen, and Vivian's rocking treatment is a genuine crowd-pleaser. Her wistful version of Tyrone Davis' 1969 soul classic, 'Baby Can I Change My Mind', reminds us that this has long been a Windy City blues club favourite, and also that in Tyrone's music - as with Vivian's - the blues and soul strands are inextricably intertwined. Betty Wright's 'Clean Up Woman' is a nice example of Vivian's funky side, whilst Al Green's 'Love And Happiness', besides being a superb example of both Vivian's vocal talents and the band's considerable musicianship, underlines the influence of Memphis soul on the modern blues, the same comments apply to Vivian's excellent take on George Jackson's 'Last Two Dollars', best known from Johnnie Taylor - in the 80s the twin successes of Robert Cray and ZZ Hill, both using this type of sound, rejuvenated the blues, whilst 'Breaking Up Somebody's Home' reaffirms the southern element and is also a prime example of just what a huge influence Albert King (and yes, I checked - Vivian did get this from Albert's version) has been on just about every subsequent blues guitarist of note - even reaching across to southern Europe and Tiziano 'Red Rooster' Galli! Which seems like a good point to bring in Vivian's comments on the musicians here: "the musicians were great to work with. I've enjoyed those guys. They are wonderful people. But more than that, they are terrific musicians. I would love to continue working with them in the future." To close, I asked Vivian to define her approach: "I describe my music as being more on a bluesy soul level. Importantly, I will give you the blues with a lot of soul." I'm not going to argue with the lady herself! Norman Darwen (contributor: Blues & Rhythm, R2 (Rock 'N' Reel), Blues In Britain, Blues Matters!, Blues In the South, and others)- Shop: odax
