Forest Microbiology: Volume 2: Forest Tree Health
Forest Microbiology, Volume Two: Forest Tree Health highlights a range of emerging microbial phytopathogens of forest trees, along with novel approaches for managing tree pests and diseases in a changing climate. The book provides an overview of selected microbial pathogens of forest trees, with an emphasis on their biology, lifecycle, spreading mechanisms, impact on affected tree species and current and prospective control strategies. At the same time, the impact of tree microbiomes on host fitness is discussed. Beneficial components of tree microbiota are presented, along with their functional role in tree nutrition, immunity and disease resistance. In addition, this volume addresses the many functions of microbial disease agents of trees including fungi, bacteria, viruses and phytoplasma. Strong emphasis is placed on the genetics, biochemistry, physiology, evolutionary biology and population dynamics of the microorganisms involved. This title is a key resource for foresters and forest pathology practitioners, as well as plant biologists.- Shop: buecher

Shaky Business: An Oyster Tongers Apocalyptic Tale (Aftermath Survival) (Volume 2) , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 254min
The post-apocalyptic survival adventure begins anew as Hobe sails for Florida in search of new opportunities after leaving the Trade Rendezvous. He has a plan that has not been revealed to his sailboats crew yet to hopefully put them into some new profitable adventures. Everything seems to be going well despite the hurricane that blew them off course and sent them towards an oyster fishing village in a far bay until pirate sails were spotted on the horizon. Follow our stalwart heroes as they brave the high seas five years after a Solar Storm has taken the electrical grid and economy down. The destination is Panama City, Florida down the Alabama River and into the Gulf of Mexico where they meet up with game wardens and foresters who may want to contest their moving into a state park. Unique mobility issues on land challenge the success of their trade mission but an old form of transportation is rediscovered. Forest Valuation under Carbon Pricing
Emissions trading schemes are increasingly beingadopted to combat climate change. New Zealand createdthe world s first all sectors all gases such schemein 2008, awarding tradable credits for carbonsequestration and imposing liabilities for emissions(i.e. harvest or deforestation) from forestry. Addingcarbon pricing as a decision variable complicatesforest and forest land valuation, highlighting thereal options available to foresters (i.e. to deferharvest or to change land use). Standard forestvaluation methodologies do not properly capture thevalue impacts of carbon pricing on forestry. Thisbook was commissioned by the New Zealand Ministry ofAgriculture and Forestry, and develops a new approach bootstrapping real options analysis (BROA) toaddress this shortcoming. The BROA approach is richenough to capture the complexities of forestvaluation under carbon pricing, while remainingtractable enough to find practical application. Itshould be useful to academics interested in valuingcomplex real options, as well as to academics, practitioners and policymakers interested inevaluating the impact of carbon pricing on forestryand forest land use.- Shop: buecher

Outskirts: Living Life on the Edge of the Green Belt , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 584min
Forgotten edgelands, furious battles, suburban mysteries - discover the secret history of our green belts.Green belts are part of the landscape and psyche of post-war Britain, but have led to conflicts at every level of society - between conservationists and developers, town and country, politicians and people, nimbys and the forces of progress.Growing up on 'the last road in London' on an estate at the edge of the woods, John Grindrod had a childhood that mirrored these tensions. His family, too, seemed caught between two worlds: his wheelchair-bound mother and soft hearted father had moved from the inner city and had trouble adjusting. His warring brothers struggled too: there was the sporty one who loved the outdoors, and the agoraphobic who hated it. And then there was John, an unremarkable boy on the edge of it all discovering something magical. In the green belts John discovers strange hidden places, from nuclear bunkers to buried landfill sites, and along the way meets planners, protestors, foresters and residents whose passions for and against the green belt tell a fascinating tale of Britain today. The first book to tell the story of Britain's green belts, Outskirts is at once a fascinating social history, a stirring evocation of the natural world, and a poignant tale of growing up in a place, and within a family, like no other." ungekürzt. The Informed Gardener , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 242min
In this introduction to sustainable landscaping practices, Linda Chalker-Scott addresses the most common myths and misconceptions that plague home gardeners and horticultural professionals. Chalker-Scott offers invaluable advice to gardeners who have wondered: Are native plants the best choice for sustainable landscaping? Should you avoid disturbing the root ball when planting? Are organic products better or safer than synthetic ones? What is the best way to control weeds - fabric or mulch? Does giving vitamins to plants stimulate growth? Are compost teas effective in controlling diseases? When is the best time to water in hot weather? If you pay more, do you get a higher-quality plant? How can you differentiate good advice from bad advice? The answers may surprise you. In her more than 20 years as a university researcher and educator in the field of plant physiology, Linda Chalker-Scott has discovered a number of so-called truths that originated in traditional agriculture that have been applied to urban horticulture, in many cases damaging both plant and environmental health. The Informed Gardener is based on basic and applied research from university faculty and landscape professionals, originally published in peer-reviewed journals. After reading this book, you will: understand your landscape or garden plants as components of a living system; save time (by not overdoing soil preparation, weeding, pruning, staking, or replacing plants that have died before their time); save money (by avoiding worthless or harmful garden products, and producing healthier, longer-lived plants); reduce use of fertilizers and pesticides; and assess marketing claims objectively. This book will be of interest to landscape architects, nursery and landscape professionals, urban foresters, arborists, certified professional horticulturists, and home gardeners. Linda Chalker-Scott is an extension urban horticulturist and associate professor at Puy ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Beth Richmond.
