Gewaltlegitimation in der buddhistischen Lehre am Beispiel des tibetischen Buddhismus

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2018 im Fachbereich Theologie - Vergleichende Religionswissenschaft, Note: 1,3, Universität Potsdam, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Während die Fassaden der großen monotheistischen Religionen als friedfertige Glaubensgemeinschaften schon längst zu bröckeln begonnen haben, hält sich das Bild einer bestimmten religiösen Gemeinschaft, des Buddhismus, als der friedliebenden "Religion" par excellence im zeitgenössischen gesellschaftlichen Diskurs äußerst hartnäckig. Das Repertoire der positiven Assoziationen mit der Lehre des Siddhartha Gautama (Selbstfindung, innerer Frieden, Meditation, Ruhe und gutes Karma dürften nur einige dieser sein) ist ein schier unerschöpfliches und scheint gleichzeitig hauptverantwortlich für die Massentauglichkeit des Buddhismus zu sein. Und auch mit Blick auf das Oberhaupt des tibetischen Buddhismus dem 14. Dalai Lama Tendzin Gyatsho - der fälschlicherweise häufig für den geistigen Führer aller Buddhisten gehalten wird - scheint sich diese Sicht der Dinge zu bestätigen, denn dieser erhielt im Jahr 1989 aufgrund seines Einsatzes für die gewaltlose Befreiung Tibets den Friedensnobelpreis.Doch auch der "Ozean des Friedens", wie der Buddhismus unter anderem von seinen Anhängern bezeichnet wird, hat seine Schattenseiten. Die jüngsten Vorkommnisse in Myanmar, die massive Verfolgung der muslimischen Rohingya durch die buddhistische Mehrheitsgesellschaft, sind keinesfalls die absolute Ausnahme, sondern reihen sich ein in eine Geschichte der Gewalt, die auch im Buddhismus präsent ist und die sich von dessen historischen Anfängen bis in die Moderne zieht. Anliegen dieser Arbeit ist es daher, den Buddhismus im Sinne der Aufklärung zu entzaubern und von einem seiner Hauptattribute, der Gewaltlosigkeit, zu befreien. Da diese Arbeit jedoch nicht alle Strömungen und Schulen des äußerst heterogenen Gebildes Buddhismus abhandeln kann, wird sie sich auf die Auseinandersetzung mit einer bestimmten Schule bzw. Strömung des Buddhismus beschränken: den tibetischen Vajrayana-Buddhismus.
