Caddie Woodlawn , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 382min
Newbery Medal Winner, 1936 No one would accuse 11-year-old Caddie Woodlawn of being dainty and ladylike. In spite of her mother’s best efforts, Caddie is as wild as the wind, playing freely and rambunctiously with her two brothers in the Wisconsin backwoods. There are rafts to build and trees to climb and pranks to play. Caddie especially likes to watch her friend Indian John build birchbark canoes at the river. Every day seems wide with possibility - as wide as the frontier. But living on the edge of civilization has its risks, too. And when Indians threaten to attack the settlers, it is Caddie’s resourcefulness and bravery that save the day. The author, Carol Ryrie Brink - granddaughter of the real Caddie Woodlawn - based her book on the true stories her grandmother used to tell her about growing up on the frontier. ungekürzt. The Pi-a-saw Bird: A Native American Indian Fantasy Horror , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 33min
In 1673 the first European explorers to travel down the Mississippi River spot on the high, sheer bluffs the painting of a huge, winged monster. Where does it come from? Why did somebody take the trouble and risk to paint it on the bluff face? The Indians told them the terrifying story of a man-eating, dragon-like creature, and the brave chief who killed it. This historical, Native American dragon fantasy short story previously published in FANTASTIC December 1975, and unavailable since then, until now. We know dragon stories and legends from Europe and Asia go back thousands of years. Did some such creature prey on people just north of modern-day St. Louis? A dragon in North America? The French explorers Pere Marquette and Joliet paddle their canoes down the Father of Waters, the first Europeans to journey through the middle of the newly discovered continent of North America. ungekürzt. Nathalia Buttface and the Embarrassing Camp Catastrophe: Nathalia Buttface , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 333min
The laugh-out-loud funny girl series returns - and Nat is more embarrassed than ever! From TV and radio comedy writing talent Nigel Smith. Nat's class is going on a weeklong field trip to hunt for fossils. Cue mouldy log cabins, potholing, map reading and other totally boring geography-related stuff - all the things that Nat hates...and Dad loves! Of course he volunteers to come along with the class as a parent helper. Normally Nat would strictly forbid Dad's attendance, but he's finally applied for a 'proper' job - teaching survival skills to juvenile delinquents - which she really wants him to get, as it will keep him busy and stop him interfering in her life! If all goes well on this trip, he'll definitely get the job. Nat just needs to keep Dad away from the canoes...and anything involving a zip wire.... Oh, and perhaps they shouldn't venture up the rather treacherous-looking Bleak Peak mountain during the rainiest storm of all time. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Clare Corbett. Sailing Alone Around the World , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 445min
Challenged by an expert who said it couldn’t be done, Joshua Slocum, a fearless New England sea captain, set out in April 1895 to prove that a man could sail alone around the world. A little over three years and forty-six thousand miles later, the proof was complete. This is Slocum’s own account of his remarkable adventures during the historic voyage of the Spray. Whether Slocum was more accomplished as a writer or sailor is hard to say. His writing style is fast paced, witty, and exhilarating, an absorbing match to his harrowing adventures - adventures that included being chased by Moorish pirates off Gibraltar; escaping a fleet of hostile canoes; being submerged by a great wave off the Patagonian coast; an encounter with Black Pedro, “the worst murderer in Tierra del Fuego”; and foiling a nocturnal attack by savages by strewing carpet tacks on the Spray’s deck. Captain Joshua Slocum (1844–1909) was the first person to circle the globe alone entirely by sea. This remarkable achievement made Slocum the most famous North American sailor of all time. ungekürzt. Fuegians
Fuegians are the indigenous inhabitants of Tierra del Fuego, at the southern tip of South America. In English, the term originally referred to the Yaghan people of Tierra del Fuego. In Spanish, the term fueguino can refer to any person from the archipelago. The indigenous Fuegians belonged to several tribes including the Ona (Selk'nam), Haush (Manek'enk), Yahgan (Yámana), and Alacaluf (Kawésqar). All of these tribes except the Selk'nam lived exclusively in coastal areas. The Yaghans and the Alacaluf traveled by canoes around the islands of the archipelago, while the coast dwelling Haush did not. The Selk'nam lived in the interior of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego and lived mainly by hunting guanacos. The Fuegian peoples spoke several distinct languages: both the Kawésqar language and the Yaghan language are considered language isolates, while the Selk'nams spoke a Chon language like the Tehuelches on the mainland. When Europeans, Chileans and Argentines studied and settled on the islands in the mid-19th century, they brought with them diseases such as measles and smallpox for which the Fuegians had no immunity.- Shop: buecher

Water Monsters South of the Border , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 248min
Cannibalistic snakes exceeding 100 feet in length that cause the Earth to tremble. Large cats with 12-inch fangs thought to be extinct. Sauropod dinosaurs that flip canoes. A half-octopus, half-shark creature that pulls boats into the abyss. Plesiosaurs swimming in glacial lakes. These are but a few of the monsters lurking in the waters of South and Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. What are we to make of the mermaid legends of South America? Could there be dinosaurs roaming the remote reaches of the Amazon? What are water tigers? Is the giant anaconda a mythical creature, or does it actually exist? Though many of these creatures are written off as mythical, might they be based something that lived in the remote past? Is it possible that many of the ancient monsters never went extinct? Michael explores these questions and many others in his work. However, some of the answers may be disturbing....Find out why David Hatcher Childress calls Water Monsters South of the Border a unique book and renowned cryptozoologist Loren Coleman placed it on his list of Top Ten Cryptozoology books of 2016."A truly fascinating read.... An intriguing and well-written study of lake monsters and shouldn't be missed!" (Liz Konkel, Readers' Favorite) ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Denver Michaels.
