Love on Air: Rivals in Love, Book 4 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 361min
Two TV newscasters find common ground in their pursuit of the story. But their methods for coping with horrific news collide during a shooting at Navy Pier.Diamond Crandall anchors his own cable news show The Diamond Report and is resented by some for his age and lack of experience. But he’s proven himself as a solid journalist, and most of his colleagues respect him. When Hope Colson shows up to vie for a seat next to him as co-host, he balks, until he sees her in action. The producer of his show, Jane only cares about ratings, not standards. When Jane admits she’s hiring Hope, not for her standards or talent, but because she’s Black, Diamond is taken aback and unsure if he should tell Hope or not. But one of Diamond’s colleagues - one who’s still resentful of Diamond’s ascent at the network -tells Hope that it is Diamond who wanted a Black woman hired for diversity’s sake. What had started as a promising professional and, perhaps, personal relationship deteriorates into the two of them barely speaking. It doesn’t help that the rest of the Crandall family has fallen in love with Hope, and even Senator Nolan Crandall, gives Hope an exclusive interview, which rankles Diamond, especially since Hope has been giving him the cold shoulder treatment. When Hope panics during a shooting at Navy Pier in Chicago, Diamond advises her to get help. It’s only when Diamond sees a family collapse that he goes into his own form of PTSD.They both reveal the past tragedies that refuse to heal since both have refused to talk about them. From Chicago to DC and the halls of Congress, the two journalists appear on the air together, but when the lights go off and they face each other, the truths long hidden will determine if the chemistry on the air translates to real life. ungekürzt. Gossip: A Novel , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 519min
The critically acclaimed author of Good-bye and Amen, Leeway Cottage, and More Than You Know returns with a sharply perceptive and emotionally resonant novel about all the ways we talk about one another, the sometimes fine line between showing concern and doing damage, and the difficulty of knowing the true obligations of friendship. "Did you know that the origin of the word gossip in English is 'god-sibling'? It's the talk between people who are godparents to the same child, people who have a legitimate loving interest in the person they talk about. It's talk that weaves a net of support and connection beneath the people you want to protect." Loviah "Lovie" French owns a small, high-end dress shop on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Renowned for her taste and discretion, Lovie is the one to whom certain women turn when they need "just the thing" for major life events - baptisms and balls, weddings and funerals - or when they just want to dish in the dressing room. Among the people who depend on Lovie's confidence are her two best friends since boarding school: Dinah Wainwright and Avis Metcalf. Outspoken and brimming with confidence, Dinah made a name for herself as a columnist covering the doings of New York's wealthiest and most fabulous. Shy, proper Avis, in many ways Dinah's opposite, rose to prominence in the art world with her quiet manners, hard work, and precise judgment. Despite the deep affection they both feel for Lovie, they have been more or less allergic to one another since a minor incident decades earlier that has been remembered and resented with what will prove to be unimaginable consequences. These uneasy acquaintances become unwillingly bound to one another when Dinah's favorite son and Avis's only daughter fall in love and marry. On the surface, Nick and Grace are the perfect match - a playful, romantic, buoyant, and beautiful pair. But their commitment will be strained by ungekürzt. Language: English. MFM, Sci-Fi, Femdom, Cuckolding, Reverse Harem Bundle: Includes Two Series - The Alpha Stables and Cuckolds in Space: Raven Merlot's Sci-Fi Cuckolding Reverse Harem Bundles, Book 1 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 248min, (USK 18)
The battle of the sexes has ended. Women won. Men have been reduced to a subservient position in society, where they can be truly useful and reach their full potential and servants and lovers. What's left of their masculinity has been molded into a quiet and respectful supporting role for their mistresses the world over. Being an obedient beta male is as much as a natural born man could ever hope for. Masculine dominance and aggression does have certain entertainment value for the women who desire it though. It just needed to be distilled into something more controllable. Humanity's most brilliant and forward-thinking scientists created the Alphas, genetically superior male models used for pleasure. They're stronger and more aggressive than the un-enhanced Beta males, and everyone knows it. Some wealthy mistresses are able to afford frequent trips to the Alpha Stables, while others just splurge from time to time. Regardless, once a woman goes to an Alpha, her beta males know that they are obsolete. Being reminded of their inferiority keeps them in line and working as hard as they can to stay useful. When a subservient beta male commits a serious enough infraction such as pleasuring himself or finishing too early he can endure one of the greatest humiliations possible: watching his mistress be pleasured by a superior Alpha model. He’ll never forget his place after that. Humanity is also ready to spread throughout the stars. Led by Commander Strong and a group of female scientists, Earth's first interstellar voyage has begun. The women have all that they'll need on-board. Food, water, and of course some men for entertainment. Beta males are available for menial tasks and to provide the brave explorers with sexual pleasure, but that task occasionally eludes them.In cryo-sleep are several Alphas, men genetically engineered simply to pleasure women. Resented by Betas and coveted by women, these perfect specimens are at the ready to please t ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Ruby Rivers. Vincent Price: A Daughter's Biography , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 1367min
Since his death in 1993, Vincent Price's legacy as a Hollywood legend has only grown in stature. His lengthy and distinguished career - as the voice of The Saint on the radio; as an actor in such unforgettable horror films as House of Wax and The Fly, in classic movies such as Laura and The Song of Bernadette, and on popular TV shows such as Batman and The Brady Bunch; and as a star on the Broadway stage - spanned 65 years. In addition to being an icon of stage and screen, Price was an art historian and collector who did much to popularize the visual arts in the United States, as well as a gourmet chef and author of best-selling cookbooks. Widely revered for his elegance and erudition, this Renaissance man left his mark on many areas of American culture during the twentieth century. Vincent Price was also a loving father to his daughter Victoria, who was born shortly before he turned 51, at the height of his popularity. Though the star's busy film schedule took him in and out of his young daughter's life, he was always a larger-than-life presence and, simply, her father. The deep bond between father and daughter managed to survive the machinations of Price's third wife, the elegant British actress Coral Browne, who resented the close relationship between Price and his children and grandchildren. After Browne's death, Price and his daughter spent over a year taping conversations that would form the basis of this compelling biography-cum-memoir. In writing about the father she adored, Victoria Price reveals a man complex, human, and humorous. An actor of range, less than one-third of the movies in which he appeared were in the horror genre. As a pre-war anti-Nazi sympathizer, he was greylisted during the Red Scare of the 1950s until, in a desperate gesture, he signed a secret oath that saved his career. ungekürzt. Language: English. The New York City Draft Riots of 1863: The History of the Notorious Insurrection at the Height of the Civil War , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 80min
Most adults alive today either remember or have heard of the turbulent 1960s, but far fewer are familiar with the similarities those more recent protests had with the earlier unrest of a century earlier. Although the Civil War is remembered as the seminal event of American history, and it is often portrayed as the Lincoln administration and the North fighting bravely to preserve the Union and ultimately end slavery, the truth at the time was far more complicated. Perhaps most notably, as with Vietnam, the Civil War was very unpopular among many in the North, especially in large, manufacturing cities that were dependent on the South for raw materials. Also, as African Americans made their way north in the hopes of making new lives for themselves, they often encountered racism and outright violence. Native-born Americans and newly-arrived immigrants alike often resented black men taking jobs they felt were theirs by right, and in the wake of the Emancipation Proclamation, many men were hesitant to fight on behalf of a cause that they saw as being for the benefit of blacks. With the Civil War still raging and no end in sight, the Lincoln administration instituted the first conscription laws in the North in 1863, and it led quickly to an outbreak of violence in New York City and other large cities. In fact, the New York City draft riots, which lasted several days in July of that year, still stand today as the bloodiest and deadliest in American history. More than 100 people died during the week of July 12-18 as mobs of thousands looted and burned buildings across the city in protest. However, in addition to targeting the draft, people also attacked African American men, women and children and anyone who might try to defend them. It's been estimated that over a dozen blacks were lynched across the city during the unrest, and thousands of people were injured. Ultimately, the city's police department was forced to call in forces from all around, includin ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Scott Clem. The Hidden History of the Knights Templar: The Church's Oldest Conspiracy , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 132min
Full of incredible turns of events including secrets, deceits, lies and betrayals, the history of the Knights Templar from their triumphant conquests to their abrupt fall still fascinates. Find out the hidden history of the Knights Templar that really led to their demise. The Knights Templar existed officially for less than 200 years. Founded to protect pilgrims who were travelling through the Holy Lands, their rise to power was sudden. They became some of the most feared warriors in the region, they had a mandate from God, they controlled perhaps the world's first real banking system, and they waged war against anyone who tried to wrestle Christianity and seize holy grounds from the control of the Catholic Church. Within their short lifespan, they quickly became one of the most powerful societies in Europe, if not the world. But, just as they rose to power with relative speed, they fell from grace just as fast. Forged in the crucible of Middle Eastern conflict, their power was soon resented and feared. Before they could become even more powerful, the greatest nations in Europe and the Church turned on them. The once powerful Templars were hunted, caught, tortured, and eventually burned at the stake. According to their prosecutors, they were a devil-worshipping secret society who spat on the cross and plotted against the Pope. They were officially disbanded and their members treated with extreme contempt and prejudice. Or so goes the official story. In this book, we will not only look into the official history of the Knights Templar, but will examine the various ways their influence and ideas have tunneled their way into the modern world. A group this powerful does not vanish overnight. Instead, their history has been linked to the Freemasons, to vicious curses, to the butchery of the Crusades, and even to Christian relics such as the Holy Grail. For many people, the Templars did not vanish and they did not relinquish their tight grip on the power.... /p ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Charles D. Baker. Into the Burning Dawn: Heartbreaking and Gripping World War 2 Historical Fiction Set in Italy , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 927min
In the terrace courtyard of the palazzo overlooking a sparkling bay, the scent of ripening lemons filled the air. His deep brown eyes gazed into hers with determination and longing. "Will you do it? Risk everything and join us?"Twenty-one-year-old Imogen Fitzgerald was raised in an English orphanage and never knew her parents. So when World War Two breaks out, she refuses to leave the life she’s worked so hard to build for herself, teaching English to little Marco and Eloisa in the beautiful Italian city of Naples. With their father, Giancarlo, away fighting for the fascists, there’s no one else to care for these lost children. Imogen’s dark hair and perfect Italian will protect her for now, but if anyone discovers her secret identity as an enemy of Italy, Marco and Eloisa will be left with no one. As the shadows of bomber planes darken the azure blue waters of the bay, the one person Imogen can depend on is Fabrizio, the children’s uncle. He’s never seen eye-to-eye with their father, and Imogen is forbidden to speak to him...but whenever they secretly meet in the lemon groves, Imogen instantly feels safe. Fabrizio talks passionately of the resistenza, the underground group fighting the regime, and soon Imogen herself is involved - smuggling food along the rocky coast and even supplying information on Giancarlo to help fight the Nazis and end this awful war. But when Giancarlo suddenly returns, injured from the fighting, Imogen is shocked to find him much changed. Rather than the fascist sympathiser she knew and resented, she sees in Giancarlo a man who would do anything to protect his children and his beloved Italy. Was she wrong to expose him as a traitor? Torn between two sides, Imogen’s own life is thrown into terrible danger when a child goes missing and her secret identity is exposed...did she put her trust in the wrong man? And is it too late to save herself and the children from the horrors ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Polly Edsell. You'll Know in Your Heart : The Gods Made Me Do It, Book 7 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 380min
Baby, youngest son of Poseidon, had started to avoid going anywhere near his family. Between lovestruck mates and tiny children, more and more he was starting to feel as if he just didn't fit. Anywhere. Abandoned by one father at birth, and pretty much ignored by the other, Baby roamed the world, looking for some kind of acceptance, but all he could find was hookups. And there were plenty of those. Being the son of Himeros, the god of desire, as well wasn't all it was cracked up to be. But none of the people he saw for brief moments touched his heart, and most of them never wanted him to stay longer than an hour or two at most. Owen was known by many names, but the one title he'd spent a long time avoiding was that of "Baby's mate". Having known who his mate was from Baby's birth, Owen had stayed hidden away from life, content to watch his mate through his Oracle stone, until more than a thousand years had past. When the destructive behavior he believed Baby was falling into got worse, Owen knew it was time to step in. Baby needed a fixer, and the Fates had given Owen the job. But Baby didn't want to be fixed. In fact, he resented the very idea, which meant Owen needed to make a few attitude adjustments. As the two men bumbled along, struggling to find common ground with each other long enough to make a mating work, they weren't getting any support from Poseidon, Claude, or Himeros. When Baby gets another shock, he seriously starts to think hiding in an isolated cave somewhere was a good idea. The question is - will he take Owen with him?Unlike my other stories, this book has little or no outside angst factors. Listeners familiar with Baby's story as mentioned in earlier books in the series will know this sweet man has more than enough conflict in his own head, without introducing more. Quite simply, this story is Baby and Owen's journey toward true love and family. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: John York.
