    "Let's Start Again" ist das sechste Soloalbum des Singer/Songwriters Bap Kennedy. Der Nordire Kennedy war vorher Frontmann der Belfaster Kultrockband Energy Orchard, mit der er insgesamt fünf Alben veröffentlicht hat. Viele seiner bisherigen Alben sind zwischen den USA und UK entstanden, doch dieses Mal wollte er nordirische Musiker in seiner alten Heimat zusammen bringen, um "Let's Start Again" aufzunehmen. Zu den Locals gehört in erster Reihe Baps Ehefrau Brenda Kennedy, die schon als Bassistin und Sängerin in der Liveband von Bap unterwegs war, sowie der Drummer Rabb Bennett und der virtuose Gitarrist Gordy McAllister. Nach dem melancholisch-keltischen Album "The Sailor's Revenge" findet man auf dem neuen Album viel mehr optimistische, von rootsy Americana beeinflusste Songs. Der Country-Roots Stil des neuen Albums wurde sicherlich auch von Kennedys Co-Produzenten mit beinflusst, der schon während der ersten Zusammenarbeit in den 80er Jahren Kennedys besondere Countrymusic-Neigungen entdeckt hatte.

    Digitally remastered edition including 16-page full color booklet with 3,500 word essay, enhanced artwork, new photos and new interviews. When it comes to extracurricular collaborations and spin-off bands, they are, more often than not, prone to malfunction or disappointment, the sum of the parts normally being far inferior to the main attraction. In the case of Shaw Blades this wasn't the case as the partnership produced a surprisingly attractive musical communion, with enough of their familiar styles mixing with a fresh approach. The collaborators in question here are guitarist and vocalist Tommy Shaw, previously a lynch pin with multiplatinum pomp rockers Styx, and bassist Jack Blades who infiltrated the charts as a member of melodic rockers Night Ranger. The two initially worked together (alongside Ted Nugent) as members of the platinum selling hard rock band Damn Yankees, before embarking, during a lull in DY activities, as the high-profile Shaw Blades partnership. It was, in many respects, a marriage made in heaven, the two musicians being uniquely compatible and they produced songs of a timeless and compelling nature. Enlisting the help of producer Don Gehman (best known for his work with John Cougar Mellancamp) and issued in 1995, the duo set about constructing a record that was less hard rock and more rootsy, inviting comparisons to similarly less 'full-on' acts, such as the Spin Doctors, Riverdogs and Crowded House. Above all, the album was a terrific vehicle for the duo's magnificent, mostly acoustic driven, songwriting abilities, including the stand out tracks: 'My Hallucination', 'I Stumble In' and 'I'll Always Be With You'. Sadly, the album flew in the face of the prevailing musical climate of grunge leaving them undeservedly high and dry.

    Located in the Southeastern United States, The Passing Tones create a blues-based rock 'n roll type of sound. This rootsy music holds true to traditional sensibilities, while continuing to draw from a wide variety of musical influence. The Passing Tones are a trio comprised of vocalist and guitar player Robby, bassist Blakely, and drummer Count Chris. These three gentlemen grew up childhood friends, playing music with one another throughout the years. Time has allowed them to continue playing together, forming the sounds of The Passing Tones.

    We came into Squid Hell recording studio and the engineer said there was a death-cry early in the morning. His cat had died. We got to work. Four days, four songs - recorded, mixed, and mastered. On the fourth day, when the last notes were mixed, John, who is the brilliant fix-it-man and microphone inventor, came into the control room and started to cry. His cat had just passed. It is fitting that Eric Schmider chose to change the name of the band from Mollycoddle, (which you will find here on CDbaby) to The One Smith. It must mean something that the EP session was book-ended by the deaths of two very cool cats. The music is taking a new route with simple structures and horns while still focusing on melodies and simple lyrics about how we all work in the world, while we are here at least. If you want songs about what happens next, I have some friends on CDbaby that write songs about death. The tunes on this EP are a taste of what's to come. We have horns, a slightly melancholic vocal timbre boosted with some harmony, and a solid band. The drums sit back ever so small giving even the rootsy tune, Watering the Plants, a touch of groove that comes from as drummer who used to only play funk. Like most of what you find here, this is a DIY project. Stay tuned for the complete record due out in the summer of 2010. The tunes will be more expansive and diverse. Perhaps a touch of Pink Floyd mixed with some Kings of Convenience. Who knows.

    Nobody Out There
    Southie is Adelaide musician Tim Lucas, whose unique brand of folk pop combines acoustic guitar, piano and drum sequences, drawing on such influences as Elliott Smith, Sufjan Stevens and The Postal Service. This marks Southie's debut with a collection of truly varied folk pop songs. The edgy acoustic opener Wait Here connects two pulsing hearts, one earnest yet unsure, the other slow and steady, then spills into the desperate anthem of Silver Dimes, which strikes like a fist pounding against your chest. There is brightness in Hey Love and Your Arms (sweetened by the voice of Illicit Eve's Emily Smart), darker moments in songs like Dollars & Diamonds and Be Done (a song that echoes like a raw, rootsy death-rattle) while the energetic rock of Made of Metal climaxes in an unforgettable rallying of trumpets, voices, drums and guitars. The EP closes out with the eponymous track Nobody Out There, a soft, lonely call into the vast and empty night, that swells briefly to a powerful chant, before receding into the static hum of distant voices.

    The songs on LOVETRAIN's long awaited followup range from power pop anthems to acoustic ballads. The album began as an all acoustic demo project with singer/composer Dan Lilley and lead guitarist Mike 'Scatman' Sullivan booking time to flesh out a handful of Lilley's compositions. The session's five songs came out sounding so good that it wasn't long before bassist, John Amitrano and drummer, Phil Hicks were called in to begin recording the next full length LOVETRAIN CD. Further sessions were booked with drums and bass added to the already semi-completed tracks. This tricky maneuver successfully filled out the sound on those first five tracks and the album began to take shape. Another year of regular weekend sessions with the band produced the remaining six tracks which make up 'Destination'. Local legend and friend, John Juxo, is featured on keyboards on more than half of the album. Sadly, Phil Hicks, the band's drummer died in January of 2010 from cancer. The loss of their friend and band mate was devastating to the remaining 3 members. The four guys had been playing together as LOVETRAIN for well over a decade. The bond they formed in those years of making music and hanging out together as brothers is indescribable. The new CD is dedicated to Phil Hicks and actually opens with his voice counting out the beat to the first song. The long desolate highway leading into the great beyond of endless sky depicted on the CD's cover takes on special significance in light of the tragic circumstances in which the disc was released. So does the title, 'Destination'. The word comes from the album's second track, a fairly joyful song about surviving the nightlife and coming home from a typical weekend gig. It also seems to suggest a deeper meaning having to do with the eventual destiny of us all. The sound of the album is rootsy classic rock. The songs will appeal to people who love smart lyrics, catchy melodies, and tasteful playing.

    Nathan Wade & the Dark Pioneers are Seattle's purveyors of apocalyptic Americana, honing their rootsy, fire & brimstone-laden tunes deep inside an abandoned fall-out shelter. Sometimes you have to consider the worst-case-scenario in order to fully appreciate all there is to lose in this world, and whether it's religious rapture or environmental disaster that Nathan Wade's lyrics foretell, it's with dark humor and a strong sense of song craft that the band elevates their music above the doom & gloom and into the light. --- For 'The Gospel Of Rust,' the band once again teamed up with producer Brad Zeffren (Star Anna & The Laughing Dogs, Kristen Ward, Hurricane Chaser), who not only recorded and mixed the album, but helped them wrestle their ambitious first long-player to the ground. The diverse, technicolor wasteland hinted at on their debut EP, 'The Chroma Session,' comes to explosive fruition here, so full of shades and moods that the album clips along like an apocalyptic mix tape. In the lost gospel according to Nathan Wade & the Dark Pioneers, Cormac McCarthy, Mad Max, and Led Zeppelin scarcely make for strange bedfellows, and their hymns are filled to the treacherous brim with lacerating blues pounders like Lake Of Fire and I Am The Rust, the cinematic country-noir of This World (Already Over) and Weeds Grow Around, and driving, doomsday rockers like Gotta Get Right and Golgotha Drone. If Armageddon requires a soundtrack such as this, we're in for one hell of a finale.
