    Hans-Jürgen Krahl war ein unglaublicher Revolutionär: Um 1968 gab es niemanden, der den Versuch einer »historisch angemessenen Vermittlung von Theorie und Praxis« derart intensiv betrieben hat wie er. Als Vorstandsmitglied des SDS lieferte er wichtige Überlegungen zur Organisation der Studierendenbewegung. La ribellione delle masse, il saggio che rese noto l'autore spagnolo in tutta Europa, abbozzava fin dal 1930 una morfologia della società moderna, tratteggiandone e prevedendone aspetti e manifestazioni, esiti e conseguenze che solamente dopo la catastrofe del secondo conflitto mondiale si sarebbero realizzati, sviluppati ed ingigantiti in tutta la loro drammaticità. OyG aveva, tra i primi, posto in guardia contro i pericoli di omologazione che stava correndo l'uomo contemporaneo coll'irrompere delle masse sulla scena della storia: "La massa travolge tutto ciò che è differente, singolare, individuale, qualificato e selezionato. Chi non sia come 'tutto il mondo', chi non pensi come 'tutto il mondo' corre il rischio di essere eliminato. Ed è chiaro che questo 'tutto il mondo' non è 'tutto il mondo'. 'Tutto il mondo' era normalmente l'unità complessa di massa e minoranze discrepanti, speciali. Adesso 'tutto il mondo' è soltanto la massa". L'uomo massa di OyG, infatti, come ce lo descrive, è proprio il nostro contemporaneo, il nostro vicino di casa, il parlamentare da noi eletto, l'uomo di scienza che va per la maggiore, noi stessi. L'uomo contemporaneo, cioè, è come un bambino viziato dalla storia dell'umanità, dalla quale ha ereditato le comodità, la sicurezza, tutti i vantaggi della civiltà, senza correre pericoli, soprattutto, senza avere un suo progetto di vita che dia significato alla propria esistenza. Già nel 1930, OyG credeva molto all'Europa e a un suo disegno unitario. Ed proprio all'uomo europeo non resterà altro che lanciarsi nell'avventura della costruzione di una grande impresa, perché l'Europa torni a credere in se stessa, nel proprio destino e nel proprio futuro. L'autore: nato a Madrid il 9 maggio 1883, ha studiato filosofia a Lipsia, Berlino e Marburgo, ottenendo nella capitale spagnola la cattedra di metafisica. Si era fatto conoscere subito con uno studio su Cervantes, Meditaciones del Quijote ed iniziò a collaborare al quotidiano El sol, sul quale apparvero i vari capitoli di España invertebrada e de La redencion de las provincias (1927-1928). Nel luglio 1923 fondava e dirigeva la Rivista de Occidente, che insieme alla Biblioteca de ideas del siglo XX avrebbe messo in circolazione e fatto conoscere al grande pubblico spagnolo le opere più significative del pensiero contemporaneo. Pur restando al di fuori dello scontro fratricida che insanguinò la sua nazione, Ortega y Gasset dovette subire il carcere e fu costretto all'esilio, a cui pose termine alla fine dell'ultima guerra mondiale, riprendendo la sua attività di ricerca e di studio, che durerà fino alla sua scomparsa avvenuta a Madrid nel 1955.
