The Politically Incorrect Guide to Communism , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 704min
The worst idea in history is back! Communism has wrecked national economies, enslaved whole peoples, and killed more than a hundred million men and women. What's not to like? Too many young Americans are supporting communism. Millennials prefer socialism to capitalism, and 25 percent have a positive view of Lenin. One in four Americans believe that George W. Bush killed more people than Joseph Stalin. And 69 percent of millennials would vote for a socialist for president. They ought to know better. Communism is the most dangerous idea in world history, producing dire poverty, repression, and carnage wherever it has been tried. And no wonder - because communism flatly denies morality, human nature, and basic facts. But it's always going to be different this time. Renowned scholar and best-selling author Paul Kengor unmasks communism, exposing its blood-drenched history and the strange sway it has long exercised over much of American media and education. He reveals: Stalin alone killed six times as many people as Hitler The Khmer Rouge slaughtered more than a third of the population of Cambodia Communists in Eastern Europe and worldwide tortured Christians Communist Party USA (CPUSA) was directly controlled by the Soviets Obama's CIA director voted for the CPUSA candidate for president in 1980 Unrepentant 60s-era communists are educating American teachers today The Politically Incorrect Guide to Communism debunks the world's worst ideology, sounds the alarm about its disturbing popular resurgence, and arms you with facts you need to refute its appeal. ungekürzt. An Uncommon Enemy: Eden Murdoch, Book 1 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 568min
There is no word in the Cheyenne language for forgiveness. On the day after Thanksgiving, 1868, George Armstrong Custer and the Seventh Cavalry attack a sleeping Cheyenne village on the banks of the Washita. Ironically, it later becomes known that the village attacked was that of Black Kettle, the foremost peace chief of the Cheyenne Nation. Amidst the heartless and senseless slaughter of men, women, and children, the Seventh Cavalry discovers a white woman living among the Cheyenne. Her name is Eden Murdoch, and she was presumed dead years before. While the army expects to use her for propaganda purposes and to refute the accusations that the Cheyenne village posed no threat to white settlers, Eden refuses to take part in any such propaganda: to acknowledge that the army "rescued" her from a "savage" society. Eden avoids giving the details of her story to any of the officers; she will say only that she considered her Cheyenne husband and his other wives family. Custer's young and inexperienced aide-de-camp, Captain Brad Randall, is assigned the task of looking after Eden and locating her family. Beginning to doubt Custer's actions and struggling to act honorably, Brad is both fascinated and perplexed by Eden's eccentric behavior. He becomes obsessed with learning the truth behind Eden's bizarre journey, and when Eden begins to reveal it to him, his own future changes. Eden and Brad unexpectedly set in motion events that will echo all the way to the Little Bighorn. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Kris Faulkner. Hallelujah , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 181min
The story begins on a hot afternoon at the Wynoochee River where Eve nearly drowns. The drowning symbolizes all the ways she nearly drowned after that day; and after she plunges listeners into that stiflingly hot moment of innocence fading, she promises to tell her story in pieces, to explain why, “it’s about f--king up, and learning from that.” Eve is tossed from mother to father, ultimately rejected by both. She suffers physical and sexual abuse at the hands of her stepfather. When she leaves home, Eve continues the pattern of estrangement from her body. Not all at once, but in increments, she emerges strong and self-assured through her practice of physical movement: the physical act of writing, running, and yoga. But this takes time and happens like her story: in pieces. She delves into early female friendships, sibling relationships, sexuality, and the influence of literature on her thinking to pull out each meaningful piece, color it in a way that evokes her listener’s imagination, and then weaves that piece into the larger picture. Eve’s is a story of how we heal and grow stronger, even while new wounds are inflicted and our weaknesses emerge - even while we hurt others and allow others to hurt us. The story is embedded in the landscape of Western Washington, especially Eve’s hometown of Aberdeen. Eve, the first-person narrator of Hallelujah, seeks to simultaneously tell the story of her sometimes self-imposed salvation from ruin, as well as to refute the idea of resilience as a fixed trait. ungekürzt. The Merovingians (eBook, ePUB)
The studies collected here cover a period of about 33 years, from 1986 to 2019, and represent a sustained effort to understand the institutions of the Merovingian kingdom and its history. There has long been a predisposition to cast the Merovingian period in the dark colours of barbarism or to treat it with reference to personal relationships and archaic institutions. The present volume, instead, recognizes the Merovingian world not as an archaic, primitive intrusion on the Mediterranean civilization of the Roman Empire but simply as a participant in the wider commonwealth that existed before and remained after the dissolution of the western imperial system; in so doing, it serves to refute the scholarly tendency to primitivize Merovingian governance, its underlying institutions, and the broader culture upon which these rested. The collection is divided into four parts. Part I considers the question of whether Merovingian kingship should be viewed as a species of archaic, 'sacral' kingship. Part II, on institutions, has chapters that deal with various offices (the grafio and centenarius), public institutions (especially immunity and public security), and the broader makeup of the Merovingian state system. Part III, on charters, procedure, and law, has chapters on the profile of the charter evidence as now presented in the new MGH edition of the Merovingian diplomas and one on particular procedures before the royal tribunal, mistakenly referred to in scholarship as 'fictitious' trials; a final chapter provides a reflection on, and basic guide to, the law in general of the successor kingdoms, with an eye to the evidence of Merovingian Gaul. Part IV, a slight change of pace, deals with historiography, both the modern variety (Reinhard Wenskus) and the Merovingian (Gregory of Tours). All chapters deal extensively with the historiography of their subjects. This book will appeal to students and scholars alike interested in Early Medieval European history, Merovingian history, Early Medieval law and society, Early Medieval historiography, and the influence of Merovingian law and governance on later centuries.- Shop: buecher

Eternal Salvation to All Those Who Obey Him: A Book on Christian Obedience to Honor God , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 306min
Obedience: a very unpopular topic in the end-times worldly church! Look in a bookstore, Christian catalog, or online: how many books are there on obedience to God and obeying his commands in worship and life? None, you say? Does that mean Satan is alive and well in the latter days, deceiving even Christian authors, publishers, and buyers that obedience is now old fashioned? This book, Eternal Salvation to All Those Who Obey Him, from Hebrews 5:9, is a rare book of this century and the latter apostate days of the church. It honors God. It shows not only how obedience permeates Christian life but that we are saved by obedience to his commands. Jesus predicted many false teachers in the end-times, which became true. False doctrines like Calvinism, Antinomianism, once saved always saved, eternal security, etc., have taken over God's main theme in Holy Scripture - obedience. There are over 200 Scriptures in the New Testament alone on obedience. Is Jesus really your lord? Can you prove you love Jesus (John 14:15) and know Jesus (1 John 2:3-6) by your obedience? Will you really go to heaven as shown in the book of Revelation (14:12)? We need a revival in the world to get back to the basics of Christianity and God's people. We must get back to the responsibility of man as God has commanded, and that is to live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God! We must refute Satan and his false teachings in these latter days. We must learn the tricks and deceptions of Satan and make the word our final authority. We must know that Satan can easily deceive those who do not make God's word their final authority in life. We must obey God rather than man! ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Kevin F Spalding. Can a Catholic Be a Socialist? , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 253min
Somehow, this long-discredited economic philosophy is making a comeback, not only on college campuses and political talk shows, but among sincere Catholics. Some think that it could be the answer to greed and globalism. Others even argue that it’s the best way to obey Christ’s command to help the poor. Let’s give socialism a fresh chance, they say. A democratic socialism, this time, friendly to religion and ordered to the common good like the church says the economy should be.In Can a Catholic Be a Socialist?, Trent Horn and Catherine R. Pakaluk refute this tempting but false notion. Drawing on scripture, history, Catholic social teaching, and basic economic reality, they show - beyond a doubt - that Catholicism and socialism are utterly incompatible. Along the way, they debunk many of the common claims used to keep afloat the fantasy of a Christian-socialist hybrid, including:Since the early Christians kept their property in common, so should we.Jesus would be in favor of an economic system that guarantees everyone food, health care, and education. The Church - especially Pope Francis - teaches that Catholics must find a “third way” between the extremes of communism and capitalism.Socialism would work if it were just done right, like in Sweden.Although there is no one “Catholic” economic system, Can a Catholic Be a Socialist? also helps you understand commonsense economic principles that are truly in line with the faith. For, we all should work for an economy that gives life: fostering prosperity and the common good while providing opportunities to practice temperance and charity.Praise for the book:"[A] deep dive into socialism's fatal flaws, using the sharp tools of Catholic social doctrine for the excavation." (George Weigel, distinguished senior fellow and William E. Simon chair in Catholic Studies Ethics and Public Policy Center)“[A] very helpful pr ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Trent Horn. The Illustrated Guide to Understanding Astrophysics and the Universe , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 79min
“My goal is simple. It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all.” - Stephen Hawking From the dawn of time, man has sought to understand the universe and his place in it. How did the Earth and the Solar System come to be? How was the universe created?Like other scientific disciplines, astronomy and astrophysics is one big detective story. Hypotheses are formed, observations taken, and experiments performed in the search for universal laws that describe all that we see. A good hypothesis or theory will make predictions of future observations, the results of which will either refute the theory, or be consistent with it.Astronomy is at a distinct disadvantage over other branches of science in one crucial way: For the most part, our observations only consist of photons (i.e. light) from far away sources, rarely can we touch and manipulate the things we observe, and thus create our own controls for an “experiment”. We must wait for those far-away objects to cooperate. The light must be analyzed in many different ways (variations in space, time, intensity, and frequency to name just a few), comparing different objects with one another, and making informed opinions upon the results. The light over the whole electromagnetic spectrum from a particular “target” must be explained in a consistent way using the laws of physics, and often it's back to the telescope for a new set of observations when some part of the theory proves inadequate. Or, back to some intensive computations. Nevertheless, astronomers and astrophysicists have done remarkably well over the last couple of centuries, allowing us to present an overview of how the universe functions. In this resourceful guide, common and uncommon questions about the universe will be explained in comprehensive but easy-to-understand terms. You’ll learn the answers to some of the most important questions, including: How do stars form? ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Jim D Johnston.
