Rimske su legije odavno pokorile Judeju i okolne zemlje, a Zidovi ocekuju poslanika i istovremeno snuju pobunu protiv svojega kralja izdajnika i rimskih osvajaca.

The Master's Handiwork is a mentoring book. Perhaps the word discipleship would be more descriptive. God designed the older, more experienced saints to instruct the younger ones in order to assure that new ground could be covered quickly, and old mistakes would not need to be repeated. Dr. Klick shares a variety of Biblical insights gained from over 30 years in the ministry with clarity and a dash of humor. Having been married for over 37 years and having 10 grandchildren, Dr. Klick believes experience is not always gained through victory but also is achieved through our failures, and both have been included in this book. One purpose of mentoring or discipling is to challenge the thought processes of those who are following us (or, in the case of a book, reading our words). We all think, and we all act out those thoughts minute by minute as we walk through our days, but do our thoughts really line up with the scripture? In The Master's Handiwork, chapters are presented to help expand, renew, and refine our thought processes. Saturated with biblical references, this book lays a multifaceted foundation to build a strong faith and life for Christ. From how to read and understand scripture properly to wondering if Paul wore a toga, you will encounter many thought-provoking ideas and challenging concepts. As you read The Master's Handiwork, you will be drawn closer to Christ. The Christian life is a journey full of pleasure and pain, but God is our Father and the Master Craftsman, and he does not make junk or mistakes. We are neither; we are his handiwork, and God is not finished with us yet; we are works in progress that he will complete! ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Charlie Glaize. “Rome was a poem pressed into service as a city”. In that short line, Anatole Broyard, a 20th century American writer, compactly captures the timeless and enchanting beauty that resides within the Eternal City of Rome. The ambitious and fearless emperors that built the legendary Roman Empire from scratch, the broad-shouldered and bronzed gladiators with their iconic plume helmets and glinting swords, and elaborate parties attended by toga-wearing Romans fueled by alcohol, violence, orgies, and other godless acts all paint a picture of Roman life. Indeed, many people are well-versed with these unique scenes of Roman history, but few are familiar with the equally riveting years preceding the dawn of the Roman Republic, and even less people are acquainted with the fabled Seven Hills sitting east of the Tiber River - the core geographical components of Rome, and the very foundations that the Eternal City was built on.The study of Roman history is usually divided into three distinct phases: the time of the Kings, the Roman Republic, and the Roman Empire. Roman tradition dated the foundation of Rome to 753 BCE, and this first period of its history ended with the overthrow of King Tarquinius Superbus in 510 BCE. There is very little remaining historical evidence pertaining to this period, so much of what is known is at best legend, possibly based on varying degrees of historical fact. The period of the Roman Republic, generally dated from 509-27 BCE, is an entirely different matter. There is significant documentation that enables historians to analyze how Rome cemented its position within the Italian peninsula before pushing ever outward to create the new provinces that formed the core of the vast Roman Empire in the third phase that came to dominate all of Europe for so long. The period of the Republic saw those with the emerging powers having to grapple with new political situations, the administration of a diverse domain while contending with polit ungekürzt. Speaking of the Greek priests of Korfou, the erudite bishop of Lincoln, lately deceased, has remarked, “There is something very picturesque in the appearance of these persons, with their black caps resembling the modius seen on the heads of the ancient statues of Serapis and Osiris, their long beards and pale complexions, and their black flowing cloak, - a relic, no doubt, of the old ecclesiastical garment of which Tertullian wrote.” These remarks are illustrated by an engraving on the same page. He thus identifies the pallium with the gown of Justin Martyr; nor can there be any reasonable doubt that the pallium of the West was the counterpart of the Greek, which St. Paul left at Troas. Endearing associations have clung to it from the mention of this apostolic cloak in Holy Scripture. It doubtless influenced Justin in giving his philosopher’s gown a new significance, and the modern Greeks insist that such was the apparel of the apostles. The seamless robe of Christ himself belongs to him only. Tertullian rarely acknowledges his obligations to other doctors; but Justin’s example and St. Paul’s cloak must have been in his thoughts when he rejected the toga and claimed the pallium as a Christian’s attire. Our Edinburgh translator has assumed that it was the “ascetics’ mantle”, and perhaps it was. Our author wished to make all Christians ascetics, like himself, and hence his enthusiasm for a distinctive costume. Anyhow, “the Doctor’s gown” of the English universities, which is also used among the Gallicans and in Savoy, is one of the most ancient as well as dignified vestments in ecclesiastical use; and for the propheticor preaching function of the clergy it is singularly appropriate. “The pallium”, says a learned author, the late Wharton B. Marriott of Oxford, “in the Greek, is the outer garment or wrapper worn occasionally by persons of all conditions of life". ungekürzt. Language: English. Jay Sarno built two path-breaking Las Vegas casinos, Caesars Palace (1966) and Circus Circus (1968), and planned but did not build a third, the Grandissimo, which would have started the mega-resort era a decade before Steve Wynn built The Mirage. As mobsters and accountants battled for the soul of the last American frontier town, Las Vegas had endless possibilities - if you didn't mind high stakes and stiff odds. Sarno invented the modern Las Vegas casino, but he was part of a dying breed - a back-pocket entrepreneur who'd parlayed a jones for action and a few Teamster loans into a life as a Vegas casino owner. For all of his accomplishments, his empire didn't last. Sarno sold out of Caesars Palace shortly after it opened - partially to get away from the bookies and gangsters who'd taken over the casino - and he was forced to relinquish control of Circus Circus when the federal government indicted him on charges of offering the largest bribe in IRS history - a bribe he freely admitted paying, on the advice of his attorney, Oscar Goodman. Though he ultimately walked out of court a free man, he never got Circus back. And though he guessed the formula that would open up Las Vegas to millions in the 1990s with the design of the Grandissimo, but he wasn't able to secure the financing for the casino, and when he died in 1984, it remained only a frustrating dream. Sarno's casinos - and his ideas about how to build casinos - created the template for Las Vegas today. Before him, Las Vegas meant dealers in string ties and bland, functional architecture. He taught the city how to dress up its hotels in fantasy, putting toga dresses on cocktail waitresses and making sure that even the stationery carried through with the theme. He saw Las Vegas as a place where ordinary people could leave their ordinary lives and have extraordinary adventures. And that remains the template for Las Vegas today. ungekürzt. Language: English. Rome was a poem pressed into service as a city. In that short line, Anatole Broyard, a 20th century American writer, compactly captures the timeless and enchanting beauty that resides within the Eternal City of Rome. This tourist destination is often one of the highest ranked on bucket lists, for how could one not want to experience its marvelous ruins, mirror-like rivers, and spectacular stretches of aqueducts firsthand? As one sips on fine Italian wine on a terrace overlooking the grand remnants of the Colosseum, one can practically hear the roars of the battling gladiators, and the raucous applause of the spectators. And as one strolls through the coarse, yet quaint, cobblestone streets, one can almost hear the galloping horses, and screeching wheels of chariots in the distance, and even feel the brush of the breeze as they charge past. It is difficult not to fall in love with a city so effortlessly nostalgic, it verges on utopian. The ambitious and fearless emperors that built the legendary Roman Empire from scratch, the broad-shouldered, and bronzed gladiators, with their iconic plume helmets and glinting swords, and elaborate parties attended by toga-wearing Romans fueled by alcohol, violence, orgies, and other godless acts, all paint a picture of Roman life. At the Circus Maximus, the guttural cheers of the spectators reverberated across the enormous open space, but their cries could hardly be heard over the rumble of the ground. On the ellipse-shaped track, 5 charioteers would skew their bodies and steer their magnificent vehicles around the curves. Gusts of sand and dirt flew up from the whizzing wheels and encircled the pounding hooves of the stunning stallions. Distracted personnel and guards dragging their feet, were considered fair game. As one chariot careened to the side, preparing to collide with another chariot, a row of guards might have to try to duck out of the way in the nick of time. Some would be trampled by hooves. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Scott Clem. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/094133/bk_acx0_094133_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.

Toga…Everyone has a past. It's a fact of life, one that is unavoidable. But I left mine behind eight years ago when I joined Satan's Legacy MC. I also left her behind. It was for the best because forbidden love doesn't even begin to cover what was starting to develop between us. Walking away from my mother was the hardest thing I've ever done, but walking away from her blackened my soul. Unfortunately, time and distance doesn't mean a damn thing when she shows back up, a demon taunting me with what I can't have. Or can I? In eight years, circumstances change. What was once impossible becomes possible. And with her life in danger, I can't stay away because I'm the only one who knows her enemy, the only one who can ensure she survives to live another day. Fallon…I fell in love the moment I first laid eyes on him. Unfortunately, that was when I was sixteen and at the wedding of my father to his mother. There was something about him that called out to me, that made me believe that life would be better with him in it. Then he left and life got infinitely worse. Fast forward eight years, and I'm in the ICU, fighting for my life because my father became even more abusive after the divorce, blaming me for all the problems in his marriage. When the man I once loved but now despise shows up, I have no choice but to spill my guts to him. Because he's the only person I have left in the world, like it or not. Will he do everything he promises and save me, give me a better life? Or will he walk away again, leaving me to pick up the pieces and likely die trying?
