Laughing Humans , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 161min
Laughing Humans are the descendants of a colonizing ship that crashed on the planet Bicanthra III 500 years earlier, and have been raised as animals in a zoo by the indigenous sentient beings of that planet. Their speech has atrophied because of their severe religious belief (one only speaks to praise god), but they laugh, giving rise to their name. They are a strongly female-dominated clan. Hunter Rogue has lived her entire life providing food for her troupe of two dozen Laughing Humans and trying to escape from the zoo where she and her troupe are exhibits. She hates being confined by taboos or walls. She loves to explore and try new things. She longs to be allowed to speak like the Bicanthran gods, to be mated despite her troupe's strict laws on monogamy, and to teach her troupe that they are no longer zoo specimens. Captain Angus McFarlan is one year away from retiring from a military career which confined him with its rules and regulations. In order to keep him from ruining his career in its twilight hours, he is given the dubious honor of rescuing and repatriating the troupe of Laughing Humans. Angus is fierce, dominant, and always in control, until he meets Hunter. Hunter and Angus must lead the Laughing Humans into an existence delightfully different from their previous life. Speech, sex, and equality are all new concepts to which they must adapt. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Gary Roelofs. Hidden Heritage: A Lottie Albright Mystery, Book 3 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 549min
After a human corpse from a gruesome murder is discovered at the Carlton County Feed Yard, Sheriff Sam Abbott, Undersheriff Lottie Albright, and her deputy husband know their resources are going to be overstretched. Still, none of their team or the neighboring law enforcement in western Kansas welcomes the idea of a regional crime center. KBI agent Dimon suggests the murder may not be a simple local affair. Unconvinced, Lottie - still director of the historical society - calls for stories from families whose ancestors were part of groups colonizing Kansas, hoping to uncover information for the investigation. Doña Francesca Diaz, the elderly head of one such clan, arrives at the society with her great-granddaughter. It turns out that the murder victim was Francesca's great-grandson Victor. Francisca insists she knows why Victor was killed, claiming to have ancient documents that can clarify everything. At Doña Francesca's invitation, Lottie visits the Diaz property and gets several surprises. In a drought-ridden area, the land is lush; there are hints of a mysterious family treasure; and Francesca, a fabled curandera with terribly damaged hands, seeks an heir for her herbal knowledge and folk medicine skills. With Victor dead and his sister vowing to become a nun, Francesca has selected Lottie. Reluctant yet fascinated, Lottie agrees. And that's just the first step into generations of a family history fraught with tension and emotional distress. Will it also hold the key to murder and other terrible crimes? ungekürzt. Move
A compelling look at the powerful global forces that will cause billions of us to move geographically over the next thirty years, ushering in an era of radical change. In the 60,000 years since people began colonizing the continents, a recurring feature of human civilization has been mobility. History is brimming with seismic global events-pandemics and plagues, wars and genocides. Each time, after a great catastrophe, our instincts to seek physical security compel us to move. The map of humanity isn't settled-not now, not ever. The last century provides continuing evidence that we are in the most dangerous experiment humanity has ever experienced. As climates change, pandemics arrive, and economies rise and fall, which areas will people flee from and where will they resettle? Which countries will accept or reject them? How will the billions alive today, and the billions coming, create the next map of human geography? Now, global strategy advisor Parag Khanna expands on his TED Talks about mapping the future with this illuminating and authoritative vision of the next civilization. He explains how the past two major shifts-one agricultural and the other industrial-have led us to the cusp of the next one, which must be mobile and sustainable. Across the world, we must move people to where the resources are, and technologies to the people who need them. Igniting this accelerating mobility are five primary forces: demographic imbalances (young people flocking to new regions); economic dislocation (flight to where the jobs are); technological disruption; political upheaval; and climate change.Move is a fascinating and enlightening look at the "climate" of migration, revealing the deep trends that will shape the grand economic and security scenarios of the future. Most importantly, it offers us a chance to identify our location on humanity's ever-changing map.- Shop: buecher

Sacred Gifts, Profane Pleasures: A History of Tobacco and Chocolate in the Atlantic World , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 741min
Before Columbus's fateful voyage in 1492, no European had ever seen, much less tasted, tobacco or chocolate. Initially dismissed as dry leaves and an odd Indian drink, these two commodities came to conquer Europe on a scale unsurpassed by any other American resource or product. A fascinating story of contact, exploration, and exchange in the Atlantic world, Sacred Gifts, Profane Pleasures traces the ways in which these two goods of the Americas both changed and were changed by Europe. Focusing on the Spanish Empire, Marcy Norton investigates how tobacco and chocolate became material and symbolic links to the pre-Hispanic past for colonized Indians and colonizing Europeans alike. Botanical ambassadors of the American continent, they also profoundly affected Europe. Tobacco, once condemned as proof of Indian diabolism, became the constant companion of clergymen and the single largest source of state revenue in Spain. Before coffee or tea became popular in Europe, chocolate was the drink that energized the fatigued and uplifted the depressed. However, no one could quite forget the pagan past of tobacco and chocolate, despite their apparent Europeanization: physicians relied on Mesoamerican medical systems for their understanding of tobacco; theologians looked to Aztec precedent to decide whether chocolate drinking violated Lenten fasts. The struggle of scientists, theologians, and aficionados alike to reconcile notions of European superiority with the fact of American influence shaped key modern developments ranging from natural history to secularization. Norton considers the material, social, and cultural interaction between Europe and the Americas with historical depth and insight that goes beyond the portrayal of Columbian exchange simply as a matter of exploitation, infection, and conquest. ungekürzt. Our Occulted History: Do the Global Elite Conceal Ancient Aliens? , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 714min
We are not alone. And we never have been.... For years we've been taught that human progress has been a long, slow climb from the primordial ooze to hunter-gatherers to empires. But what if that's only part of the story? Best-selling author and legendary conspiracy researcher Jim Marrs, who has investigated the recent financial crisis, the JFK assassination, and the national socialist takeover of America, now takes on his biggest subject: the history of mankind. Offering mind-blowing information that will radically alter the way we think about the world and our place in it, Marrs goes beyond the revelations of his classic Alien Agenda, interweaving science and authentic archaeological finds with provocative speculation to show how human civilization may have originated with nonhumans who visited Earth eons ago...and may still be here today. Our Occulted History overturns conventional knowledge and beliefs, presenting compelling evidence that the Earth once hosted prehistoric civilizations using technologies that very well may have surpassed our own. Sound unbelievable? Just a few hundred years ago, so was the concept that the Earth revolved around the sun. Marrs sifts through the historical, scientific, and cultural record, showing how numerous ancient texts and tablets tell of visitors from the stars colonizing the earth. From the flying vimanas of the Hindu Vedic literature and the flying shields reported by the Romans to the mysterious airships of the 1800s and the UFOs of today, he argues that someone other than us is still present on this planet. But are these visitors simply observers - or do they play a much more active and controlling role? Jim Marrs raises this shocking question and more in the provocative and persuasive Our Occulted History. The truth is out there...and in here. ungekürzt. Language: English. Pen and Ink Witchcraft: Treaties and Treaty Making in American Indian History , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 846min
Indian peoples made some 400 treaties with the United States between the American Revolution and 1871, when Congress prohibited them. They signed nine treaties with the Confederacy, as well as countless others over the centuries with Spain, France, Britain, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, Canada, and even Russia, not to mention individual colonies and states. In retrospect, the treaties seem like well-ordered steps on the path of dispossession and empire. The reality was far more complicated. In Pen and Ink Witchcraft, eminent Native American historian Colin G. Calloway narrates the history of diplomacy between North American Indians and their imperial adversaries, particularly the United States. Treaties were cultural encounters and human dramas, each with its cast of characters and conflicting agendas. Many treaties, he notes, involved not land, but trade, friendship, and the resolution of disputes. Far from all being one-sided, they were negotiated on the Indians' cultural and geographical terrain. When the Mohawks welcomed Dutch traders in the early 1600s, they sealed a treaty of friendship with a wampum belt with parallel rows of purple beads, representing the parties traveling side-by-side, as equals, on the same river. But the American republic increasingly turned treaty-making into a tool of encroachment on Indian territory. Calloway traces this process by focusing on the treaties of Fort Stanwix (1768), New Echota (1835), and Medicine Lodge (1867), in addition to such events as the Peace of Montreal in 1701 and the treaties of Fort Laramie (1851 and 1868). His analysis demonstrates that native leaders were hardly dupes. The records of negotiations, he writes, show that "Indians frequently matched their colonizing counterparts in diplomatic savvy and tried, literally, to hold their ground." Each treaty has its own story, Calloway writes, but together they tell a rich and complicated tale of moments in American history when civilizat ungekürzt. Language: English. The Quotis Gene: The Link , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 596min
It was a perfect time, a cooling down period in one of many of Earth’s many cycles. Soft plains of rolling grass lands and towering mountains. It would be five hundred thousand years before man rose from the muck and walked on it. It was then a space faring race called the Tim discovered Earth and named it Dora. A colony was built here and it was part of the Tim federation of Planets. The federation was still young and growing. Only a thousand years had passed since War lords were fighting on the planet Matave over who would control a Gene. A Gene flowed through the Tim and was a special part of their history, civilization, and religion. It let them store and save information in a different way than modern day humans. The Gene led Tim into the stars in just a thousand years, colonizing over a hundred planets across the Milky Way Galaxy. Twenty years after Dora was colonized, it fell victim to the wimps of the Galaxy. The colony was deleted off the face of the planet. Leaving behind the most important thing one race could give another. The Quotis Gene has survived in our environment and it’s in the human gene pool. It is in every human on the planet Earth. Scientist called it junk DNA, a recessive Gene used in early mankind. They are right, but they are very wrong. Now modern man will use it. In a billion to one chance, two compatible genes have connected to form the first Quotis on Earth. Like the Tim before them, it will give them the stars. The story begins in the doors of a Chicago hospital where Willow Morgan bumps into Adam Stark. In that billion in one moment, two compatible Quotis genes have found each other. Two complete strangers from two completely different worlds, have unknowingly come together to form the first Quotis on Earth. Willow Morgan a focused brilliant Nebraska farm girl is working on her PHD at the University of Chicago. Her whole life has been centered on being accepted to the Astronaut training program ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Mapuana Makia.
