Intermittent fasting is a quick way to drop weight if done correctly, however for long periods it can be dangerous. Early Christian monks, Christians, Buddhists, and followers of Islam have participated in intermittent fasting on a yearly basis. These religious people believe in this type of fasting to control their impulses. Brief periods of intermittent fasting allow the body to burn off excess calories utilizing stored foods as energy, thus causing waste to be expunged from the body. Yes, the body will poop, which is good, and it will remove any excess weight over time if done in short bursts. That is why this type of fasting can be beneficial to the body. ungekürzt. In this widely hailed book, NPR correspondent Tom Gjelten fuses the story of the Bacardi family and their famous rum business with Cuba's tumultuous experience over the last 150 years to produce a deeply entertaining historical narrative. The company Facundo Bacardi, launched in Cuba in 1862, brought worldwide fame to the island, and in the decades that followed, his Bacardi descendants participated in every aspect of Cuban life. With his intimate account of their struggles and adventures across five generations, Gjelten brings to life the larger story of Cuba's fight for freedom, its tortured relationship with America, the rise of Fidel Castro, and the violent division of the Cuban nation. ungekürzt. Innocence lost. Children play at war. Men and children play at war until they meet war or war meets them, and they find that war is not a game; those who have seen, smelled, and tasted it do not glorify war. Ambrose Bierce participated in one of the bloodiest wars in American history, and though he survived, the war haunted him the rest of his life. Today we have a name for the demon that haunts many of those "more fortunate" who survive: post-traumatic stress disorder. In World War I and World War II they called it shell-shocked. The battle of Chickamauga was surpassed in casualties only by the battle of Gettysburg. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: John Michaels. This book presents a radical reconceptualization of subject-focused and research-led teacher professional development. Drawing on the experiences of more than 50 high school teachers and technicians who participated in science-based research with their students, the author examines how this enables teachers to develop a 'Teacher Scientist' model of professional identity. Through active participation in research, science teachers and technicians can implement socially just approaches to education, where students' differences are valued and, through research, their social and academic development is supported. Central to the 'Teacher Scientist' identity is the development of, and sustained interaction with, complex and collaborative professional networks which include researchers, university-staff and teachers and students in other schools. In the context of persistent recruitment and retention challenges, the 'Teacher Scientist' model provides a research-led approach which may offer an alternative to strategies focused on financial incentives.
