Composed by Allan Loucks, and performed by Tin Ear. Movement 1: This energetic fanfare-like rondo starts the symphony, setting the pace for what's to come. Movement 2: The main themes of the symphony are developed, contrasted, and foreshadowed in this melodic triple fugue. Movement 3: From cloud-like tone-clusters, to fluid melodies, to frantic percussive passages, this expansive rondo-sonata movement explores a wide range of emotional interpretations.

Artist: Oren Masserman Album: Keepin' It Simple Review by Kevin Mathews Sometimes, there is something to be said about consistency in pop music. From album cover image to album title to music to lyrical content, singer-songwriter Oren Masserman has no problem getting his message across to anyone who will take the time to listen. The cover of Masserman's sophomore effort features a young boy climbing a coconut tree in the obvious pursuit of a prized coconut. The sky is golden and cloudy, the location is presumably somewhere on an island paradise, perhaps Hawaii? The album is appropriately called Keepin' It Simple as well! The fact that Masserman is a lifetime surfer completes the picture rather emphatically. A casual listen to Keepin' It Simple will probably raise comparisons in most folks' minds with the best-selling albums of fellow surfer dude Jack Johnson. Definitely, there is a similar easy-going, upbeat, positive vibe about Masserman's music that is highly reminiscent of Jack Johnson's very popular oeuvre. Older readers will no doubt recognize the indelible mark of Jimmy Buffet on the Masserman's entire 'island escapism' schtick. Remember, the word here is 'consistent,' as Masserman's songs never stray from the formula set out from the opening song 'Mango Kisses.' Instrumentation is stripped down, with acoustic guitars and ukeleles providing accompaniment and a multitude of percussive instruments keeping time whilst the melodies are uncomplicated enough to support natural harmonies. Lyrically, Masserman takes inspiration from his own life experience, i.e. a lifestyle of traveling, surfing and sailing. In other words, the good life. Certainly, it is impossible not to visualize sandy beaches, fruit drinks, sun-kissed tanned bodies when listening to the music on Keepin' It Simple. Masserman never claims to be anything except for what he is: an ukulele strumming surfer dude enjoying the easy life that he paints so vividly in his sunshine pop songs. As Masserman explains in his official bio, "There's a message, a vibe, a feeling that you get with this music. And it feels so good. This is life. This is what we have. This is what we do. We might as well be stoked while we're living. " How can one argue with such positivity? Keepin' It Simple - Eat your fruits and vegetables Star Christian Aherns Oren Masserman's is enjoying "Mango Kisses" off of his latest album release called, Keepin' It Simple. The U.S. Department of Agriculture should be placing the nourishing album on the food pyramid. The iTunes version is the perfect complement to the summer season. The Southern Californian import aka Masserman fits perfectly in the Hawaiian music scene. The ocean is Oren's muse and he brings a certain charm listeners became familiar with by the release his début original album, Spread the Aloha. Oren has been a longtime member of the Surfrider Foundation and is apart of the Maui Chapter. The surfer/sailor and singer/songwriter molds all of his passions into his music. Due to the musician's geography and passions, he is able to use his gift as a forum to spread awareness. The track "Ocean Song" is a piece emphasizing the importance of taking care of the oceans both locally and internationally. The song "Smooth Sails" not only reflects his work with Trilogy, a sailing company, but a breezy song that allows your mind to drift. Most people are completely dependant on electronic devices and nothing is more liberating than going to the beach and hiding beneath the sun without a care in the world for the next forty minutes. His sailing song naturally fits into the Maui beach setting by uplifting the listener. The trio of songs which reappears off of Spread the Aloha definitely round out the vibe of the current album, Keepin' It Simple. "Baja Banditos," is a change of scenery from "Tonight With You," allowing other great coastal regions to be explored lyrically. The song which likely brings his fellow classmates back to memory lane is "8 Sunriver (When We Were Young)" because he is a long way from Southern California. Nonetheless, he never will forget his time in California surrounded by great friends and family. Masserman's enjoyable track "Tonight With You" instantly draws a picture anyone would want to be apart of. Hawaii is a tourist destination and a mushrooming musical scene all wrapped up in one great package. Keepin' It Simple reminds sightseers the importance of enjoying the breathtaking beaches without sounding redundant. Vacationers always enjoy the bar scene with the bevy of talented musicians who decorate the scene with their ukulele's in hand. Take a tour of Keepin' It Simple via iTunes or the website which has four complete tracks that will make you completely relax. When you are stressed out at work and need to unload remember to load your phone with a few simple songs reminding you of a beach somewhere instead of the recycled gust from the air- conditioning vent in your office. Day-trippers enjoy everything from snorkeling to luaus and Oren Masserman's latest album is your passport to a pyramid of nourishing soul food in the form of various lighthearted songs. If you are barefoot on a beach and about to light a bonfire then kick back with your iPod and enjoy simplifying your life. Oren says, "It's the music that reminds us all how to feel good, dream out loud, and smile big."

Wear My Hands Out, Nebulai's sophomore studio album challenges your belief systems on a myriad of fronts, as well as igniting your musical palette with it's insatiably catchy grooves. Released in June of 2007 onto the indie label Re-Perkussionz of Sovereign Art, the record is lavished with 14 musicians, 13 tracks, and 61 minutes, 52 seconds of total running time. Nebulai has not budged an inch from his sociopolitically irreverent, overtly queer-conscious, and unapologetic lyricism. Blending such genres as funk, folk, soul, R&B, rock, slam poetry, jazz, and traces of hip-hop, Wear My Hands Out speaks to a wide array of pressing issues. Irresistibly percussive, acoustic guitar riffs by Antara, lay the perfect groundwork for Nebulai's funky, soulful vocal styling. Antara can also be found on 8 tracks layin' down her fresh signature vocals. Bringin' the emotionally charged low end is the very talented Chris Cheney on bass. Wear My Hands Out also features smooth R&B vocalist Adam Joseph from NYC. Drums performed by "the human pocket" Caleb Bronz and rocker Chris Johnston. Truckloads of percussion played by Derrik Jordan and Lisa Newell. Old school Hammond keys and piano by Ero Lippold. Sax by Zach Tonnissen and trumpet by Tom Morse. If it's soulful, honest, non-homogenized, conscious music with a funky edge you like--be prepared to order a copy for you and a friend. In these times where music is as processed and regulated as Cheez Whiz, Wear My Hands Out is a refreshing taste of real people, addressing real issues, in a real way! Unabashed and audacious, this new cut off Re-Perkussionz of Sovereign Art has sociopolitical guts, walking boldly into issues that most songwriter's steer completely clear of.

Dynasty Inc. Is proud to announce a new solo marimba recording by Mark Ford Featuring Ann Bradfield, Alto Saxophone Ed Smith, Vibraphone The University of North Texas Percussion Ensemble Available from: Steve Weiss Music, Lone Star Percussion, CD Baby, iTunes, and Amazon Stealing a Moment... includes these fantastic new tracks for marimba: 1. Kingdom Lore Fanfare (Mark Ford) was premiered at the 2005 Percussive Arts Society International Convention. Dedicated to my son, Kevin Ford, Kingdom Lore was written to celebrate the introduction of the Signature Dynasty Five-Octave Marimba that I designed. The work utilizes three pitch-class sets that develop throughout the music into an energetic display of the potential of the marimba. 2. Wink (Mark Ford) is an alto-saxophone/marimba duet that was written for my sons Austin (marimba) and Kevin Ford (saxophone). Premiered by saxophonist Ann Bradfield and me in January of 2011, Wink is a groovy-hip collaboration that explores three main themes: a syncopated melody, a floating assertion and a waltz-like phrase. Wink gradually builds to a "rock-style" adaptation of the opening statement to end the work. The title refers to those beautiful moments between fathers and sons when words are not necessary, just a wink and a smile. 3. stealing a moment... (Mark Ford) was premiered at the Katowice Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland in 2010. Originally titled 'stealing a moment of forgetfulness', the music contrasts a roaming hesitant theme with a simple melody. The roaming theme represents the routine of our daily lives and the simple melody represents everything beautiful. The simple melody is presented at first as a fragment that grows with each entrance. The roaming theme is gradually altered with each exposure to the simple melody. These themes combine near the end to create a flowing section representing the power of beauty and love in our daily lives. 4. Ransom (Mark Ford) I lived on Ransom Drive when I taught percussion at Middle Tennessee State University. Several years ago I decided to write a series of short etudes for a marimba method book with each etude named for a street where I had lived. Ransom was my first effort and it quickly became much more than an etude. So I published it separately in 2002 as a solo and dedicated it to Erik Johnson, president of Innovative Percussion Inc. Erik was my student at MTSU and we are close friends now. The remainder of the "street" etudes evolved into my 2005 marimba method book, 'Marimba: Technique Through Music.' 5. Sonata for Marimba (Marcin Blazewicz) displays the style and energy of one of Poland's leading composers for the marimba. As Chair of Composition Studies at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, award-winning composer Marcin Blazewicz has written several concertos for marimba that have received international acclaim. His solo Sonata displays many features of a sonata-allegro with an initial folk-like theme. The work builds to several climaxes as it displays the expressive and emotional power of the composition. 6. The Green Road (Mark Ford) is a marimba solo dedicated to my student Akiko Goto. The title refers to an old unused dirt road near my grandfather's house in Short Pump outside of Richmond, Virginia. Covered with leaves, this country road has a canopy of tall trees as it leads into the woods that I used to explore as a boy. The music is peaceful and delicate and reflects a beautiful connection to past family memories. This duet version features the amazing talents of vibist Ed Smith as he highlights and improvises around my original composition. 7. Concertino for Marimba and Percussion Ensemble (Dwayne Rice) This one-movement concertino was commissioned by the Trinity High School Percussion Ensemble and dedicated to percussionist Andrew Eldredge who premiered the work in 2006. Written for marimba soloist and an ensemble consisting of seven percussion keyboard instruments, the marimba soloist artistically weaves in and out of the musical texture. The extended cadenza, written by Mark Ford, recapitulates the concertino's themes before driving to the end. Mark Ford proudly represents Dynasty Percussion, Innovative Percussion, The Zildjian Company, Evans Drum Heads, and Latin Percussion as performing artist and clinician. Mark is the Percussion Coordinator for the University of North Texas College of Music and he is also a past president of the Percussive Arts Society.

Peter Siegel is inspired as an activist, guitar player, teacher, percussive clogger, union minded red diaper grand-baby, mandolin player, juggler, frustrated cynical BoBo --- he is a singer and player of hip-hop, finger style blues, fiddle tunes from Ireland, Quebec, New England, Appalachia, swing, funk, talking blues, and country songs with lots of yodeling. And of course, the politics are more often than not included. Peter was born in the New York City suburbs--a land of TV and Strip Malls, fast food and quick judgements. He was positively inspired by the likes of his parents, his politically active grandparents, Phil Ochs, Run DMC, Pete Seeger, Miles Davis, The Beatles, Looney Tunes, Led Zeppelin, old time music, and perhaps even the theme song to The Jeffersons. Later on Peter was known around the New York's Hudson Valley as a member of the trio, The Harmonious Hogchokers, singing original and traditional songs of the region of political and environmental significance. That combination consisted of his sister Laurie Siegel and his good friend Chris Iversen. They met while serving on the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, a 108-foot replica of a pre-1850 Sloop. The three of them sang the praises of the Hudson River in many a River Fest with Clearwater's Hudson River Sloop Singers. More recently he's been a mainstay of the traditional dance scene of the Pioneer Valley of Western Mass. Playing contra dances and concerts and with David Kaynor and the Greenfield Dance Band, upstate New York's Beverwyck String Band as well as the new old time Trio Underbelly with Alicia Jo Rabins and Michael Daves. In recent years Peter has been touring the continental US, from Maine to South Carolina, and from Washington State to Washington DC. He has strummed and belted on the nationally syndicated etown, WAMC's Dancing on the Air with Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, WFCR's Valley folk, in great venues such as the Kennedy Center in DC to the Chicago Cultural Center, and festivals from Clearwater's Great Hudson River Revival, to the American Festival of Fiddle Tunes. He is an annual teacher of traditions at the John C Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC and he's played in many a middle school and college from New York University to the University of Indiana. He has performed in venues nationally--from the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton, MA to the Walkabout Coffeehouse to Caffe Lena in Saratoga, NY. Peter Strives to connect, reflect, critisize, satirize, and genuinely have a good time. In a world this heavy, he tries to make light of it all without losing the point of it all. Some Quotes: 'Peter Siegel is a skillful, thoughtful, witty and insightful, singer and songwriter...and a darn good guitar player too! He can keep you entertained, while touching your emotions and giving you something to think about at the same time. ' --Jay Ungar, Hudson Valley Fiddler and composer of Ashokan farewell, theme to The Civil War '(Peter) approaches his music with insight and perceptivity that might make people change their way of thinking about the environment and the world's political scene.....his music is both enjoyable and thought-provoking. His songs delve into social issues that many singer-songwriters choose to avoid, and he tackles these with a sense of compassion and forward thinking that is unusual in this day and age....' --Wanda Fischer Host of Hudson River Sampler, WAMC-FM 'Peter Siegel knows how to incite and delight through his words and music he evokes the (folky) politics and humor of Phil Ochs and Tom Lehrer. Siegel's latest, Move the Mob, is witty, timely, topical, and eloquent. A thoughtful artist in the effort to blow open and validate the consciousness of his audiences and our time.' --David Kupfer, Whole Earth Magazine 'Siegel's work is a superb blend of musicianship and education. He has the rare gift of raising awareness about controversial environmental and social issues through humor and irony. In this way, his music compels you to think and act. I know this because I have seen him do it countless times in my classes.' --Mitchell Thomashow Chair, Department of Environmental Studies Antioch New England Graduate School Author, Ecological Identity and Bringing the Biosphere Home 'Keen observations of life's absurdities, solid songwriting and all-around great musicianship, that's Peter Siegel, his delivery is low-key and hilarious, his satire dead center. Somehow he is at once irreverent and respectful, and can aim a zinger with the best of them...' -Margie Rosenkranz The Eighth Step at Cohoes Music Hall 'Peter Siegel has a lyrical gift that makes me giggle uncontrollably. He's one of the best songwriters of my generation and has a gift for showing you just enough tragedy to get out of your seat and the road to a better way of life.' -Tao Rodriguez-Seeger, The Mammals.

1.Sculpture in Wood: This beautiful piece for 4 marimbas was originally composed for a Swiss ensemble. 2Wish Good Speed: This is Phonix's original number. Rhythmically exciting and upbeat, with all the instruments alternately playing solo, this is fun to listen to and to perform. 3. Percussive Conference No.1 : This is a wonderful example that human voice can be used as a percussive instrument. The composer, Ikuo Kakehashi describes it as " an oral tradition oriented style,' with 'chat-like playfulness." 4.Omphalo Centric Lecture: According to Westlake, this piece for marimba ensemble was inspired by the painting of Paul Klee as well as African music. 5. Over the Ocean: Fusion and Japanese pop music influences this piece, which expresses the composer's yearning for traveling to foreign countries. 6. Greetings to Herman: As the title indicates, this piece is often used as an opening for a concert. Although short, this is a percussion masterpiece, sustaining exciting and fierce rhythm patterns throughout. 7. On the Country Road: Composed in the image of an American country road, stretching infinitely in a natural landscape. Minimalist in style, with simple melody lines and rhythm patterns. 8. Visional Train. It consists of three parts, "departure," "encounter," and "farewell." It's melody is simple and beautiful and is enjoyable for everyone. 9. Knock & Click: Progressive rock music may be the closest to describe this original piece. Urban and energetic in a best of rock music way, it is a popular repertoire among percussion ensemble players and fans. 10. Whisper of Forest: This quiet marimba ensemble piece was inspired by J. B. Bach. Please imagine trees whispering to each other at night, while sonw is silently falling.

Welcome to the weirdest band on the planet, or actually passing by this planet. The Hitchhikers of the Galaxy looks like a collective of artists from everywhere on the Earth, that remotely joined to write and record hot tracks, from pop to rock to jazz, experimental and beyond, always open to whatever idea or genre is coming form the different members and collaborators. The Album Stories From Earth, reflects this extravagance, yet being able to be fun and inspirational on every single track. It's musical range of influences starts form the fun and sympathetic voice of Clementine on the first three tracks, with her poetically simple lyrics - sung with an out-tuned fun voice-, to the deepness of Conrad's emotional inspiration in Low Resistance. Marzo Superstar provides a break into instrumental super-danceable riffs and solos for trumpet, with shades of jazz-contemporary improvisation and Big Band themes, as opposite to the nasty gurgling of aggressive distorted guitars and bouncing percussive rhythms. We've found acoustic moments as well, like in the space ballad Come Along, with a hilarious feeling of retro mountain choirs, even though intense for it's lonely lyrics. The Album ends a non-sense disco music track, which apparently is some sort of a remix from some other undefined sources, but it's of a blasting of rhythm and attractive melodies. Curious album, as their first release, Stories from Earth by the Hitchhikers of the Galaxy collective, worth a listen to.

CORDATUM - JAVIER BRAVO (GUITAR) ARGENTINE MUSIC COLLECTION VOL. II THE CONTEMPORARY GUITAR &nbsp,&nbsp,&nbsp,This disc is part of a research project about avant-garde guitar music in Argentina and it includes works composed between 1974 and 2011. Many of these guitar works are recorded for the first time on CD and some of them remain unpublished .They are pieces of great artistic value and despite the great the development of classical guitar world, are not yet known or broadcast. We hope that this album contribute to the diffusion and promotion of contemporary Argentine art, it's excellent works and creators. The twentieth century was the scene of great changes in all spheres, many new movements have arisen in politics, science and art. Notably, the second half of the century is a turning point in the emergence of new concepts in music: the appearance of indeterminacy in various musical parameters, the development of serialism and other highly refined organizational systems, the enrichment of timbre through new instrumental techniques and electronics and, finally the coexistence of the styles of all times and all countries. &nbsp,&nbsp,&nbsp,In Argentina we can find a turning point in the creation of the Instituto Di Tella and it's Latin American Center for Advanced Musical Studies. Despite it's relatively brief period of activity (1962-1971) it exerted a decisive influence on Latin American music and other arts of the time, stimulating the creation, communication and exchange between composers of our continent and the rest of the world.&nbsp, &nbsp,&nbsp,The guitar, instrument of long tradition and popularity in Argentina in all musical genres, had it's repertoire enriched with many creations that incorporate new expressive possibilities through timbral innovation, an unprecedented evolution of musical notation, and experiments with new ways of structuring musical material. &nbsp,&nbsp,&nbsp,This creative impulse remains over time and reaches the XXI century, where all these trends converge, develop and manifest according to the personality of each composer, resulting in a wide range of artistic expressions. JORGE TSILICAS (Buenos Aires 1930 - Buenos Aires 1995) Monologues (1974) Jorge Tsilicas studied composition with Jacobo Ficher, Francisco Kröpfl and Enrique Belloc in Argentina. Later he studied with Boris Porena and Franco Donatoni in Italy. He devoted much of their production to the guitar, including works for solo guitar, duets and quartets. His works are written in an atonal style, exploring the timbral possibilities of the guitar and experimenting with different degrees of formal indeterminacy (Spiral, Perikiklosis). Dedicated to argentine guitarist Irma Costanzo, Monologues is a piece organised in three movements: The first have a fragmentary and energetic character. This movement is structured in series of short gestures consisting of chords, note sets and percussive effects. A sense of agitation is achieved through continuous dynamic contrast and permutation of elements, evolving over a harmonic texture based mainly in minor second and augmented fourth intervals. The second movement, Moderato, based on the same harmonic elements, conveys a more contemplative, lyrical mood, with a greater sense of continuity of the elements. It's third movement, Presto, shares sound gestures with other movements but it is characterized by the use of fast passages in a toccata or cadenza style in most of the movement. JAVIER BRAVO (Buenos Aires * 1972) Distance (2006)-Toccata (2004) Javier Bravo studied composition with Rodolfo Daluisio and wrote works for various instrumental ensembles ranging from solo instruments to symphonic and electroacoustic music. His musical language is inspired by popular Argentine music and jazz, together with sound resources and procedures of contemporary music. Distance explores the harmonic and resonance possibilities of guitar through a twelve-tone based structure. Written on a lyrical and contemplative style, this piece refers to rhythmic gestures of zamba, a very traditional Argentine folk dance. In contrast to Distance, Toccata expresses a climate of agitation: it begins with short chord sequences in fortissimo, which alternate with extensive passages based on the idea of continuous motion. The work, of great virtuosity, grows in tension through numerous meter changes, polymetric passages, multiple string tremolos and strumming chords. Based on a twelve-tone structure, this work is built over concepts of free atonality. FERNANDO ROVETTA (* 1968) 'Two Pieces for Guitar' (1994) Graduated from IUNA with a Musical Arts degree, Fernando Rovetta studied composition with Juan Carlos Figueras, Pablo Cetta and Fernando Maglia. Awarded as composer on several ocassions, he gives seminars on contemporary music and participates as jury of guitar competitions. On "Two pieces for guitar ' the author says: 'The 'Two Pieces for Guitar '(1994) are rooted on tango music, exploring it's gestures, procedures and sound within a musical language lying between extended tonality and free atonalism. The first one, 'Transition', is developed through the interaction of a harmonic component (with the chord as support) and another melodic (a chromatic gesture linked to bandoneonist Anibal Troilo style). In the second piece, 'Recycling', motivic elements contrast themselves and cohere in the rhythmic aspect (supported in various stylistic resources). This work includes the phrasing and dynamic fluctuations of the tempo, typical of the genre.J avier Bravo's performing deeply understood the implications that have these formal aspects, resulting in an intense version, very rich in detail. ' SALVADOR RANIERI (Arena, Italy 1930 - Buenos Aires 2012) Cordatum (2005) Salvador Ranieri, was a prolific composer, with a catalog of more than 180 works, including symphonic and chamber music . He studied composition with Juan Francisco Giacobbe in Argentina and later with Goffredo Petrassi in Italy. He studied electronic music at the Institute di Tella through a scholarship, and then he continued working in that field at the Academy of Santa Cecilia (Rome). His style was defined several times as deeply expressive, driven by an intense inner dramatism. Cordatum is written in the manner of a fantasy, in a style full of passion and metric vitality. Chromatism, rhythmic insistence and percussive effects are characteristic of the author's style. The work, composed in 2005, was premiered by Javier Bravo in 2011. CECILIA FIORENTINO (Buenos Aires * 1962) Petite Suite (2011). I. Prelude II. Dance III. Aria IV. Final Cecilia Fiorentino graduated as Profesora Superior de Piano (1982) and Composition (1986) at the National Music Conservatory 'Carlos López Buchardo'. Noteworthy among her teachers are Fermina Casanova, Virtu Maragno, Alicia Terzián, Delia Castro, Isabel von Basenheim, Amalia Cascarini and Perla Brúgola. She is the author of some fifty works, most of them for chamber ensambles. As a composer, she has been awarded several times and she actively participates in composers' associations from Argentina. She teaches counterpoint and composition at several Buenos Aires' Conservatoires and has participated as jury in various composition competitions . On Petite Suite, the author tells us: 'Written in a free tonal style, this work- as almost every movement- express on it's titles, formal models that inspired it's composition: the single motive based structure in the first movement -resembling the style of many Baroque preludes-, the rhythmic and formal symmetry in the second movement -Dance-, and the characteristic accompanied melody texture in third movement titled Aria. The final movement consists of two parts: a free introduction in a fantasia style, and a 'fugatto' section to conclude. While it is not the first time I have included the guitar in one of my works, it is certainly the first time that I write a solo guitar piece. This has been for me, a unique challenge, that I hope to have withstood thanks to the valuable contr
